If encouragement will cause you to skin more, then I join my voice in with the others.  That facial work is absolutely fantastic. The colours look great. It's almost a perfect skin. I'd only add a bit of shadow between the headpeice and the face, to give more depth. Still miles beyond what I could do, though.

Deaths Jester

Dude!!!  Where have ye been hiding all these times mate.  Really great work!

Gremlin

Dude, that's amazing.  I actually said this out loud upon seeing this, and I hardly ever do that.  Kudos to you, my friend!  Faces can really make the style, and yours takes the cake.

MARCELO It'S WONDERFUL!!!! I LOVE IT!!!! XD That face is O.o amazing!!!

Chimoru

Wow!  That's an amazing looking Jean!  You're very talented!  Congrats!

Hey guys  :)
Once again, thxs for all the compliments, I really appreciate it!
I have a question: I've received a couple messages asking me if I'm ever going to release this skin, and yeah, absolutely, I'd be happy to, she's all finished (since I posted the pic actually), she looks great in-game (I've played with her a lot myself) but, I don't know what the policy/rules are regarding this so I figured I'd ask first... Its been a long time since I did this, and I've moved on to other things.
I had a couple Polaris's almost good to go, and was starting to work on Psylocke and Storm....and then I started doing a Heroes-themed set of skins, I had Niki Sanders almost done (and damn, she was looking so good, I got Ali Larter down to the bone – but, I couldn't find "the perfect" heeled mesh/or skope heels myself onto the one I was working on, and I didn't want Niki/Jessica running around in flats. Call me crazy but it just didn't seem right lol), and was halfway there with Sylar, Claire and Peter... but I'm a little bit of a perfectionist freak (as you may have noticed) and I guess I just got frustrated with the mesh thing, I can't really do much other than skoping a few parts here and there...so I just got over the whole thing and I don't even have FF in my computer right now, but I do have this skin in backup somewhere, so...
Well, anyway,  like I said, it's been a long time, but I remember, I used Ink's Jean Grey mesh for this skin. I skoped the glove parts (from an Ironman mesh, if I'm not mistaken...) and the skin is all mine (except for the shoulder plates and belt – I may have tweaked the colors a lil bit to match the rest but the texture's from Ink's original – it just went great with the rest, so I didn't want to touch'em).
That's pretty much it. One problem though, I don't have a yahoo group or site or anything to put the skin to be downloaded. I guess I could just send to one of you guys that have that space available (I wouldn't mind that at all) or we'll figure something else, suggestions are always appreciated...
That's all. Take care everyone and keep'on skinning

Or you could always just create a Yahoo site.  Aren't Yahoo sites free?   I haven't ever created one but I'm told they aren't difficult.  Just a thought.

I for one am WAY stoked about seeing your great skins in game (I am especially intrigued with Polaris).  Thanks in advance for sharing!

the_ultimate_evil

release skins is no problem all you if just include a readme giving credit to the mesh maker and the parts you skoped and such

the only thing i'd be worried about is that you said the belt and shoulder pads were not yours but the standards from the original skin. thats known as kittbashing on these boards, and it's not that popular in fact a lot of skinners has went out of there way to say they do not want or allow there work to be kittbashed

i'm not sure who did the standard for that mesh but looking at the amazing talent you have displayed i don't think it would be that hard for you to skin these parts yourself

on the subject of hosting, yahoo groups are easy to create but not that friendly(basically they suck) another option is that of creating a google page and allow for around 100mb of space plus layouts that can show your images off as well

i personally look forward to seeing what else you come up with

I think most skinners of an original meshes do not have a problem with using the extras (at least this is mime as well as C6's stance). So I don't think he will have a problem with releasing it with the standard extras. But I would make sure to include the readme who the original skinner was.

qazwsx

The original skin is once more a "c6 standard skin".

catastrophe

That skin is incredible, i've never seen any first skins that good.

keep up the insanely good work!

While the female_basic file is considered off limits for kitbashing by C6, the extras are usually not. Once again include him (or anyone else who did the extras) in the readme and to be even safer PM him for permission.

marcelo

Cool. I'm on it (just wanna get this over with already lol). What about the keyframes, should I include them in the zip file or just indicate in the readme which kfs works best...? Personally, I used ItalPornstar's Jean Grey Keyframes, i found them to be just perfect for this.

The Hitman

If you're not using modified keyframes of a hexed or skoped mesh, I'd just link where you found the mesh/kfs in your readme. That's what I do.

marcelo

Thanks, guys!
I'm waiting to hear on C6 and if it all goes well I should be posting the release soon:)

Now, not that it matters anymore (since I'm no longer doing skins), but just for kicks, this is the version of Polaris - X-Factor Underground I had been working on...and to think she was almost good to go, but I couldn't skope the bodyarmor :( Here's the face (still needed to work/retouch a couple things) but basically this is more or less what she was going to end up like:

the_ultimate_evil

you faces are fantastic, how do you do them are they photoskinned

qazwsx

yeah, your work is truly one of a kind among here, looks more like what people do for morrowind or oblivion. try accusing this of having been kitbashed! and what's more you seem to have the gift. yes the gift. you see with most people, even people with the highest calibre skins, most of their female faces tend to end up looking very similar, and it doesn't help that face mesh geometry is generally identical. I mean I can't believe it but this is the same mesh as jean is it not? kudos

Outcast

XPTO

This has the same face as Jean no? sorry maybe wrong here  ;).

marcelo

Same body mesh as Jean's, yes. But like I said it wasn't finished, I'd still tweak a lil more here and there to make them like, really unique; it just, it never came to that. The face geometry does pose somewhat of a problem, but you can work around that, and the little details make all the difference in the end. In Jean's case actually, I had an updated version, IMO much better than this one here, but unfortunately I don't have any of it on backup. I was lucky I had this Jean Grey saved somewhere...

try accusing this of having been kitbashed!

i wasn't accusing anyone, i explained something that is a basic rule of the forum to a new artist, i offered help to someone who i want to see grow in this community as much as the rest. the artist in question did not take offence so why should you

now i'm not starting anything but please do not throw around posts like that

My statement was in no way a reply to your post, I was merely emphasizing the uniqueness of his work by saying it's "unaccusable" if you will. Today seems to be Misunderstanding Day :)

marcelo

None taken, absolutely. I asked for advice, which you gave me and I appreciate that enormously.   For what is worth, I don't think qazwsx meant it that way, really. It was just a compliment to me, and I appreciate that, too. Just a misunderstanding, guys! Let's go to our happy places:)
As far as kitbashing goes, I don't ever want to put myself in that position so that's why I'm asking. This is all very new to me so I want everything to run very proper and smoothly, as it should and hopefully will:)

Dr.Volt

:eek2:  Holy freakin' crud!!!!  That's amazing face work!!!!!!!  Well done, my friend!

Figure Fan

Wow! Polaris looks really good. You really have a good grasp on tonality, and it brings the faces to life.

Deaths Jester

What style of skinning ar eye using?  More or less is this via colour picking and working up from there or are ye using the dodge and burn tools for the facial work?

Hmm..both, I guess. You get the shadows right, and the midtone/highlights tool is also very helpful to give that sort of dimension.. I don't know, I start doing it and it's all goes sort of intuitively from there I think, i wouldn't know how to give like a step-by-step, it varies..
