If the Avengers on the pod are the genuine article, (and have been since the 70's, during the Kree-Skrull war) then so are the other versions genuine. When they died fighting Onslaught and were recreated by Franklin, he obviously wouldn't know this and remade them in their genuine forms (just like Teen Tony Stark and Insectoid Wasp were corrected in this way).

Sorry to dissapoint you, but those aren't the Kree/Skrull War era Avengers emerging from that pob (not least because Clint Barton was in his Goliath identity durring the Kree/Skrull War, and only re-assumed his Hawkeye identity right after the War- in a very different costume, I might add). Those are, instead, the David Michelinie Avengers, from around the year 1980- although the exact lineup is hard to pin down (Hawkeye's with the team, as are Ms. Marvel and Thor, while neither the Falcon nor Jocasta are in evidence- and, oddly enough, the Beast is wearing glasses, which he never did as an Avenger). (Note- I don't own the Secret Invasion comic, myself, but I looked at it earlier today. My memory of the image in question may be a little off.)

Sorry 'bout that. I read several news items about it and more than one said 70's, so I believed them. I was passing on bad info, apparently.

Outcast

Just saw this yesterday.

Sorry not sure if this is old news but...
Did they already reveal this in the comics? Avengers?
I'm not really buying any comics but i'm really interested in this.

How did they explain the story about this?
Zippo

Yep, that was revealed in the comics a while ago.
Jessica Drew is actually the Skrull queen. The comics go into quite a bit of detail as to how she's been manipulating people and events over the last few years. I believe they picked Spider Woman as the Queen's identity because her past was already so shady, and she had affiliations with tons of different groups and heroes. She also switched from New to Mighty Avengers, and played them both right into her plans.
Outcast

Thanks.
Queen of the Skrulls. Hmmm..so does she have any special powers compared to ordinary skrulls? Or did she just used the usual high technology to mimic Spider Woman's powers?

Did they mention what happened to the real Jessica/Spider Woman?
Oh, and when the switch happened?  :)

I'm a Jessica Drew/Original Spider-Woman fan from way back...And I have to say this revelation enraged me.  Bendis not only killed my favorite Canadian super heroes off-panel, but now he's screwed up one of my favorite heroines, who I thought had come back and was going to be finally recognized as a cool heroine.
It's been rumored that Abigail Brand from the S.W.O.R.D. organization is really Jessica in disquise...At this point...I don't care, BMB has ruined her.  I violently dislike BMB!
ANGRY!  :banghead:

How is this still going on? Haven't they been building up this event for a year or more? Shouldn't this be done and over with by now?

it does end soon. The ending was partially spoiled thanks to the many tie ins that out rank the actual event. I don't remember when the book comes out, but the ties in fill out the final few weeks of this month and dark reign starts in December.

Also, Bendis loves Spider-Woman (IIRC). I wouldn't call her dead and he has said he wanted her to be a skrull since the beginning in one of his many interviews. If it wasn't for SI becoming an event, you would have learned that Jessica was a skrull a long long time ago.

cmdrkoenig67

It just seems odd to me, that somebody claiming to love the character would write about an imposter of said character for many, many issues.

Bendis and Maleev are doing a Spider-Woman ongoing starting after Secret Invasion. And since Veranke died in the last issue I'd think it's about the real deal.

I seriously doubt Brand was Veranke. I'm nearly positive they've been in two completely different places at the same time.

And Bendis has stated his love for Spider-Woman well before Secret Invasion. He originally wanted her to be the star of Alias.

Huh?
I said Jessica (the real deal) was rumored to be posing as Ms. Brand, Not Veranke.
Oh, must have misunderstood you. Yeah that's possible. Actually I seem to recall something about the new ongoing being about Spider-Woman being an agent of SWORD, not 100% on that though.

I'd expect Alias would have played out quite differently had Bendis been cleared to use Spider-Woman.
Well, Jessica has had long-term ties to the X-Men...Getting jiggy with one, is probably inevitable (if she is indeed, posing as Agent Brand).

The Hitman

Previsionary

speaking of skrulls, this came out today in some parts of the world.
Hulk 8 was in continuity because Jessica is back. In fact, all the skrull replaced heroes are back including Mockingbird...somehow. The skrulls were absent from most of the actual book. Norman is now in a better position to grab power from Tony as was hinted at in the last few books Norman was in and...Jessica had her baby kidnapped. Also, the reason for the one day invasion was finally revealed. Another thing of note is that Tony and Thor still have friendship issues and the dark illuminati were revealed. They are: Norman, Namor, Doom, Emma, The Hood, and femLOki.
tommyboy

Worst. "Event". Ever.
The only 'entertainment' I derive from any of this is that other people are retarded enough to pay money that they might actually have to work for in order to read this. That is black comedy at it's finest, though I am now rooting for flesh eating bacteria over humanity due to the bacteria being more discerning...
Anyway, now return to your rational discourse on popular culture and ignore the man with the throbbing forehead veins ranting pointlessly..

