Are all the 10s I am seeing mostly hype?

Yes.  It's a good game - if you like that kind of sandbox game - but it's hardly perfect, which some game review sites seem to believe.  Any big game release these days seems to garner an instant 9.9 or 10 rating from most reviewers, which is why gaming journalism is garbage.

I'll get back to you when it comes out on PC. I've been playing a lot of San Andreas recently and I love it... it's really bad and really good at the same time kind of like a high budget mod. That's what I keep expecting from the series... lots of unecesary extras thrown in which makes it feel like the designers really care... like even when they are done they still keep coming up with ideas and implementing them until the game ships.

Talavar: that's a constant argument amongst people who cover these things. That they are giving scores like 9.7 and fans are freaking out acting like that's saying the game got a barely passing grade. Penny arcade did a cute cartoon about this which I can actually post since they didint go all obscene for once.

I've had GTA4 since release day, and while I wouldn't say it's a perfect 10 (I've encountered a couple bugs here and there), it's definitely a 9+.  It is such a huge game and I'm still enjoying playing through the storyline.  Multiplayer is a great diversion too -- when I'm about to quit after doing a few missions, or I've run up against a mission that I just can't seem to complete, I hop into multiplayer and have some destructive fun.

I'm planning on buying a new TV this summer, and once I do I'll be playing the whole game through again.
