I just bought my copy today on the way home from the airport, but I probably won't get to watch it until tomorrow (Wednesday) morning!  Has anybody else gotten it and want to post some reviews?  The anticipation is killing me......

On the whole, I liked it, they excised a significant portion of the original graphic novel story, but that's the only way they could have fit the story into a 70+ minute feature. One little nitpick: I didn't like how Martian Manhunter was rendered... he looked a little too much like "Mr. Clean."

Amazon just let me e-mailed me that my copy is in the mail.  Soooooo...I'll have to wait till I get it.  But when I do and watch it...I'll let you guys know.

I loved it! That's exactly how I like my Martian Manhunter.
I was just sitting there thinking, "I love the Flash!"

Ok, got mine Friday and watched it on Saturday.  Here's some first impressions:

WAY cool!!!  It is very, very true to the comics.  Bear in mind it is PG-13 and there are parts that aren't really for younger kids.  LOVE the statement made of the challenges moving from the golden age of comics to the silver age (civil rights, Mcarthy'ism, the cold war etc.).  And the DVD is chocked full of really cool special features with lots of commentary.

Green Lantern is GREAT!  Love the exchanges between Superman and WW!  I like the way the people that did this kept much of the coninuity in check while (like mentioning the dinosaur island) transitioning it to the necessarily shortened format for video.  Oh and you gotta' love the way the Martian Manhunter sharechanges to look like a 1960s Bugs Bunny and Groucho Marx!  Excellent!

For me, the Flash was the clear standout character.  I loved his humility in the face of teaming with such legendary and powerful heroes as Supes, Bats and WW even though the Flash is very powerful in his own right.  The face off between Flash and Captain Cold was GREAT!!  Don't mess with his Iris!!

The voice acting on the movie was good.  I really liked Kyle Mclachlan as Superman and Brooke Shields was remarkably good as Ms. Ferris.  In fact, the only voice that I thought was off was the guy did Batman.  The voicing itself was fine...it's just the tone etc that didn't connect for me.   Ah, but it is a minor criticism.

Few interesting really geeky question/coments:

1.  The scenes at the end that accomapany the audio of Kennedy's speech shows Black Canary as part of the Teen Titans.  Was BC ever a part of the TT???  This seems unlikely.  But you never know.  And even if it isn't a part of DC history...with all their various "Earths" it certainly could potentially be!

2.  Whose the guy with red outfit, fin on his head, toting the raygun and jet pack???  I'm pretty familiar with most of the classic characters but this guy is unknown to me.

All in all very well done!

1. She wasn't part of the TT, that was just a cameo shot, iirc. JSA fits her bill if the opening is anything to go by.

2.  If you're talking about whom I'm imagining, then it's Adam Strange.

I just bought it this weekend on a whim, and I agree, it's very cool. I'm not used to this level of violence on a cartoon, but the most graphic part at the beginning really is an essential part of the story.  I like how the big three, while an important part of things themselves, are not the main emphasis of the story.  Lots of great moments there, and this really is an introduction to the silver age.

Just looked up Adam Strange on Wikipedia.  Yeah, I think that's him alright.  Thanks!

I really enjoyed this DVD, much more than the other recent Direct to DVD titles released by either DC or Marvel.  It's fairly faithful to the New Frontier comic (with a few alterations & cuts presumably for time).  Green Lantern & the Flash really are the stars, plus J'onn, but Batman, Wonder Woman & Superman all get their moments to shine.  Lucy Lawless & Kyle Maclachlan do fine Wonder Woman & Superman voices, and so did David Boreanaz & Doogie Howser for GL and the Flash - but my honest, first reaction to hearing Batman's voice was "who's speaking?"  Even though there are only 2 characters on screen at the time, I assumed there must have been a third, because the Batman-voice didn't sound like Batman (in other words, like Kevin Conroy).

But, Keven Conroy did voice a cop I think. When he was talking to Batman.

I just plain don't understand why they would EVER cast ANYONE else as Batman...I mean, Conroy IS Batman.  Yeah, they want to distance themselves from TAS, whatever, but that man breathes life into that character like nobody's business.

one of the best adeptation i have ever seen. voice acting was awesome the story was great. i only wish it was 2 hours long and not 70 minutes. maybe next time . see it and enjoy.
