Seeing as how I'm a kittbashing ambiguously foreborn and I have a lot of skopes that aren't released because I want them to have a skin I'm going to try to actually skin some of my skopes...
I'm starting with the WIP Umen since they are black and white and should be easy. I'm using the AIM_rifle skin Court as a reference and have been airbrushing on solid black trying to give a leather/plastic look. I haven't messed with the legs much yet and I'm having problems getting the glass panel to look right but I think I did a decent job on the backpack and arms.
Any tips or critiques is appreciated.

Seriously, you're like Outcast(FR member) v2...hiding your talent from us.
Thanks for thinking i have talent Murs.
Area34, I've seen the kitbash skins that you do and I think they're pretty good. I think you've got a good eye and judgement on how to make skins look better. Yes. Based on those, i've always thought you could have made great looking skins by yourself if you so wanted. :)
So far, I really like how you did the cables on the backpack as well as the lens on the helmet. Great work.
Thanks for the kind words. For the most part I kittbash faces and this doesn't have a face so it helps. I will say though I owe a huge debt to Courts work since it's his texturing style I'm trying to ape with this.

Legs now done but still need the feet... I'm still experimenting with the glass face. In the bottom pic is where I tried doing a fogged face behind the glass. It looks fine from straight on angles but anything else and it looks like a picture flat against the plate.
Leaps and bounds man, leaps and bounds!
can't wait for you to release this guy!
I added more whites to the legs- darkened the backback and I'm still playing with the face but I did finish the flamethrower variants armor so I'm nearly finished with him... I'm hoping BlkCas can get the mouth tube done then it's just tweeks.

DOH! I just noticed that the armor variant didn't have the updated legs... SO imagine more whites :D
Ok, Aside from the one tube the UMEN are done. I decided to scrap the face in the glass since it only looked right at some angles. My questions to everyone is how shiny should they be?

They really do look great.
Fantastic work man, truly stellar
Prev wanted to use my Hellfire skope with his holiday mod but I skinned it on top of courts work so it was a no-no. I promised to get to making a legal skin and then the UMen sidetracked me... So sticking with skinning people with no faces.-

It's a start of the base. I know from seeing Murs' amazing base building that I need to do more tweeking to the colors to make it look more realistic but I'm trying to get the skeleton of the highlights before I go in there and really define everything.
Nice job. I can see more cool skins in your future.
That's the plan Pod. If I can get a couple bases done I can use my kittbashing skills to kittbash my own stuff. :D

Finished?
I went ahead and made two versions. Rifle Soldier and Pistol soldier. I think I went a little to far on the face so any input would be great. I just wish I could get the recessed mouth... (FH sent me a nose for the skope but it just doesn't look right without the mouth (but thanks for the nif I'm sure I'll use it eventually).
ok...I don't want to start something huge here but this base looks awfully familiar to me. It honestly looks like you just "traced" over my work and then added to it...or you simply just modified one of my skins.

I didn't do it on top of your skin but I did have some of your skins (one of your old bases and cyclops) on my other monitor for a reference. They are similar but different. I'm sure you can see that your work is better. I airbrush and smudge where I think your stuff is more precise. If you want I can post the a jpg of the male_basic so you can see.
Regardless of how it was done...it's too similar really. This seems like a kitbashing work around to me.
"I can't use so and so's work...so I'll just copy his/her work as close as I can get it...and I'm good!"
It deuniques(is that a word?) my work and basically pegs you as a "Similar6". I'm not against people using my stuff as a reference..but add some of your own style in there.
Doh. I was already queing this up-

