Clean up and reinstall.

Hello folks,

I've been away, haven't played FFvT3R in ages, haven't skinned, haven't done any modding/scripting.

I want to have a clean up, because things are running a bit buggy and rather than try to fix it, I'm going to remove it all.

To the point. since I haven't had to reinstall FFvT3R and all the necessary modifications, EZFX, FFX etc. I was wondering if any of you good people could draft out a list of the necessaries. Also the order in which they should be installed, plus links to where I might find them.

Thanks in advance.

Pariah

This is an excellent suggestion for noobs as well. Maybe something could be posted at the FR World wiki site too.

I know I would find it a boon.

Sorry, Shazbourne. I almost forgot. Ok, going by memory, this is my suggested order of operation (or in this case: order of installation):

1. FFVTTR
2. EZFX 6.0 - www.alexff.com
3. FFX 3.2 - http://ffx.freedomforceforever.com/  (it auto detects whether or not ezfx is installed)

Optional: Modtools, Nifskope <---order doesn't matter

OR:

1. FFVTTR
2. EZFX 6.0
3. FFX 3.0 - http://www.fundamentzero.com/

Optional: Modtools, Nifskope <---order doesn't matter

What's the difference, you ask? FFX 3.0 won't detect ezfx 6.0 and you'll have to merge .dat files to get the extra effects to show up. Hope that helps a bit.

Okay..first thing's first

1. Install the cd (duh, right? heh)
2. Mod Tools - http://www.freedomfans.com/ffvttr/downloads.php (It's the first download link.)
2. Install FFX3.2 - http://ffx.freedomforceforever.com/
2a. On the same site, you may want to download the extras. Objects is to summon different color objects for the Plasma Sculptor attribute, which I find very useful for my custom characters. Installation instructions included.
3. VPMAX - http://freedomreborn.net/archive/index.php?topic=40908.0 (Voice packs that enhance your game experience.)
4. EZFX 6.0 - http://www.alexff.com/ezfx.php (FFX3.2 has the sound.dat and fx.dat files to support EZFX6.0, I believe, so you don't have to merge dats at all. Just replace the ones named EZFX to their appropriate name. If I'm wrong, installing this last should work out perfectly.)

I think those are the basics with some flourishment. If I'm missing something or incorrectly placed their order, just correct me.

(I see Previsionary beat me too it. Damn you! *shakes fist*)  ^_^

hmm can vpmax go in after ezfx and ffx or am i just messed up

Shazam

Thanks everyone, I'll attempt a complete uninstall/reinstall as soon as I have some time, lol

Hmm, I just got a new computer and I'm trying to do all of the above to get the game running again. Now, however, the rumble room isn't working; it's fine on FFvTR unmodded but the game hangs when I do as much as press the Rumble Room button on the main menu. Anyone got any ideas what's going on? I thank you in advance.

Does that order of installation require .dat files to be merged with the previous ones?  And where would the map pack come in?

GogglesPizanno

As Previsionary said, the FFX3.2 installer should auto-detect whether EZFX 6.0 is installed and use the appropriate DAT file. So no merging should be required.

The Map pack is a content mod built on a clean FFX 3.2 install.
So playing the Map Pack mod is just like playing a stock FFX3.2 game, only with the FF1 content included.

People have said copying that art/mission content and merging the DAT's (you should only have to do the character and object ones) works as well so if you wanted to unify everything down into a single folder, its doable.

Gremlin

So, EZFX, FFX, then VPMAX and map pack?  No merging required, just use the .dat files of the new one?

VPMax should require .dat merging.

I'm not sure about the map pack, but I don't think so.

Gremlin

I will try to make it work!  Thanks, cat!

So how'd it turn out? I was looking for a bit of help myself along these lines.

This is really useful for me too, since I just got my new pc and now I have to reinstall everything..

Can we confirm the O/S's FFVTTR will work on here as well? Here's what I know.....

Windows XP w/ SP 2 - Yes
Windows Media Center Edition 2005 - No
Windows Vista Home Basic - ?
Windows Vista Home Premium - ?
Windows Vista Ultimate Edition - ?

If anyone can confirm if it runs on the above versions of Vista or if anyone has got it to run in Windows Media Center Edition 2005 let us know. Also I think we should verify if the Tools work in each of these versions as well.

Thanks!

stumpy

It looks as though people have gotten FF and FFvT3R to work under at least two variants of Windows Vista. See the Vista thread in Technical Issues for some posts on this.

VPMax should require .dat merging.

I'm not sure about the map pack, but I don't think so.

Just to answer this, since no one else has and I recently just installed this myself:

The Map Pack is set up like a mod and FFX 3.2 is already active within it. VPMAX would require merging. So if you want 300mb (zipped) worth of maps and don't want to deal with installing them + ffx yourself, just go for the map pack and most of that hassle is eliminated. You'll still need to install ezfx, however.

1: Game
2: EZFX 6.0
3: FFX 3.2
4: VPMAX (merging)

edited to add:

FFX 3.2.2 would probably fit in best after ffx 3.2 since you have to merge the files as well...sooooo:

1: Game
2: EZFX 6.0
3: FFX 3.2
4: FFX 3.2.2 (Merging)
5: VPMAX (merging)
