Is there a way to do this? i am trying to put all the characters i have from the mods i have into my original game but i cant seem to find the hero files.

i am a complete noob by the way and only recently got this game and managed to download a few mods. Ive looked at a load of tutorials but none seem to address what i want to do.

If this is not possible can someone instruct me as to how i can get some of the characters ive downloaded into the main game as they two dont seem to have hero files in them.

At first, I thought you meant that you have HERO files in some mods (like Liberty Bay, Crisis, etc.) but you couldn't find them in the Characters screen if you started the main campaign. That would be a little odd, so let us know if that's what you meant.

It's worth noting that HERO files are also known as custom characters and these are distinct from the built-in characters that usually populate a campaign mod. Custom characters are the ones you can make in the Characters screen in the game. Their information is stored in files called HERO files and are available to every mod. The built-in characters (like Minute Man, Alchemiss, etc.) are those that are pre-made with the mod. They have a pre-designed progression of powers (when you earn XP for them, you have to level up a power to level 3 before you can buy the next power, etc.). Their information is stored in DAT files in the mod's folder and are only available to that mod. (More info on where some of the folders are - like where HERO files are stored - is in the Game FAQ.)

So, is what you mean that the built-in characters from other campaign mods aren't available in the main campaign? That would make sense since those characters are defined by the DAT files for those mods. If that's the case, there are (at least) a couple ways to do things.

First, and probably easiest, is to go the the Character screen in the mod that has the built-in character. Find that character and choose the copy function. That will create a HERO file from the character with all his powers and it will be available to all mods.

Second, you can use FFEDit to trim and merge the DAT from the mod with the character you want into the main campaign (or any other mod you want). That will create him as a built-in character in the main campaign. That is something of a more complicated process (dealing with at least the characters.dat, objects.dat, and powers.dat files and possibly others), but it has the advantage that the characters will still be built-ins and have the character progression they had in their native mod. In addition, there are some FFX advantages to built-ins (such as with state swaps), which may or may not matter depending on the character in question.

In either case, you may still have to make sure that his mesh folder is in the Custom\Art\Library\Characters path (or Data\Art\Library\Characters path) so that he has a mesh/animations/skin/etc. in all the mods. Similarly, if he has special FX or a voice pack from his "native" mod, you'll have to install that in Custom or Data to make it available to all the mods.

Anyway, maybe that helps clarify a little...

Thanks that helps alot, i was trying to just rip characters including all there info from different mods but i i think i will just use the copy technique and then add my own info and moves.

Thanks again.
