Ok so I own  :ffvstr: and I cannot figure out how to get skins into the game. I mean I have read every single guide I could find, but 95% of the meshes I need are dead links. When I do have the meshes there are no keyworks, so the character just floats and inch off the ground and does nothing.

I know this is asking alot, but can someone PLEASE give me a link to a possibly complete set of custom characters (hell if someone could just zip there custom character folder, I would bow down, but hey I understand that it is most likely Xbox Huuuuge!), with skins and keywork files? I tried using the Master List, however like mentioned before, if a mesh was there the key work wasn't. I've always been the kind of guy who learns by tinkering, and I find the guides to be hard to follow.

Have you read this because this is the best guide we've got probably

http://frworld.wikispaces.com/Installing+skins+and+meshes

And the rest of the wiki is pretty good for your general questions.

Anyway, what you're looking for is keyframes.kf not keywords. and a good load of them can be found at http://www.newpowerinc.com/meshworks/keyframe_central.htm

Good luck :D

have you tried installing a complete mesh+keyframe  set yet? Try one of Renegade's that hes made for FFVTTR at http://www.renegadetoybox.com/

Edited later that day...

Okay, this is simple stuff, but I'm going to list it anyway.

In the mesh forum there are two lists, the master mesh list and the Yahoo Group list. There are a lot of dead links, but there are a massive number of live ones. There are also sites and Yahoo Groups that are not on the list.

Check out the signatures of the posters on this site. If they have a site or group with meshes, skins, voicepacks, etc., they will often have a link you can use. Also, on those sites, check out their link pages. There are still a lot of dead links, but you never know what you might find.

Search the Yahoo Groups. To do this, get creative: use combinations of Freedom, Force, game, super, hero, mesh, skin, and anything else you can think of. I'm still finding an occasional group when I come up with something I haven't thought of before. If you find a group, such as Copper_Wire, add a "2" and see what you get. Actually, for Copper Wire you add a "_2". Then of course, keep adding until you run out of groups. Tommyboy has something like 24 groups. Bear in mind that not all groups are named consistently. After you run out of groups, you might use parts of the name of the groups in a search. For instance, Atomic Robot has both AtomicRobot groups and Robatomic groups. Also, the INK groups are not numberd exactly the same (I think #5 is different, as are teh two revival groups). You might check the Google Groups also; Peerless has a group there for some very nice "scoped" meshes.

Ask for what you need in the Request forum. The people on this list will give you links and locations, and sometimes e-mail you skins and meshes. The people around here are extremely generous. Occasionally someone will even MAKE you what you ask for.

Learn to use Nifscope, at least as far as being able to hide and unhide the parts of a mesh. Sometime, when I can't find "SomethingorOther HEX"  or "HEXED Thisorthat", I can find the original and fix it myself so that the skin I find will work. (HEX or hexed means that the mesh has been altered with a hexidecimal editor. Nifscope is one variety of those.)

As Italianpornstar points out in the next post, sometimes you have to dig through a mesh's history and track down an earlier incarnation and use its keyframes. Sometimes you have a hex of a hex of a hex, and the hex of a hex's keyframes don't work (nor will the hex's), but the original's usually will. The readme file will usually say if this is not the case.

Keep an eye on the Requests, Releases, and Site Updates forums. That is where the news is. The Mesh, Hexedit, and Skins forums will let you know what is coming. You migh find better versions of stuff you want are just about to be available.

Don't get discouraged. Always ask for help (you've already done that). I've been back at this for a year, and I've gotten a lot of help from people too numerous to count. Sometimes it takes awhile for the person who has he correct information to see your plea, but be patient.

If you install a skin or mesh, make the mesh is for the correct version of the game, and check out folder structure. If your skins aren't in the right place, you get a snowman in the game. Not good if you aren't playing Iceman. Double check and be sure that he skin is designed to fit the mesh, and that the skin files have the proper names (see how the standard skin folder is set up). I've never found a problem with this, but there is always a first time.

Like I said, a lot of simple stuff.