I think it's clear that I didn't trace your work but I did use it as a reference. I do hope no offense was taken(I am one your biggest fans). I'm just trying to make a base that I can work off of. I'll scrap the psd but is it possible that I can still release the Hellfire guy just so he's done and I can move on?
Area... I took your base image and laid it over the C6 one to the right... Even giving you the benefit of the doubt, 90% of the muscles on your base do not differ significantly from those on C6's, either in size(not counting the fact that you extended it out further with the base blue.) shape, or position. The ONE spot with significant difference is the diaphram. It is clear to me you traced it, and I have proof should you wish to contest that fact. I understand you want C6's base... hell, half the guys here want it. But don't try to con us, we WILL see through it.
Now, my suggestion is this: pull up the bases from several different skinners (C6's, AA's, mine, Murs', the ones on the base skin group, etc.) Then compare them all on MB... get a general sense of how the muscles are placed, decide what you think looks best, etc. Then, you start on your own base. Don't copy anyone's work, at best eyeball the general shape of whatever muscle and muck around until it looks right.
I wanted to clarify my last post a bit because I wrote it in my irritation, and while that anger is justified(though maybe not explained well), I don't want it discouraging you from skinning.
You have talent Area, that's pretty clear to most of us here. You took a look at C6's old leather techniques and were able to take them to newer levels and adapt them toward what you wanted. You also clearly have the nescessary skills to do your own base, something even vets like pod and tue are reluctant to do (not that they can't mind... ) And yet instead of going your own way, in the same way AA has, you are bound and determined to hide in C6's shadow (and in doing so unintentionally undermining what makes C6 unique in the first place).
I idolize C6 myself. In terms of technical skill alone (not to mention his astounding ability to do hundreds of skins in the same ammount of time as I can do one :banghead:), he's been the head of the pack even since I've known him. In some ways, I'm even jealous of that, even now that I'm more or less mainly a mesher. But if he were to offer me his base right now, I wouldn't take it, nor would most of the skinners here. By holding his base back, C6 has forced us to take our own paths... And I think in the long term, it benefited both us and the community.
(Ok, on a computer now, heh)
I know your main reasoning behind trying to duplicate C6's base is so that your skins will fit with his. But I've never had any problem mixing up AA's newer skins or mine with his: the main issue is not exactly how the muscles fit, it's the general color use. Most of the more modern skins have a much brighter and cleaner color scheme, which is why as much as I wish they would, I can't use C6's older skins with his newer ones. You could put arm muscles on legs and leg muscles on arms, and as long as you had the appropriate color usage, it'd look fine.
I've not had time to get on the net till today so Im not trying to duck any conversations. If this gets a little rambly I apologize. My two year old has to much energy right now...
To start with, I totally get why C6 says what he says and have no problem with it. In high school I was constantly given dren for drawing like Jim Lee. College I went from Larsen to Miller- nowadays I'm more of an Ottley. I've always been adept at mimicking things. If I had an art style it would be whatever I'm into at the time. So catching flack for being to similar to the ref is nothing new to me and he has every right to complain about it. The similar6 line though I think is a little harsh since most people here use his old bases already and can have that title applied to them as well (that's not a dig, I suck at faces- any thing I would do that needed a face or anything I needed help with I run to his bases too.)
As to this whole thing. Any one whose seen my skopes in the hex thread knows I take the skin from whatever the mesh was and use it as a "base" and do my stuff on top and it but it's not releasable that way so I was just trying to get a base I could use. The only reason I am/was doing a base myself was that the older released bases don't have the same level of tone and color that I do and to make it match would be more work than me just doing my own take on a base(which I guess was too good a take.) I'm not tying to be the next C6 or AA or anything. I'm just trying to give some newer stuff to the community.
Not sure how to do this. This is a Hex and a skin. So for now I'm putting it in both threads..

I'm still tweeking the colors...
Blue Beetle finished unless anyone has any critiques.
Made with the base Murs has given to me to run free with and with Courts smile base for the face.
Very cool...nice work on the costume lines (although I might thicken the band on the leg to match the one on his arm)...really solid colors....great job. Keep at it Area.
Very nice Area. Like Cas said, the colors are excellent.
Taking BLk's advice but flipping it, I thinned out the arm bands rather than the legs to match and I've toned down the eye goggles some..
Cool...don't "tone" down the goggles though....they look cool like that. ;)
The goggles are incredibly shiny and is that C6's face work?
It's his new face base smudged and recolored with with a smile based off his old Aquaman. If I've veered to close I can go back and do some changes.
Hey that's up to you man, all I know is you got a stern talking to by C-6 about his work.
Yeah, your choice, but be careful. We know you are a good guy! :D And besides tensions have been on there annual high lately. Good luck.
I've been MIA from my comp (I live in Indianapolis- the towns been busy) so I haven't gotten to skin'n but when I get time later I'm going to redo the face altogether since it is close enough to be noticeable.
I just wish I knew TUE was doing a BB. I would have done something else...

