There is great rumbling among the DVD grapevine for fans of MARVEL....

Apparently there is news that the legal mess between FOX/Disney might finally be resolved and FINALLY will allow the animated series to be released on DVD in Season Sets in time for the release of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".

I'm desperately looking for confirmation of this news in my own sources to confirm... but it looks promising.

I certainly hope so.  That was a fantastic series and I would love to have it.

FOR REAL?! Where did you hear this?!

Oh, this has me excited! Will Spider-Man also be getting the proper DVD treatment?! Oh that would make me so freaking happy :D

Okay, I finally have that confirmation news....

QuoteLIBERATION ENTERTAINMENT INKS DEAL WITH JETIX CONSUMER PRODUCTS
TO DISTRIBUTE CLASSIC MARVEL ANIMATION CATALOGUE ON DVD

Deal covers DVD distribution for classic animated
series across multiple European territories

Liberation Entertainment Ltd has agreed a multi territory DVD deal with Jetix Consumer Products, the licensing division of leading kids entertainment company Jetix Europe, for classic Marvel Entertainment animated series.

The deal gives Liberation Entertainment exclusive DVD distribution rights for popular Marvel character based animated series including Spider-Man TAS, Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends, The Incredible Hulk TAS, X-Men TAS, The Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer TAS and Spider Woman.

Territories covered by the deal are the UK and Ireland, Benelux, Germany as well as German-speaking Austria and Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

Jay Boberg, Liberation Chairman commented: "This deal expands our relationship with Jetix and continues to build Liberation’s ongoing partnership with Marvel. Liberation has already acquired DVD distribution and television sales rights outside the US to Marvel’s new animated Wolverine and the X-Men TV series, and as a result of this deal we will be able to bring the “crown jewels” in Marvel’s animated TV series - including Spider-Man and The Hulk to new audiences, as well as long-time fans.  Aggregating these new and classic Super Hero animations will give us leverage in the marketplace to maximize sales.”

Spencer Pollard, Managing Director of Liberation Entertainment commented, “This catalogue represents a huge opportunity for Liberation and I am delighted that we have secured the distribution rights from Jetix Consumer Products. The catalogue has enormous potential – many people grew up with the original Spider-Man series as well as the rest of the catalogue and we believe it is hugely collectable, which will interest both children and adults alike”

Tina Lorenzo, Director of International Home Entertainment at Jetix Consumer Products, said: “We’re delighted to have struck the deal with Liberation for the Marvel catalogue. Many of the series covered in the deal feature some of Jetix viewers’ most popular characters and we’re certain that with Liberation distributing them, they will prove incredibly popular with fans across the countries included in the deal.”

Liberation will announce the full release schedule for the catalogue in the near future.

So, Apparently the UK and other lucky countries are getting the Season Box Sets before we do...  :(

But maybe this is just the first step before getting US rights from Jetix just in time for the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" movie in 2009... after all Liberation will be distributing "Wolverine And The X-Men" and they have DVD production offices in America too.

this is some of the best news I've heard in a while. A slight disappointment that it's not coming to America YET, but I have high hopes that it will eventually come. How could it not? God, I've been waiting for Spider-Man and X-Men to come to DVD properly for a LONG time, as have a lot of others. Once it comes to America (keep those fingers crossed!) I am soo having a cartoon-watching marathon weekend, like a true nerd, lol.

is there any more word on this news yet? I'm eagerly waiting for an update :)

Yup, I'm hoping Liberation also takes the time to go to the Amazing Friends fansite (http://www.spider-friends.com/) and actually take their advice on what to put on the season DVD sets.

and they are doing a marathon of the '90s Incredible Hulk on Friday.. the day that the new movie is released as well.

- CrimsonQuill

Previsionary

they've been showing spider-man (in its 90s blah glory) and spidey and his amazing friends for about 2-3 months now. They also show spidey in the mornings before superman. Ironman has been on the air for a good month now and Incredible hulk had a marathon last week so I won't be surprised if it joins the superhero line up soon. They just need to re-add in x-men and they'll have a pretty good superhero animation block going on. Speaking of incredible hulk, Sci-fi has been airing the live action version in mini marathons as well every day...so fans of that show, rejoice!

JeyNyce

Well FF complete 90 show season 1&2 came out on DVD as well as 1967 Spidey in the US.  What I want is Spider-man & his amazing Friends DVD

Sort of off-topic but one of the animators on the 1990s X-Men series was actually a patient of mine back when I was still living in the Philippines (the 1990s X-Men and Spider-Man cartoons were subcontracted to P.A.S.I. - Philippine Animation Studios, Inc., an umbrella group that handles outsourced 2-D/traditional animation work for US and Canadian networks).

He was suffering from vocal cord paralysis and he couldn't afford to go to a private clinic so he had to go to the woefully underfunded and under-manned government clinic I was then working in. I told him I was a fan of the characters and he even drew me a couple of sketches (which I've since lost since making the move to Canada). Nice guy. I wish there was some way they could still benefit from the continued popularity of the 1990s show.
