I have a quick question, I got a plug-in for GIMP for it to be able to use Photoshop Plug-ins, now if I ask someone to lend me some plug-in files from Photoshop, is that illegal?
Thanks, if someone answers me. :D

As long as the Photoshop plug-ins are free (and most of them are), I don't see any legal or ethical problems with using them in GIMP. BTW, I've never heard of a GIMP plug-in that can do what you say it does (haven't used GIMP in a couple of years)... any info about who developed it?

EDIT: nevermind... found an article on it on Linux.com... looks like it was made by GIMP hacker Tor Lillqkvist (if we're talking about the same GIMP plug-in).

I've been meaning to switch to GIMP for the last couple of years, since I decided to support more open-source software development, but the current GIMP is sorely behind even the eight-year old Photoshop 6.0 in terms of features... no real layer effects (all "layer effects" need a new layer, unlike in Photoshop which has non-destructive layer effects) which can lead to obscenely huge working files and the lack of CMYK support is a deal-breaker for anybody who does any graphic work that's meant to be printed (most commercial printers still use CMYK colour information).

Yep, we're talking about the same, and I'm talking about the already built-in plug ins.

I believe it would be in violation of Adobe's copyright to share any files that came packaged with the programme; however, there exist many filters, actions, brushes, and other presets that may be downloaded freely from the Internet, many of which approximate or perform better than the built-in plug-ins from Adobe.  A Google search will probably yield good results in no time.
