Howdy guys, some of you may remember me posting a while back that I was working on an abstract for a English conference in Orlando. Well, as I mentioned in that thread, I got accepted, and all of a sudden I found myself starring my departure date in the face! I'm leaving this coming Wednesday, and I was wondering if we've got any Orlando natives hanging around the forums who could give me some directions. The conference is in the airport Marriot, and I was hoping someone could tell me where I might find a decent meal on the cheap around there?
On another note, check out the title of this paper being presented at the conference:
But We're All Stealing Anyway: Plagiarism in Fandom – Sanctions, Shunning, and Social Control
Eden Lee Lackner
Independent Scholar
Awesome, man! Sounds like it'll be a blast. Also, you should show me that paper sometime. ^_^
P.S. - Your middle name is my first name.
Thanks Grem, I'm looking forward to it! I'll send the abstract your way. I'm afraid that the paper whose title I posted above isn't mine, I just thought that the title would be interesting to people in this community. Mine is entitled "Redemptive Heroism in Astro City."
His middle name is my first name too! haha! EDIT: Ninja'ed
I went to Orlando many years ago and I remember that it seemed that no one actually lived there. It's just a big tourist trap.
I have family in Orlando, but I couldn't tell you where to go. I can tell you the comic stores are pretty iffy there, but maybe I didn't ever find a good one? Oh, Universal over Disney, if you were wondering. The Hulk rollercoaster is awesome.

Disney has something out there?
When did that happen?
All I remember about visiting florida was heat that weighed more than i did....

Debateable. If you want an experience, you go to disney. If you want rides, you go to universal. Let's put it this way, if you go to disney world and don't have a good time you did something wrong. Why? Simply because if something is wrong, tell a personel member and they will fix it asap. And yes, the hulk coaster is awesome. A tip though. If you are going with a group(or by yourself either way), at universal it bennefits to utilize the single rider lines. Less wait and a faster ride experience. If you would like more of my oppinion, please ask. I love both of these places(even though i am drawn to disney with the roots of my upbringing) and know lots about them that many people might not.
Well, I've been to both Disney and Universal before, and had a good time at both places. I'm not going to either this trip because of time constraints, however.
So... no Hulk rollercoaster for you this time then...?
Well have a good trip BG and all the best with the talk!
Good luck and have fun, Benton!
I hope you enjoy Flo, Benton.

No, problem! Try to enjoy yourself either way, and if you do eventually need any help just give me a shout!
Thanks for the well wishes guys! I just got back from the conference, and I had a FANTASTIC time (no pun intended). It was great, and I met some of the coolest people I've ever come across. Three days of fascinating conversation and equally fascinating papers, I couldn't be happier!
Did it look to you as if no one actually lived in Orlando? haha! I found the convention center to be nothing more than a tourist trap....and it looked that way throughout the whole city despite what people have said.
Well, the conference was held in our hotel, and being so limited on time I didn't see much of the city. I did discover something though, the Tolkien people in academia are WAY cooler than the strictly comic book people. I don't know quite what it is, but it's there.
