What's up everyone? My name is Rebekka. I'm from Chicago. I'm new to the forum and just wanted to say hi.. I hope I posted this in the right section.
Sure it's as good a section as any. Welcome to the forums. So you finding this place here because of Steam or something else.
Welcome aboard! There are several Chicagoans (and former Chicagoans, myself among them) here at FR. Have fun discussing all sorts of things, including comics, movies, and games, particularly a little game called Freedom Force. :)
Actually, Stumpy doesn't really count as a Chicagoan, as he's from Counter-Earth Chicago. (Or is it Earth-2 Chicago? I always get them confused.)
But, yeah, welcome aboard, Rebekka!
That's a bot.
He could be a real guy named Rebekka who is new to this forum and doesn't feel the need to mention anything about Freedom Force but just that he's from Chicago and just really wants to know 'what's up guys' so much so that he is now resorting to asking on unrelated forums in his welcome topic, his custom title, and in the personal website field. But perhaps if that's the case, I should think he'd want to check if there's a forum here (http://www.prostate.com/).
*chuckle* Fair BWPS.

What is the point of something like this?

Probably to harvest as much personal data off the forums as possible, I would imagine. I didn't catch what BWPS spotted, but I've seen enough now to convince me that's not a real person.
Might go something like this... depends on how sophisticated the bot is...
The bot naturally would have to register in order to post and by posting it gets folks to respond. (Generally speaking, folks who don't post are 'invisible'.) Then it can read their signatures, profiles, etc for any identifiable information. That might even include noting the location where images are posted from, such as avatars. With enough digging, they might score a spammable email address.
I'm not real worried because I'm the paranoid sort that doesn't normally put any really identifiable information out for public view.
I figured it was a bot, but was enjoying watching how ridiculously polite and friendly everyone was.
We seriously are too nice....
So the makers of this bot achieved a recorded collection of people who are from "behind you"?
Its next post was likely:
What's up guys? My credit card with number 5555 7523 0023 expires 1/2010, anyone else has any similar problems or would like to buy cheapest viagra on the net?
Or, maybe she knows an African dictator that needs to find an American bank account to hide his money in.

Ha!
Yep, a bot registered under a series of other names as well. All IP banned now.
It was nice meeting you, Rebekka...Bye now.
Dana :P
