oh man that looks great!

C4

The special effects with his landing & taking off etc looks great, and it looks to be funny as well.

Cant wait.

RTTingle

The whale bit is hilarious...

"I don't remember that."

"Greenpeace does."

Even before will smith was attatched there was a lot of buzz around the script, calling it hollywoods best unproduced script. And of course now seeing it on the screen with Smiths mix of drama and humor and awesome special effects, I honestly cant wait for it to come out.

Protomorph

Looks great!

stumpy

BWAHAHAHAHA! That looked awesome. I have never heard of this. Is it even based on a comic?

TheMarvell

yeah, I've never heard of this either, but it sounds like a good concept. Also, why is his name Hancock?

Also, why is his name Hancock?

Because that's his name.

but is there any relevance to it? The characters name is 'John Hancock'. Does he sign his name super big or something like the US founding father with the same name?

captainspud

No, it's just his name. It's not a superhero name. His father's name was "Hancock", and his given name is John.

Yeah, saw the trailer a little while ago.  I love the way that he breaks stuff when he takes off and lands.  Nothing worse than a jaded, burnt out and VERY powerful superhero.

So, did the whale hit a boat???  I'm trying to remember.  VERY funny!

Oh and I like that he doesn't have a costume or a special name.  It fits him being jaded...like he could care less!  Lol!

From finally watching the trailer, I'm going to give the movie my final review

Plot:
Haven't seen the plot, so I'll have to give it the worst case scenario.
0/10

Effects:
They look ok, but there may be some cheesy stuff not in the trailer that ruins it, so worst case
0/10

Sound/Music:
Again, gotta give it the worst case
0/10

Acting:
This movie has Jason Bateman in it
999999999999999999999.../10

Final:
24999999999999999999... .75/10

Looks great!

Cardmaster

So excited. That's all I gotta say.

I'm kind of split on this one. Looks cool, but i'm not sure i'll like it.

vamp

I don't know if that is his real name, but to me it may be the fact that he leaves his "signature"/mark in a big way where ever he goes. Like him destroying the ground when he takes off or lands.

The movie does look goo though.

thanoson

I'm liking the trailers. Looks good.

Its off the front page now, but Aint it cool had a plot summary from an advance screening that pretty much killed any interest I had in seeing this.  The first 1/4 sounded ok, and then it started to go downhill- the last 1/4 being utter garbage.

With prices being what they are, I think this is a wait for the DVD- unless they've substntially changed the plot.

Don't know if it helps, but AMC has a deal on movies before noon on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays for $5.00.  That's the time I go to see movies.  It's also a load quieter than Friday premiere nights.  (I also have a MovieWatcher card which gives free stuff and discounts on concessions.)  Gotta save the money as best I can without sacrificing the entertainment. :)

So I've been hearing a bit about this movie and apparently it's got some darker stuff in it?
I've heard, not to be unfamily friendly, but...
They've had to cut a couple statutory defile scenes to get a rating other than R. I also heard it was setup to be a cross between a sendup of super heroes, and a gritty Watchmen type story.
Does anybody have anymore information on this? There might be something about immortality and weird plot twists in here too. It's possible Hancock is going to be more than people expected.

EDIT: Oh, and I just read this article. Interesting stuff.

Pyroclasm

I've always disliked when the studios feature trailers that hide what kind of movie you are about to see.  I've seen trailers that show movies to be scary, and they turn out to be a hilarious parody.  Yet others that try to show how hilarious a movie is and then it turns out it's a tear-jerker and the only jokes in the entire movie were in the trailer.  I was hoping Hancock would be more than just fluff (and was prepared for it to be), and that article seems to suggest that my hope was correct.  Now when I go to see it I can be prepared to not watch a brainless kid-oriented comedy.  Oh, and of course I can wait for the proper director's cut on DVD that will put back those scenes they removed to keep their rating. ;)

*Bump*

Anyone seen Hancock yet?  If so, what were your impressions?  What think ye?!

GogglesPizanno

I was kind of excited for a while, but everything Ive heard thus far ranges from horrible to complete mess. Im tempted to wait till it heats the cheap theater now.

the film is actually getting average reviews across the board. It has a good first half, according to most reviews,  but the second half is...it doesn't mesh well. That may be because the film kept getting cut because they wanted that pg-13 rating instead of the original R rating.

Protomorph

Saw it today. I liked it!

The action was good, and the powers were well done. The romantic subplot in the second half was...contrived, but at least it was explained away effectively.

And, of course, was left open for sequels. Who knows if it will get any, though?

While enjoyable, I rather doubt it will do as well as Iron Man at the box office, despite being the July 4th Will Smith movie he is famous now for, but who knows. I will wait for the "unrated director's cut" on DVD.

bredon7777

Is the plot twist as bad, idiotic and movie-killing as we've all heard?

stumpy

2.5-3 of 5 stars; not bad, but not especially good either. I would definitely recommend seeing Iron Man or Incredible Hulk before Hancock.

I liked the special effects, the humor, and the central plot line of the first half of the movie. I thought that was all pretty well done and they could have had a whole movie developing that theme and carrying it through.

The second half of the movie (the one started by the plot twist, which you sort of see coming) really felt like it was written for a different movie. That other movie might have been fine, too, but I don't think it meshed well with the first half. It was a different idea and it was different in tone as well.

I really like Will Smith and was hoping this would have been third in a series of good superhero movies, but I sort of came away thinking someone should have read the script and decided which movie they were making before filming this.
