City of Heroes/Villains (And any other Hero Game) Refugees

I've finally come to the realization that no matter how cool NCNorCal is, I can't officially support my gaming expenses any longer.  I have come here for suggestions.  I own both FF games, run in Vista and have not completed either one.

So...  Suggestions after I finish them both?  Suggestions for playing them?  I'm looking at this as a fresh start for me in the Hero Genre.

If you can play them in Vista (might need patches) then by all means play them both through at least once.

Then go hunt down some of the mods for FF (the 1st game) and play those.  There were a number of excellent mods out there and at least some of those should still be available somewhere.  You can start looking at  http://www.alexff.com and http://www.fundamentzero.com.  Also go look for the Marvel based mods (but I don't know where to find them anymore).  Ask in the Mods forum; someone will know.  By all means install the earlier FFX² mod.

Then, once you're tired of that and if you still have a taste for playing, go install FFX² 3.0 for FFvsTTR and play all of the mods for the sequel.  Realize that FF and FFvsTTR are essentially two different games and the mods are not compatible with each.
