Title: Best mod
Post by: zeteste on October 22, 2009, 03:05:36 AM
Hello, friends,

I just played Strangers (very very cool mod, better story than the main FF campaign) and am finishing the Navigator.

Does anyone have a suggestion of a good mod for me to try out?

(Too bad there isn't Strangers 2... )

Welcome aboard!
Since you're playing  :ff: I would suggest the DC Comics Mod. It's a fun, complete campaign with a lot of heroes. Most of the Mods I played are for  :ffvstr:, so It's my only suggestion for now.

I played almost every mod for both games, and even though there are alot of great ones, The Great Hunt mod is the best.  Its a cross universe mod (Freedom Force, Marvel, DC, others), it has good voice acting- even George Ledoux who voices many characters in the Freedom Force games lends his voice to a few characters for this mod.

You have excellent taste, Zeteste ;)

I would recommend a follow up of either Suicide Squad or Metal Storm, both of which are listed in the sticky thread at the top of this forum.

Metal Storm is another very cool original mod.

Suicide Squad shares the distinction with the Strangers of being very demanding in places. Whereas I gave you cosmic power and pitted you against even more cosmic power, Suicide Squad tends to give you low key characters and place them in situations you have to think your way out of. I had a lot of fun with it.

This is usually my go to answer. Original characters, nice storyline, some nice coding tricks... Wickerman rocked it. :P. But honestly, FF1 had a nice selection of mods and the majority of them are worth the playage; and with so many mods out there for both games, you should give as many as you can a try. However, I am going to pimp out my fellow FRPer, Lude (and his co-modder Jand), and suggest Herocity if you want to test your own hero-making skills on some pretty tough missions.

Okay, just followed Dr Mike's suggestion and tried Suicide Squad.

One of the first impressions was that that was a helluva comic book. As I played the mod, I got myself remembering some of the stories... That was a very cool concept for a team of heroes. Damn, how I loved comics at the turning of the 80s to the 90s... And how I started hating superhero comics after the Image plague spread around the pages, keeping stories aside for the sake of those "booby-enhanced-armored-muscled" fashion...

But I digress...

As for the SS mod, I share Mike's opinion: some of the missions (specially the last one) could only be won after I thought a little about putting the heroes to cooperate.

Loved the soundtrack... What can best fighting Psycho Pirate hearing Psycho Killer?

Now I will move to Metal Storm, but before I go there, one question: is there a thread or a place here where I can write down a quick but a little more comprehensive review of the mods I play? I would like to leave a bit more of a contribution.

Nope. The old "Mod Review Thread," which I believe was started by Catwho on one of the lost versions of FR, is no longer around. I suppose you could re-purpose this thread or make a new one. Decisions, decisions.
