I12 Character Concept and FR revival

Hello, kiddoes.

Zap, Cam, Pyre, Gday , DW and I were knocking around an Idea that would be awesome to impliment for I12. We were deciding what type of toons to have for the powerset diversification, and it dawned on me we could use the (basically) abandoned FR base and turn it around into a JSA like concept/.

For those of you who dont read GOOD comics, the JSA is a mix of young and old Super heroes, with the older generation of heroes ushering in  and training the noobs. My concept was to have a set of Legacy type characters, that somehow is inspired by your first FR toon, your first fiddy, whatever.

For example - My new I12 toon is going to be Atomic Rose (and I already reserved the name , you bastiches.)  A plant / rad troller who's daddy is Atomic Saint.  We chatted as well about some derivatives of Ms Knockout, Kid Dynamo, Camma, etc - all new, all different toons with new powersets, but with a certian flavor of the old.

My hope is that this will start a lot of us teaming together on  a regular basis, if we make toons at (sort of) the same time, are in the same SG again, etc.

So, feel free to opine and let me know what you think.

Carravaggio

Great idea! even tho i'm unlikely to be involved, i will be eager to see screenshots of it being implemented

BlueBard

Hm.  Would we have to have a 'legacy' toon to participate?

My only semi-firm plan at this point is to 'reboot' BlueBard on Freedom as a Sonic/Mental blaster.

Alternatively, GeoFire might get a sister and/or brother as either fire/* scrapper or earth/thermal controller (though that's not my first choice of what I want to play with).  Would I need to move him from FA to FR?

Kommando

Hmm... considering my first I12 toon may well be a Blood Widow or Wolf Spider, that could be interesting.  But then again, Krimson Blood was in FR for all of a month or so in late 2005 til he got kicked sometime during my 2 year hiatus and I'm not sure if I want to make another scrapper.  Maybe I'll just make a light side Maddy as a fire/therm troller and team sporadically with you guys like I always do.

Mystik

I'll join sounds fun
themed supergroups was the only thing really kept my interest (sentais, dragons are my highest lvls)

Not necessarily.  I think the concept lends itself to us cuz we would love to re-do certain characters but this idea provides the ability to do that while still preserving backstories and concepts.

Alaric

Personaly, I'd rather stay away from any kind of "theme" for now. I'd rather create my I12 characters based on the concepts i come up with for the power sets, rather than having to shoehorn them into the "legacy hero" idea.

Having said that, the only new character I've created since I12 was announced is the Amazing Alaric (on Champion), basically, a redone version of my original concept for Alaric 7, using willpower instead of regeneration (wich I would have done with the original had it been available), and taking all the various "punch"-type pool powers (boxing, air superiority, and flurry) as his main attacks, to better simulate a street-fighting/brawling type combat style. I'm planning to avoid taking a travel power for him, but I will take fitness pool powers (yes, including stamina), as they actually do fit the concept, and unlike A7, I'll be able to fit them in without losing other powers I want. He's a blast to play- even though I've been purely soloing him so far, it's amazing how much of the fun I had when I first started playing this game comes back to me while playing him. I've gotten him to level 10 so far- I may hold off leveling him further until after I12 hits. I was halfway considering starting a sg with him gered towards allowing FRers to recreate their original character concepts using newly-available power sets...

Of course, he's not really a "legacy hero"... more of a redone version of an old hero, with a slightly altered name. Still, despite my feeling on the subject, I can defintely see the idea's atraction.

BlueBard

Strictly speaking, as long as FR isn't being limited to 'do-overs' it isn't what I'd call a 'theme'.  The theme, if it be so called, would be what it's always been... Member of Freedom Reborn message board.  Do I have that right?

Are we talking about changing the '1 Alt Only' rule so "old-timers" and "fledgling heroes" can co-exist in the same SG?

The legacy hero thing is still a theme, even if it's not a required one. I didn't say I was against the idea, just that I personally am not interested at this point in participating.

The FR "1 Alt Only" rule was removed a while ago.

Uncle Yuan

It'd be fun to try UY with Plant Control.  I'm not sure what to use for a secondary, though.  Thermal would be an odd pairing, and more bufferly than I personally like.

NOW I find out!

Tortuga

I've dabbled with creating an armored Tortuga-type character for the past 3 years on CoH (on various servers).  I12 will be my chance to make it happen!