Vertex

wait a sec.. wasn't tommy boy a movie starring Chris Farley? Oh yeah he died. Dude relax or maybe ya know... just saying life is worth living.

You know, I liked SI. I thought the last issue was a letdown. It felt a bit rushed and it didn't have that "epic" feel to it. I have to give Bendis props for planning this whole thing out from the beginning regardless of the mediocre conclusion. The last page saves it from being a poor conclusion IMO. Because of it, I'm looking forward to what's next.

Art was fantastic. Yu is serious talent.

AfghanAnt

I'm going to mirror Murs here. I liked SI but like with the conclusion of HOM and Civil War this was just "ok".

I am looking forward to the Dark Illuminati though.

Previsionary

Hrm, while I haven't been a big proponent of SI at all, I will admit that "some" issues were good and that the tie-ins were much better than anything I read in the actual event; however, this book has been plagued with things being spoiled because of their scheduling. It's kind of a problem when all the tie-ins spoil everything the main book should be using to keep interest.

Thunderbolts/Spider-man:
spoiled Norman's plans and attempts at usurping Tony. Not to mention that the Spidey tie in casually mentioned they won the fight, so the skrulls being threats was completely wiped from the event.
She Hulk/Hulk:
Both spoiled the ending by showing that Invisible Woman AND Jessica were back. One of these books came out last week. Last...week.
reveals:
there were so little and they played very little importance that it didn't really matter at all, imo.
While I won't eagerly knock Bendis because writing comics isn't an easy feat, I will knock the scheduling and his idea of stretching this event out to 8 issues when it only needed 4-6 issues to tell. The problems were really beginning to show when the tie-ins held your interest and were more relevant than the main book itself. I don't think I've ever kept up with an event that had most of the relevant info revealed and spoiled in tie-ins weeks in advance. If I were to rate this event at all, and I don't remember a lot of it, it'd be a 2 and the tie ins I actually read would be a 3-3.5.

Podmark

Prev keep in mind that Secret Invasion 8 was supposed to have come out 2 weeks ago (it was almost the first modern big event to not have a late issue), so Hulk's schedule problem was that it wasn't also delayed.

I can't say much for Secret Invasion as a whole, I didn't read it. What I've heard doesn't really excite for the most part.
I did read a number of tie-ins. I liked most of them. The Initiative did a great job with the tie-ins. X-Men's was weak. Spider-Man's was pretty good for not even having Spidey in it. X-Factor was ok, art hurt. Runaways/Young Avengers was alright. Nova's worked out very nicely but not because of the Skrulls. I liked the second issue of New Warriors tie-in (my last issue of the book). I think that's all the one I read. And all of them I would have read regardless of the Secret Invasion crossover.

I'm just happy we can finally find out what's coming up in Dark Reign. I'm really excited for Mighty Avengers and The Initiative. I'll start a new Dark Reign thread later to tell you guys whats coming.

truer words were never spoken...

i tend to despise bendis personally, but i wanted to like SI, as it was shaping up to be good... It was just that every time something good would happen to get my hopes up, bendis would pull off some twist that just annoyed me... or he wouldn't even have a twist, he'd just kill that early momentum...

also:
glad to see clint got his groove back. shame about janet. maybe bendis will leave hank pym alone now...
Yes, but that only solves the hulk problem. Stuff was still being revealed all over weeks in advanced. In fact, several people involved with SI kept revealing that Tony and Capt weren't skrulls...which was odd because Bendis played up that angle in the story. Way to kill a potential storyline before we're even out of the gate. ^_^

I think the reason they said early on that Tony and Cap weren't skrulls was to validate what was done in Civil War. And I'm not convinced it was a mistake, especially in regards to Cap. People needed to know that Cap had really died and would not be popping back alive again in a year's time or less. With Tony he took a lot of flack for being a 'villain' in CW and the possibility that he was a skrull would have just made the entire Civil War ramifications obsolete. But that said keeping the door open with Tony would have been a good idea, but he definitely shouldn't have been a skrull.

Previsionary

I'd agree, but you don't go out and ruin a potential storyline before issue 1 even comes out (or whichever issue those interviews starting coming out in). You let them be until that point of the story has passed. I would have enjoyed it so much more if it wasn't thrown out before hand that this person or that person was or wasn't the skrull...which was kinda the point of the event...you weren't supposed to know before hand. I think it was pretty clear that Capt/Steve wasn't going to come back considering we saw his body at least twice and skrull cap died...and invader's cap is running around...+ bucky. But then again...Mockingbird randomly reappeared...so...*shrugs*.
