QuoteThe Conficker Worm: April Fool's Joke or Unthinkable Disaster?
By John Markoff
The Conficker worm is scheduled to activate on April 1, and the unanswered question is: Will it prove to be the world's biggest April Fool's joke or is it the information age equivalent of Herman Kahn's legendary 1962 treatise about nuclear war, "Thinking About the Unthinkable"?

I don't think it's a joke. If someone made a virius this powerful I'm pretty sure they're going to try and use it.
The better question is what are they going to use it for?
Never heard of it, nor do I expect to.
If there were a major threat, pretty much all major AV companies, not to mention Microsoft, would be issuing statements, patches, warnings. None of that is happening, ergo, non-threat.
I remember seeing something about it online this week, but don't remember what. Maybe I'll look into it a little more at work tomorrow.
A bit of googling later reveals that it is an actual virus, and possibly an actual threat.
But one various AV progs can deal with.
So I'm still not terribly concerned. Yet.
Who cares if my computer gets messed up? I'll just buy a new one with the cash I'm getting from prince naobi$freeviagra when he come to my country of united State of ameri ca.
Its' been out for ages :P
Keep running AVG, NoScript and not opening attachments and you'll be fine
Um...if this WAS real, I'd be so impressed by the ingenuity and scale of it. I think it's kind of cool. Albeit in a horrible way. Like the Death Star.