GhostMachine

I'm tempted to use one of the new character slots to make a Golden Age version of GhostMachine, but with a few differences: the premise being that he's from a parallel world where time runs differently so that his Earth is currently in the 1940's instead of 2008. And he probably won't be a Blaster; I'm thinking Dark Armor Tanker with either Energy Melee or Dual Blades as his secondary, since they're not giving Tankers Electric Melee.

Cool.

Pretty close to EC's own backstory.  During one of the many experimental jaunts by Dr. Webb and the Portal Corps crew, he was pulled from his own time of the 40's in Paragon City into it's present.  He's been adjusting ever since.

I got some fan-fic of it somewhere.  I'll have to find it and dust it off.

That and the other dozens of half finished stories I have.

But back on topic... I have a few interesting ideas to play with considering all the new powers.  I wouldn't mind getting in on this when the new issue hits.

BlueBard

If only they'd include a proper archer's cap amongst the costume pieces, maybe I could finally get a satisfactory version of BlueBard.  I'm hoping he'll work as a Sonic/Mental blaster.  Once open beta starts I'll have a better idea of what I can get away with.

In keeping with concept, he'll have -no- true travel power (though Combat Jumping is certainly an option and I'm sure he'll have Fitness.)  He'll have to rely on various modes of transport to get around.

Figure Fan

I'd like to join in on this, seeing as how Phibby has been level 50 a while now.

I might go with something along the lines of Amphibi-Man or Leaping Lad or somesuch.

Hurm.

While this did make for a tedious team member in the past, i think there are enough veterans with the team teleport power to accomidate you.  In the past there was always THAT GUY who had to run to all the missions while the rest of us waited, but then again you could always count on BAD to be the last one in the mission door even with his travel powers.  Thus was the Atomic Snail born.

Xenolith

FF, I have a toon on Guardian that I really enjoy playing called the Amphibian (now the Awesome Amphibian).   He's a invuln/ss tanker with super leaping.  Nothing creative there, but he sort of has a Tick feel to him, and wears an aquaman-esque costume (green with that scaley pattern, orange, and yellow trim).

Back story is that genetic engineers spliced human and toad DNA to create intelligent toads, they ended up with a really dumb guy. If you go with this character, I'll mention the existance of a parallel version of him living in another "dimension".  Funny.

{Grins} I'd say I'd be mighty happy to have taxi service.

I'm not opposed to travel powers... I normally can't stand not having them... they just don't make much sense for this particular character.  I might cave and give him flight, but dunno yet.

I actually took away GeoFire's travel powers so I could build him to tank better.  He's pretty lickety-split with 3 slotted Swift :)  I'm gradually adding them back in, though.

And now you have to wait for me to set up my bots. Thus the cosmic balance continues.

Haha! That's a funny backstory.

Yeah, I considered going the Scrapper route, with martial arts and willpower, and of course leaping. Connecting the two characters would be cool. If I end up going with it, I'll let you know. Otherwise, I'm still tossing around some ideas.

ThePrelate

I don't know if this is cheesy, but all of my alts I play past 20 share an integrated theme of sorts.

I love the idea of a legacy FR. part of me wishes it were RP

Virtue - but don't say that too loud or the grinders will laugh at you...

NeoDarke

If I can get real internet, my compy up and running, and time on my account. I think as soon as I12 rolls around, I'll remake NeoDarke, again, this time as a DA/DB Tanker. DA? 'cause he's "Dark", duh. DB? 'cause I'm a sucker for Two Weapon Fighting, and it's the only Tanker set with a sword. Then I get to stalk a few of you and hit you up for a FR SG invite, or something...

I thought you loved me?!

I wouldn't have had this problem if I teamed with you guys more often... Though when I do, I tend ot be a nut job who dies to often, or looks around at all the dead teammates and goes "WTF? That killed all of you? Huh..." Heh, I seem to recall sending Bandit into a fight, coming out in one piece, and then committing on how I remember when he was squishy. :P

Figure Fan

I wanted to ask when this revival was goin' down.

I'm prepared to make a new character when everyone else does. I've been playing on quite a few good teams, but you guys are always more fun.

Let me know, yeah?

Camma

About five or six people have their "teen" versions of their characters rolled and between levels 2-6 that i know of.  Go ahead with your plan and give a shout in the FRNRF chat.

Tortuga

I've got my concept, but now I just need a name for a psi/psi blaster that's not "Mind ____" or "Psi_____" or "Brain ______", etc.  Nothing against any of those names or variations thereof, but I've seen too many of them in the last 3 days.

What's the concept behind the character?
