While I was teaming with TPE the other day, we started talking about how I'd make my forum avatar for the past several years, the Verdant Vowel, in-game.

Back when I started playing CoH, the Vowel hadn't yet been created, and I modeled my first character, Alaric 7, after my then-avatar, a guy wearing a t-shirt with a big green A. Eventually, I designed a couple of super-heroish costumes for A7, as my concept of the character grew further and further from the original idea. At around the same time, I came up with a concept I liked better for my forum avatar- the Verdant Vowel. MJB ended up designing the Vowel's appearance, with a few minor details (mostly the boots, which weren't shown in MJB's initial picture) added a little later by Glitch Girl. I entered the Vowel in one of the Omegus posting games, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. While basically a humorous character, I found that he could have his occasional serious moments, as well.

Other posters seemed to enjoy the Vowel, too, and the amount of unsolicited art based on my avatar increased noticeably- he's even made it into the FR calendar a couple of times. Still, in spite of some minor similarity in costumes (black and green outfit with a cape and a big green "A" on the chest), my CoH character Alaric 7 and the Verdant Vowel seemed to have less and less in common. Furthermore, the very concept behind the Vowel seemed impossible to duplicate in CoH.

Yesterday, I exemped A7 down to team with the Phantom Eyebrow, and we were both reminded of another picture by MJB, showing the Eyebrow and the Vowel fighting side by side. This got us talking, and soon we had come up with a way to create the Vowel in-game. As soon as we finished teaming, I went into the character editor and- viola! The Verdant Vowel found himself in the midst of Paragon City, talking his way out of all sorts of trouble.

So, a warning to those who would evily commit evil acts in the name of evil within the fair metropolis known as Paragon- the Verdant Vowel has arrived, to bring his full vowelish might to bear against all who would sully the scintillating city with acts of heinousness!

I've got to experiment to see whether or not I can come up with a reasonable facsimile of my own avatar in the game.

What's your build for VV going to be?

The Phantom Eyebrow

I noticed the new avatar pic in another thread; great to see that the Vowel is at last doing his bit to keep the streets of Paragon City pleasant and green.

Heh... My previous thoughts about the Vowel tended to focus on making him a scrapper, but I was having some trouble a) differentiating him substantially from A7, and b) coming up with a sufficiently... unique build for him. Instead, I've gone in a completely different direction (although he probably still thinks of himself as a scrapper...). The Verdant Vowel is... a Natural Mind/Sonic Controller. I've worked up macros for his various powers so they all involve him talking to his target while using the given power. Basically, he defeats his opponents with words...

See, I really want to create some macros for my characters, but I reall have no idea how to do it. The tutorials I used weren't much help.,
