I downloaded a Cap and an Apollo, both just stand there, they both but their limbs stay still.

Is there a way to get them active? I am a noob so sorry if I am just being stupid.

USAgent

It sounds like the meshes you have dont have any keyframes.  There should be read me files with those characters you downloaded which will tell you what keyframes are needed for those meshes.

I put "vx" on all meshes I work on to help people tell one mesh from another. With all the many meshes that are being made of characters, multiples are bound to occur. Included are weapon nodes: mouth and eyes and psyche.

Character History/Bio:
Apollo was created as a special operative of Stormwatch by Henry Bendix...... known as Weatherman one. After being sent to die on his first mission by Bendix.. Apollo went into hiding along with the only other member of his unit to survive.....the Midnighter. Drafted into the Authority by Jenny Sparks, Apollo has proven to be one of the most powerful beings on Earth, dubbed a "Majestic" class superhuman. His powers are relative to the amount of solar energy he has stored, at maximum power limit, He's pretty close to the status of "Superman".

I am new at this but I tried putting superman's keyframes into Apollos and nothing happens. Is there a way to make that work?

It also has happened with my Nexus, what file needs to be put in him?

Previsionary

try not to double post unless it's really needed.

Updated style VX mesh FFvt3R Specific Meshes

Keyframes are needed to make the mesh work. Vertex meshes uses specialized keyframes that can be gotten off of NPI unless stated otherwise (IE: specialized mesh or it has a little note that says it has specific keyframes. You'll have to pay attention to that when downloading since HQ/Vert took the time to point them out.)

Meshes do not accept all types of keyframes (IE: they're not universal), so readmes point to specific keyframes or a specific set. So, just to teach ya now, the keyframes from say...Gren's terrax mesh won't work with a mesh by Beyonder without some major editing via nifskope.

VX keyframes

aj4life16

I am learning a little more. But its also confused me more.

Specific ones for specific creations because each creator puts in their own code or something.

What file could I use for Apollo then, what would match? Or do  have to download a program to convert them?

Previsionary

Apollo can use "any" generic VX keyframe on the page I linked you to. Meshes use specific keyframes because of how they're built in 3ds max, not through code. There used to be a page about all this stuff on FR and NPI, but they seem to be gone. Without getting technical (and doing the best I can), some meshes have specific parts and pieces that require certain keys to function properly.

Quote from: NPIEach set of keyframes have animations created specifically for it to best portray common heroic action types.
These keys will work with all current and future  vx meshes requiring keyframes.
Special note: when installing these keys remove the description prefix from the keyframe name then install along side character.nif in mesh folder
ie.  change super_keyframe.kf to keyframe.kf then install

Quote from: tomatoKeyframes- The skeletal system of your mesh, keyframes determine what movements your hero makes, like whether s/he throws tanks with his mighty muscles or throws them with his/her mighty brain

Quote from: AlexA mesh will also have a corresponding Keyframes file (KEYFRAMES.KF) in the same folder as the mesh. This file contains data on all the animations (running, punching) a specific mesh can do.

Quote from: AlexSometimes, you will download a mesh without a keyframe file. If your character just glides around without moving their legs or arms, their mesh is probably missing a keyframes file.

This is done to save space as keyframes are much bigger than the mesh files. The creator of the mesh will usually tell you what keyframes will work with their mesh. Just copy the right keyframes.kf file to the mesh folder and your mesh will be good to go.

I must be doing something wrong then.

I downloaded a few of them, pout them in the Apollo file and named it key whatever and nothing. Unless my mind is screwing up after not going to bed and the answer is there.

Very odd. I just downloaded VX_Apollo and VX super male keyframes and it worked. The default keyframes for apollo are basically just place holders so you need to erase those. If you still can't get it to work, I can just send you the version I just did.

*Note: Keyframes need to go inside the mesh folder (IE: library\characters\vxApollo)

aj4life16

Yep done that. I don't understand whats wrong with it.

If you could just send me hen, if its email just use this. Thanks.

You can try looking in the herofiles section of the forums or checking to see if USAgent, Taskmaster, Alex, or someone else may have done herofiles for them already.

aj4life16

Thanks for all the help.
