Problem with mouse controls

FF (original) used to work well with 1.3 patch and XP SP2.  I have uninstalled it and only recently reinstalled the game.  Now, the mouse controls don't work properly.  I can only left click to make the hero do a melee attack, but can't use left click to move the hero to another location.  If I try to move the hero or do some other action (pickup, talk, etc) using the right click menu, the hero will simply run in big circles and then get stuck in some building or rock.  The hero continues to run in circles and does not respond to actions on the right click menu (except melee).
How do I fix this bug?  Or is this caused by XP SP3?

I have finally gotten the mouse controls to work properly.  It seems that I need to set the compatibility mode of the freedomforce.exe file to Win95 or Win98.  Win2000/WinNt mode don't work.  Probably there's some driver compatibility issue.
But now I have another problem, there is too much static in the music and the game takes a longer time to load each level.  This didn't happen before when I didn't set the compatibility mode.  How do I fix this?

Its probably an ongoing SP3 issue. I've heard that SP3 caused problems for several applications -- coupled with the whole 1.3 patch issues and it just might be too much for the game to stay stable.
