Hi, I didn't know exactly where to put this, so sorry if this should be elsewhere.

So, I've edited a mesh to the point that I like it in 3d studio max 9, and want to export it as a usable ffvttr mesh. Only problem is, apon opening the mesh w/skin in character tool, all but the smaller accessories (a collar, sunglasses, a few weapons) are missing, and there's no response to the animation I have. What am I doing wrong?

Also, can anyone point me to tutorials for 3DS for FF meshing? I can't seem to find any.

Thanks!

Im not a 3D max user, but Im guessing your are using the niftools exporter as opposed to the official irrational games ones (as they only work with versions 4 and I think 5)?

If i remember correctly, the niftools exporters will export standard static objects just fine, but when you start adding animation and physique etc, I don't think it supports FFvTR, as it was primarily designed for the elder scrolls games.

One of the meshers can probably shed more light on this, but I think that if you were trying to export an animated character mesh, you are going to have to use the irrational Exporters.

I think Goggles has hit the nail on the head. I dont use Max 9 myself so I can't be 100% sure, but what you have described ties in with his theory.

I am using the NifTools addon. Is there a way to fix this, do I need to get 3ds 4/5?

tommyboy

As far as I know, the FF and FFv3r exporters only work with Max 4 and 5.

Nergal

Actually, I figured it out. Exporting the mesh for Freedom Force and using EZ Nif Converter to transfer over to ffvttr. It worked just fine ^.^

tommyboy

Really?
Using the Nifskope Exporters in max 9?
Without access to the Irrational character tool for max to set up animations?
It'd be interesting to see that.

yell0w_lantern

Me too. I didn't think the animations could be exported even for FF1 with the current NIFtools.

Nergal

Had no problem with the animations, it was the mesh. Sorry if that was unclear.

Have you tried playing with the mesh in game...
Sometimes what works in Ctool doesn't always work in game.

This is fairly intriguing cause it would open up a lot of possibilities of not having to rely on the irrational exporters and old versions of 3Dmax. The conventional wisdom (probably based on older versions of the exporters) was that they worked in a limited capacity. If they actually can do true character exporting now, that would be a pretty big deal...relatively speaking to the size of our little community.
