Has anyone been able to successfully export a .nif file as an .Obj file using Nifskope? I tried to do so recently then tried to import it into 3ds Max 5 and no dice the file wasn't recognized. :banghead:

I've done it without difficulty.  Which version of NIFSkope are you using?  Did you also successfully install an OBJ importer plug-in or script?

What about the NIF importer by the same guys?

Yeah, you should be able to import the nif directly without converting it to an Obj using the Niftools.

I'm at work so I can't say which version...probably the version before the newest. And I'm pretty sure the obj plug in I have works...I've been able to import other files with no prob. Maybe I'm exporting it incorrectly? Niftools puts out a NifImporter for max? Does it work?

Sweet! Have you test it out Ren?

Aye, it does, but I rarely use it (and only for my own or IG's NIFs).  You can download the NIFTools for 3ds max here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=149157

In any case, the OBJs you are exporting from NIFSkope should be importable using 3ds max.  I am led to believe that you are either using an unreliable OBJ importer, using the wrong version for 3ds max 5, or not exporting the correct bit of the NIF (you can specify the particular NiTriShape in NIFSkope that you want to export by selecting it first and then using the "Export OBJ" function).

Yes, it works. I've used it to import 3R geometry on occasion. If only it could import the animations I'd use it more.
