At least this way, we can hopefully see Venom and the symbiotes done the way they should be.

BentonGrey

Hm, color me completely ambivilent.  I don't really care anything about Venom, and even less when he's not in a Spidey story.  Still, decent comic book movies are good for the industry, so I hope it does well.

BlueBard

Personally, Venom has been among my least favorite characters in Spidey's stable of villains and I wouldn't be interested in a full-length movie that had nothing to do with Spider-Man.  I'm not even sure I'd care for a full-length movie with Spider-Man.  I'd rather see Spidey movies that introduce more of his classic enemies... Vulture, Rhino, Scorpion, Kingpin, Electro, etc.  I would have gone to see Spider-Man 3 if they had left Venom out and just concentrated on Green Goblin II and Sandman.

But for those of you who do like Venom... uh, go Venom?  Better than a 'Kraven the Hunter' movie, I guess.

(Actually, Kraven done right wouldn't be too bad, even if I think his classic outfit looks ridiculous.)

the_ultimate_evil

ok three thing i think once i hear this news

1) yeah right

2) how in the hell are they going to bring back eddie after basically destroying him in spidey 3

3) this better be a new blade, cause there is no way carnage can be done in a pg 13

Jakew

Bring back the sybiote is easy enough (Dr Connors took a sample to test), but yeah, Eddie was pretty much a skeleton at the end of Spidey 3.

Why are they basing a spin-off around the most unpopular element of the last film?

the jive dancing?

every review i read said venom was the highlight of the film, just that there wasn't enough of him

herodad1

i'm with blue bard,i like all his villians but venom.i wouldnt go see it.

GogglesPizanno

Of all the comic properties to run with...they chose Venom?
Weak....

Maybe if they did it as a musical.
At least then it would be interesting.

the_ultimate_evil

ooooooooooooook when did it become cool for the fanboys to hate venom, guess it was only a matter of time. he's popular with the mainstream so of course the hardcore fans with turn on the character

Previsionary

I openly admit to not thinking all that much about venom, but I do realize he was initially a good villain, on two fronts, for peter. That being said, a venom movie is not necessarily a bad move. We know next to nothing about what's going to happen and, hrm..., venom has been introduced to the mainstream at least twice now...Spidey: TAS [90s] and spidey 3...both, despite criticism, that have fared well...so it makes sense to go with something that's already been established with the non-comic community.

Why do you assume that when we complain about Venom, all of us are fanboys who are turning on something cause its mainstream?

Isn't it possible that there are some of us that have always felt Venom was a decent one off villain for an occasional story but that as an ongoing "main" character hes rather bland, boring and uninteresting?

Jakew

How does thinking Venom was the weak-link in spider-man 3 translate to me being a "fanboy" or a "hardcore fan"? Ease up   ;)

catwhowalksbyhimself

And why are we assuming that this would be a spin off of SM3?  As a matter of fact, this movie is not made by the same company as the Spider Man movies and probably would not even be allowed to use the same storylines.

TheMarvell

I like Venom. But he wasn't used very well in Spider-Man 3. In fact he was pretty much a throw-away villain with mad web-graffiti skills  It's a shame too, as I feel SM3 really had the potential to be the best of the 3. But Raimi's lack of Venom-love showed by only giving Venom the last 20 minutes of screen time, giving very little explanation to the symbiote, and showcasing a cringe-worthy dance scene with Parker and that stupid hair style.

Complaints aside, I enjoyed SM3, but not exactly on the same level as the others. Venom's own movie could be interesting, but as of right now, spin-off movies really haven't done so well (Elektra, Catwoman, etc). I'd rather just have Venom come back in one of the next Spidey movies.

catwhowalksbyhimself

I hate to have to say this again.

But it does not look like this will be a spin off.

cripp12

I gotta say that I have 2 young ones and there favorite part of the movie was VENOM.  They even wanted the VENOM figures and shirts. I hear them talking to there friends about venom all the time. I guess they are playing to the new generation.

UnfluffyBunny

considering every venom solo title ever published has entered my home, I for one will wait for details before slamming it.
i'm also semi amused at how it's the people who "dont care" about it that are taking the time to post here

GogglesPizanno

As one who really doesn't care about Venom... I'm posting more in reactionary frustration at the fact they are choosing this as a big budget comic book film when there are so many other properties (both mainstream and indie) that would be so much better.

UnfluffyBunny

but thats just your oppinion, and yeah i'm not going to try and argue with you because it is your oppinion and I respect your right to have it, but replying in frustration because you think they're wasting budget would be the same as me saying they're wasting money making a new indy jones movie cos I think harrison ford's too old, it's not nessecarily true, it's just a personal view.
you shouldnt get frustrated just because people dont see things the same way as you.

GogglesPizanno

I'm not gnashing my teeth about this or anything, and I'm not actually trying to come across as argumentative or anything.

I'm just participating in the proud history of internet Movie discussion. I mean unless the movie is in production, has released a trailer or information what else can anyone really say about a movie thats essentially vaporware besides "Yay" or "Nay"?

Below is my patented template for online movie discussion:

"They are making a movie of _______

"Awsome!"
"Suck!"
"Awsome!"
"Suck"
"You're Awsome"
"You Suck"
"Star Wars"
"Huh Where?"

(Rinse and Repeat)

Do it the same way the comics code constrained comics did it, by implying that he is horrible but not showing the worse bits on screen. It's not hard to show bloody fingers and call it a severed arm if your not seeing where it was chopped or watching his tentacles impale people in shadows. And then again america loves violence so you can probably get some pretty nasty stuff in and stay pg 13.

Ares_God_of_War

The only real problem I would have in a Venom movie is who would you use as a villian? I would hope not Carnage because I would rather see him in a spider-man movie just because I believe the budget would be a bit bigger. Most movies are only has good as their villians and if they dont really seem like much of a threat it feels dissapointing, Its why I enjoyed Superman 2 out of all the Superman movies because the Kryptonians felt more like a threat than the comedic Lex Luthor or the Hulk movie, Absorbing Dad was the part that ruined it for me.

What frightens me is that... out of Vulture, Rhino and Electro, classic Kraven really is silliest looking of them all. That says a lot considering Vulture's costume consisted of an old man in green tights and a purple boa around his neck with big green wings under his arm. Kraven may look the most ridiculous but Vulture is definitely the lamest looking of them all.

I'd like to see Vulture make a brief cameo even if it just him ranting at Spider-man as he swings by about how he fight him once and injured his hip.

As for the Venom movie? I like Venom, I like him as a character but 75% of his appearances in comics make my eyes bleed. Let alone some of the garbage that they did with all of his symbiotes, just eww... On a quick note I liked Venom in Sinner Takes All & Separation Anxiety (even though the wrap up felt like a cop out in a way but eh) I just try to forget all the solo series that followed is all.

Question when you say Kraven's classic outfit, does this imply they actually updated his look? Cause even up until fairly recently everything I have seen has him still sporting something very similar to his original get up. I've seen a few artists pull his look off to be pretty cool though, his big weakness IMO is the zebra belt with teeth on it and the skin tight giraffe print pants.
