Ghosting meshes because of what?

I used to have nifskoped meshes that doesn't ghost but when I updated my video card with its latest driver, then it started to ghost.  I mean what exactly causes ghosting?  What does a video card driver have to do with it?  It saddens me because Gren's Classic Sentinel mesh ghosts on my PC.  :(

I don't think anyone has figured out what causes the ghosting but some error in the shadow coding regarding certain meshes with the FFvT3R engine that conflicts with various graphic cards and drivers. My PC has had 3 different cards over the last 3 years and each one had that same issue which resulted in me having to shut off the shadows in the game setup menu just to avoid this problem.

And now that Irrational Games erased their own FF forum completely it's now sadly apparent that game series is now dead to them (outside of keeping the web sites up and running) and no fix or update will ever be coming our way.  :(   But I still have hopes that one day a member of our community will finally crack that issue once the engine is ever disected.. Edit: Nevermind.. I forgot about Tommy's nifskope fix and the skin partition python fix.

Umm, you are aware that a fix HAS been found thanks to the nifskope people?  And has existed for some time.  Most meshes can now be fixed to remove the ghosting, and I think someone even mentioned that they latest stuff from the project can do it automatically.  (although I may have misread that)

Pretty much, I made the comprehensive list of tutorials for a reason. :P Give it a read through and see if anything there helps you. I believe conduit also made a python script available to fix the problem as well which I shall add to the thread I linked to momentarily.

Indigo

Where can I get this python script by Conduit?

EDIT: I just changed my resolution to 800x600, disabled all shadows and no more ghosting.  Although it's sad I can't enjoy the high video settings, I guess that's what I have to bargain for if I want the meshes to work.

Changing the shadows and resolution doesnt help my game with the character shadows so I use Tommyboy's Nif scope fix which works good....mostly. Which brings me to a question I have about it.  For the most part all the meshes that I needed fixxed are fixed with it, but a few arn't totally fixed like Tommy's Skrull_tv .  The body of the mesh no longer has the repeating shadows but other parts are still there like his gun and some parts of his head.   Does anybody know how to fix those parts too?

Also I can't seem to get Conduit's skin partition python to work.   After I open PythonWin then click on the ffv3rskinpartition python file that is in the Python25/scrips folder this is all I get:

Any idea would be great.

that usually happens with pythonwin when you double click a py file which is not how you should be opening a file inside of that particular program. You actually have to click file > Open or "move" the file into the program window as conduit's directions point out.

USAgent

Thanks for the help Prev.  I'm not sure where your getting Conduit's directions from but I just got them from this thread:
http://freedomreborn.net/archive/index.php?topic=44459.0

And since that was the first time I ever done anything that has to do with Python I had no idea what to do with what file.  But now I just dragged the ffv3rskinpartition file into the opened pythonwin window and it looked like this after I ran the skrull_nif like those above direction instructed.

And it didnt work for that mesh, I could tell by looking at the errors in the python window that it probably wouldnt, I still have the couple floating ghost pieces for that mesh.

same place you did...since i did kinda link to it in the tutes thread, heh, but I have experience with the program and when I saw: "Start pythonWin, then go to the python25/scripts folder and open up ffvt3rskinpartition.py...", I automatically assumed. :P

Anyway, I haven't used the program at all and i don't have python installed anymore, so hopefully conduit will stop by this thread.

I will ask if you have all the necessary items downloaded. So, do you have all the necessary files downloaded?

USAgent

As far as I can tell I had everything downloaded. But I ended up getting ahold of Conduit and he helped me through how to run the script to fix the meshes (I was typing the mesh nif location in the wrong area).  Now it actually works pretty easy!

Thanks again
