If you could date a Marvel character....

Silver Shocker

What with this page running the back of the Marvel comics right now, I thought it would be fun to start a thread on the subject and see what answers everyone gives.  Like Marc Sumerac, I'm hoping this doesn't get into "creepy" teritory, but I'm hoping that goes without saying.

If I was the equivlent age, (I'm not, but probably not by nearly as much as other comic readers) I'd want to date Cassie Lang/Stature. When reading the first arc of Young Avengers, I was calling her "the sweetheart of the marvel universe". I couldn't tell you why I particularly like her as a character, but I think she's cute (and I rarely have a thing for blondes), and I find YA artist Jim Cheung (who I love, BUT will be the first to admit draws a lot of his characters with the same faces), makes her look good without using the two techniques so many artists these days use: ridiculous body, ridiculous costume.

Selene. I would totally be a thrall to her.
Emma Frost- C'mon, she's hot.
Umar- What she did to the Hulk, Mmmm.... Hulk tired!
Rachel Summers- Hey, I have a thing for girls with issues.

Amanda Waller.

What?

That's a DC character. Not to mention that opens a whole 'nother can of beans. Though they do say power is sexy and the Wall is tough as nails. She scared Batman. Nuff Said.

You should have read the responces in the comics. One creator said Squirrel Girl, one said Mystique for the same reason everyone who ever picks Mystique would say, one said "Anyone drawn by Frank Cho" (clearly, Kyle & Yost are pigs in addition to bad comic writers), and Bendis said Luke Cage, who is used in comics these days because he wrote him so much! One person said Dead Girl (from X-Statix) and was counting on them getting struck dead with a bus on thier date.

With all due respect. I think those are terrible choices. For one thing, it's "date" not "have a roll in the hay with". I don't know who Umar is, but both the Black Queen and White Queen would do terrible things for your self-esteem and/or corrupt you as a person. Not to mention, anyone who wore those costumes in public would probably be arrested for soliciting or public indecency.

I like Rachel, at least when she's not wearing that terrible bondage costume and that bad short hair she used to have. And I think her current cleavage-oriented costume is unfortunate, and doesn't exactly scream "integrity".

Why do you want to get folks' opinions if you're only going to criticize them?  They are, after all, these folks opinions - if I want to date Aunt May, it is, by definition, not a terrible choice, because it is my choice to make.   ;)

Quoted for truthiness. :P

Also, can you stop bringing up your dislike of Kyle & Yost writing ability? I know you don't like it, but this clearly wasn't a thread to once again bring it up in. It doesn't bother me, but really, kinda unnecessary in the long run. It'd be like someone criticizing your talent every chance they got or something.

On topic...

I'd date...none of them! Comic characters are all sorts of crazies! Also, they seem to go through so many life altering and sometimes life ending situations and that'd so kill the relationship progression. I mean for seriously! :P

You're right. I should have phrased myself in a less offensive manner. What I meant was that I disagreed rather than it was a bad choice. A misunderstanding caused by my poor choice of words and I apoligize for that.

There's a phrase I never thought I'd hear on this this forum.

It was a coincidence that they were among the creators in the survey. If it was a creator I liked, I'd comment on liking thier work but not thier comment. And I stated an opinion on thier work, it's not a personal attack. I imagine if it was Chuck Austin, Liefeld, or Bendis noone would be offended.  Nonetheless, you're right, I could have been a lot less petty.

A big appeal of comics is that they are escapism. It's fun to lose yourself in a make-beleive setting and comic books are more mature than the fairy tales young children re told. Why else would fans want to show thier devotion by going to conventions in costumes, or having Star Wars weddings? Being these characters probably wouldn't be fun, but you don't have to live every moment of thier lives to make believe. That's the best explanation I can give without going into further detail.

On a related idea there's a hero dating quiz here:
http://www.comicvine.com/dating/

As for me, well I got Kitty Pryde pretty consistently on that quiz, but honestly I have no idea. If your just going for looks than a shapeshifter like Mystique is ideal, there are other appeals, like it'd be cool to date a flyer or a teleporter. Then you could pick for compatibility too.

Plus, Aunt May is a major hottie!  And I'm getting closer to her age than the teen heroines of these days. <sigh>

DMenacer

I just tried that quiz and I got the Scarlet Witch., lucky me

I got scarlet witch, followed by Lyja and She Hulk. I guess the quiz decided I'm really into those green skinned girls...

Mr. Hamrick

that quiz thing gave me a choice of Aurora, Lyja, and X-23.

oh the choices.

Personally, I wouldn't mind Rachel Summers.

The Hitman

Quiz told me Lois Lane. Heh, kind of a nag, but I'll take it.

Honestly, though... it's a toss up between She- Hulk and Ms. Marvel. Yep... uh, yep.

AncientSpirit

That quiz was fun.   All three that I wound up with came within tenths of each other -- and two were the ones who actually came to mind before I took the quiz.

Mary Jane Watson (64.6% match)
Lyja  (64%)
Lois Lane (63.4%)

Interesting, I was just writing about Lois and Mary Jane moments earlier in a different thread.   (But the ones who came to mind for me were Lyja (second) -  the ultimate fantasy date who could role play to be any woman you ever dreamed of ... and Lois Lane (first) ... smart, sexy, professional and "real" (and best personified IMHO by Teri Hatcher from Lois and Clark).

murs47

I got Aunt May....followed by Lois Lane. Weird.

thanoson

Hmm... I got Aurora, Psylocke and She Hulk. Not too bad.

That quiz was fun.

I agree.  ^_^  I got:

Kitty Pryde 62.2%
Lois Lane   62.2%
Moira Mactaggert 59.8%

Not bad..

Volsung

I got Mary Jane 63.4%, Wonder Woman 61.6% and Black Canary 61% ^^

Spe-Dog

Rick Battlemage

Araña (67%)
Young and spunky, Araña will give you a fun time at the movies or playing mini-golf. Make sure you don't cross her or she'll knock you out.

Kitty Pryde (67%)
Invisible Woman (64.6%)

Heh I hadn't considered Araña, I think it's a pretty good choice.

thalaw2

I would like to keep company with Photon/Mar-vel...whatever her name is now.  She's always been one of my favorites since I was really really young.

But....

The test says:

Lyla 69.4%
X-23 65.8%
Aurora 65.2%

That scares me.

AncientSpirit

Hmmm.  Lyja comes up an awful lot.  Wonder if that's because she can be anybody?

Pyroclasm

For a date, I would pick She-Hulk.  She's smart, funny and beautiful.

The quiz gave me
Black Canary 67.6%
Scarlett Witch 67%
She-Hulk 64.6%

Carravaggio

I would write me into the marvel universe then date me, cos i have such high standards

By the way that quiz got me Aurora, even tho i specified blondes and redheads, and DIDN'T want a foreign chick.
So yeah, I guess i'm stuck with me

Thunder

The quiz gave me the same charater I would have picked: She Hulk

apfarmakis

I got Psylocke (67%), Ms Marvel (65%) and She-Hulk (62%). I can live with that.

Verfall

X-23 (65.8)
Lyja (65.2)
Kitty Pryde (64)

Now here's the predicament...isn't X-23 underage?
