SPORE!

I purchased it digitally so I've been playing it since yesterday afternoon. I've got a couple of sporecasts set up already and wouldent mind adding whatever the creative freedom reborn people put together to my game.

So who else is playing?

I'm in the Creature stage, with two Pack slots. My dude just learned to fly. I went Herbivore by accident (I wanted Omnivore, but didn't eat enough meat during amoebal), and while I was very successful early on as far as befriending species, I'm not finding that the ones post-migration respond well to my green skills (I have 2 or 3 in all the friend skills). I do the whole Simon Says thing, but nothing really comes of it.

That said, I didn't have a ton of time to play with it, so I'll likely have better luck tonight when I'm in less of a hurry.

Are the DRM restrictions really as onerous as they are being made out to be in media reports? I certainly support and respect game copyrights and such, but some of what I've read about the SecuROM copy-protection scheme seems like a dealbreaker for me.

I downloaded my copy digitally and so far there have been no inconveniences and no requests that I uninstall any "conflicting" virtual dvd rom software. I was afraid of the DRM thing too but (hopefully) it might be more of a problem for disk owners than for digital users.

Feel free to download some of my creatures or suscribe to my feed. I've got a lot of good comic book inspired creatures and then some just creative and weird ones.

I'm at the civ stage. Should hit Space by tomorrow.

Deaths Jester

All I got is the creature creator (can't use the full version due to the one time internet authorization for download) and that by itself is far too evil!  It's taken a good portion of my free time away from me...that evil little game!

Ares_God_of_War

I have it as well. Mostly I am just playing around with creatures and making dinosaurs

getting spore via electronic purchase is a nightmare....
took ages to make the purchase, when the purchase finally went through the website gave me a "sorry this operation is currently not available, sorry for any convenience" and not even an email comfirmation of my purchase,
after 30 minutes of trying to get some form of reply from ea a goggle search told me i needed the download manager, which i luckily had from the creature creator, signing into that gave me an option to download spore (but not where to download it to) it then downloaded into the smallest of my hard drives, so after 2 and a half hours of downloading and 80% decrypting, i was given the choice of redownloading to a chosen hard drive (thats right, not moving, complete redownload) or clearing space on a drive packed with essential files and restarting the decryption, currently at 5% extracting after the whole decryption mess, if it needs more space now i'm just gonna move it all to another drive and leave it running overnight -_-

My electronic purchase was quite smooth. Checked out, download fired up, I'd previously set the download location so it went to the right place... easy-peasy, I was playing within an hour or two.

Also: just "beat" Space Stage on the weekend, as much as it can be beaten. I really wish there was a way to wipe out the Grox, they're not a threat at all, but they're damned annoying. :( I keep having to run back to far-flung planets to shoo them away. It would also be nice if I could set up my own wormholes, as the travel time between ends of my empire is ridiculous. :(

Kommando

Unlike others, I went out to EB games and bought my disk instead of buying it online.  My page is http://www.spore.com/view/profile/Krimsonik

I've been playing, as well. The trouble is, I have so much fun starting new games and palying different creatures I develop that I haven't gotten very far into the Tribal stage yet (and I'm determined to play all the way through all the stages before skipping to later stages).

Anyway, my Spore page can be found here.

UnfluffyBunny

well after countless problems with instillation >_> I took it off my pc and... put it on my laptop, and everything glided through without a hitch :D
spoooore!

Loving it so far, haven't played that much because school is a pain.

Haven't been able to download yesterday's patch successfully yet. The connection with the Spore server is always lost sometime during the download- extremely annoying.

UnfluffyBunny

downloaded the patch on my laptop and it wont let me start a new game, only lets me continue my old game or use the creators, so back to installing on my pc and not going to patch till i find out why it wont work right on my laptop

Answer me this: Why, now that I've been forced to uninstall the Creature Creator to install the full game of SPORE, does the game no longer recognise the creatures I created in the Creature Creator?  The game installation seemed to assure me that, even though I was uninstalling the CC, I would be able to keep and use the creature content I generated previously.  Allow me to eliminate the basic problems first:

1. Yes, I did install SPORE (as I had installed the CC) on a hard drive other than drive C.  However, my previously created creature content was preserved (I can see the PNGs in the appropriate file folder) and resides in the proper directory (The game settings themselves indicate that screen captures and movies would be saved in another folder of that directory tree as well.).  Nevertheless, the game seems incapable of detecting those PNGs locally.

2. I registered my (legitimate, purchased from GameStop at the Prudential Center) copy of SPORE using the same SPORE account (TPBunburyist) that I used when I registered the Creature Creator.  I can search the Sporepedia for my Baktrasian Bhooramm and find it remotely--I can even visit my SPORE page in the in-game browser and see an accurate total count of my creations, past and present--but, for the life of me, I cannot get these previously created creations to show up in the "My Creations" tab in-game.

3. I have progressed from cell phase to creature phase in the game with a new creation (Baktrasian Muskophyte), and it is my understanding that one can now begin playing from that phase forward (though I could have misunderstood the documentation) in the future.  I had expected then that, if my previously created creatures weren't appearing in my "My Creations" tab during the cell phase, they might begin doing so once I reached the creature phase.  I appear to be wrong about that.

Am I simply mistaken in thinking that creatures created using the Creature Creator prior to the installation of SPORE can be played in-game?  In other words, was the pre-SPORE release Creature Creator little more than a device for EA to gather player-created NPC content to be used in individual SPORE campaigns worldwide?  For some reason, I thought I might actually have the opportunity to take my creatures out on the road some day, so to speak.

Any wisdom, no matter how obvious it might be to you, would be appreciated.  Thanks.

The creatures I created with the Creature Creator show up in my game, and in the Sporepedia under the complete listing (whatever it's called), but for some reason most don't show up if I limit it to just my creations- I have no idea why. The last few I created with the CC do show up there, though, and they are all actually in the game and fully accessable, the game just seems to think they were created by someone else with the same screen name or something.

Nice, I get my games there, although I got spore on the EA store (and everything else on steam or impulse). My experience is that my creatures are in the game under my name. Check if you still have a folder with all the images you accumulated prior... in my case everything I created and downloaded showed up BUT it did not put my creatures in the "my creations" tab, just my new stuff. Still you can choose any creature to start at any phase so you should be cool, worse comes to worse just download your own creatures from the sporepedia. I might track your stuff down too, I love seeing freedom reborn creatures roaming around (already encountered some from Valandar and Spud, no luck on unfluffy or kommando yet...)

EDIT: BTW please suscribe to my MAGIC THE GATHERING sporecast... it has some of my best creations (very accurately based on card art) and some nice stuff I have tracked down.

I read the Lawsuit.... seems very strong.... and besides.... this SecuRom is punishing those who own the game legally... pirate copies of the game are free from it... so... what did they really accomplish here? increases piracy? drive customers away?
