Ok, so, here are a few photos of my X3 Magneto helmet that I wore on Halloween. I mostly made it (and it's display stand) so that I could have it on my shelf in my room, but it doubled as a costume prop. Anyway, here is a shot of the helmet on the stand and, believe it or not, on my head--

Unfinished, next to Dr. Doom from Halloween '05..

The rounded helmet piece was made from layered paper mache', then covered with sanded wood putty. The front face piece is made from layered pieces of that notebook/drawing pad backing, dipped in hot water and warped over the helmet so it wouldnt develop cracks, bends, or creases. The back piece also had some layered trimming, but its not quite as exciting. The whole thing was painted using a mixture of three acrylic paints, then sprayed with a fancy varnish for a metallic effect. The inside was lined with duct-tape and sprayed black, though I never got around to making an actual fabric liner and probably won't since its just for display, really.

So yeah, that's the helmet! It's extremely durable, too. I dropped it once, and had some lady punch me in the head while wearing it at work on Halloween. Talk about fashion and function..

That looks fantastic! I will have to try that paper mache and sanded wood putty technique. Well done!