Taking a break from Cassandra Nova...
Since seeing as TUE is doing a Blue Beetle I went and put my BB on the back burner- So on to the next guy on my queue...
Daredevil's on and of again schizo bad guy. Melvin Potter.
He's been colored both as turquoise and a straight metal color in the comics, so I did both.
Looks great
DD goodness, i love it!
It looks good and I'm really excited to see this.
However, Gladiator is normally portrayed as a "big guy" so I think Tomato's Male_Football might have a better body type for this guy.
Whatever you decide, I'm glad you are taclking this project.
Gladiator, sweet! Good to see ol' Melvin Potter getting some love.
Yeah, I know Maleev and Lark always had him as a hulking middle aged man but the boots won't work with any other body type so I'm inda stuck. I did make him taller so he's more of a Miller era version though.
Modern and classic style. I redid the belt since most times it's cloth instead of the chainmail.
love it when you guys do the CLASSIC characters!
Great Gladiator, Area. Nice to see someone tackle this character.
I've had a couple people say I should finish the Beetle skin. He was pretty much done but seeing as how Yellow Lantern's Beetle is the one TUE is using with his skin and Court newest version is with it I decided to move my skin to it but I had to redo some parts. His face (since now his eyes are more noticeable and the goggles are different), and his belt/holster/buckle combo. I'm probably going to have a hexed version of the nif(since he has two extra parts on his arms) that is alpha enabled so people can have the normal version and my version selectable on the same character.
I haven't skinned the gun yet. I wasn't sure if I had to. Courts version that comes with the mesh is awesome and I know when people use some weapons they don't bother doing new skins...
Goggles look 10 times better! Fantastic work!
It looks great man. Awesome job with the goggles. :panice
Very...very cool...Area. Bang up job.
hmmm... Great work on this, I'm loving the goggles... pulling off glass is not easy in FF, but you did a great job here. I do have a few issues though, which have been nagging at me. Please don't take this personally, I'm just as bad to everyone (ask Pod and TUE, heh)
The first thing that nags at me is the dark blue... it's pretty flat man. The light blue areas have this nice pop from the highlights, which is noticeably absent from the darker blues. You almost have the opposite problem with the blacks... You have this strong gray highlight on the black areas (it's worst mainly on the MB body, it looks fine on the belt and holster). Because the black is more of a detail in this case, you're almost better off either removing the highlight entirely or, better yet, making it much more subtle. I'd also advise either darkening some of the edges (just the lower edges or both top and bottom, use your own judgment) or shadowing the area around the black... something to make the black areas not blend with the blue.
Really nice.
Yeah looks fantastic
Taking Tomato's suggestions-
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/Area34/Untitled-1-60.jpg)
New layer of highlights for the dark fabric and changed the piping.
And this is what I was working on until I saw Tomato's advice.
Built using Murs's body structure instead of Courts.
Well I'm out for till tomorrow so feel free to leave any more suggestions for me to get to later.
Very cool Area. Huge improvements on BB. My only suggestion is to skin MORE!
Blue Beetle=Perfect now, or at least from what I can tell. I make no claims toward being the ultimate skin critic, but I don't see anything off on it.
As for the Hellfire Club minion, I have a minor issue with the reds. It looks as though you did the highlights over a flat red, which is fine except that there are large spaces that are just flat (the most noticeable area is right under the pecs). I'd suggest just adding a mild shadow layer to help give some more definition.
I think the red's are coming out flat looking because the red stripes are a duplicated and hued version of the dark blue body skin. The blue is so shadowed that the reds didn't have the same or a lot of dithering when it was shifted. I'll add a layer to the chest but I think the hands and feet will look over rendered if I do much more to it.
Edited to add-

Did tweeks to the reds.
Damn Area34 your the Man - Always wanted The Gladiator mesh - skin & this is beyond my expectations
Thanks- I went ahead and released the Gladiator skope even though I don't think it's as good as my Blue Beetle. The TommyBoy parts gave me problems (Boots that wouldn't fit, the shoulder spikes wire frame is so small you can really do any details, ect) and as pointed out earlier current Melvin is an old chubby guy. I'm taking the skin and building a new Gladiator.

Tomato's Football body with different Tommy pieces. I'm not sure what I'm going to use for spikes yet and I haven't touch the REFl yet so it's all shiny.
Wow...thats too funny! Great job Area. Maybe smooth out those abs though. :P ;)
That's cool! If you release it, that's the one I'll use. :)
Holy fat abdominals, Batman!
That is funny, but when did Potter become fat?

Currently Melvin is not chubby.
Read Daredevil #96 to #98 of the most recent run.
And he certainly looks nothing like that body type. I modeled him as 6.6 to 7 foot, which he is, and a larger, more muscular than male_basic build, which he is.
What he is not, is Kingpin, Frogman or Volstagg.
Oh, and my mesh parts? The boots fit
my mesh, which they are made for, and the shoulder spikes' wiremap needs no details because the spikes
have no details in any of the 30 plus comics I based him off.
Male football isn't fat, is it?
I think it just looks stocky, which he is, or was that last time I read Daredevil. I think an adjustment to the skin would correct that. There shouldn't be as much detail in the stomach.
Ow i didn't know you made a Gladiator mesh Tommyboy or I just forgot - I like' em all!
Y'know...he reminds me of "Bennett" from the Schwarzenegger classic..."Commando". :P
I wasn't meaning to dis your work Tommy. As I said before, your mesh is a perfect classic Gladiator. The current gladiator though is bulkier like an old athlete, I agree the football body right now looks too fat. I'm hoping just it's because I haven't done anything to the skin and maybe the belt gives the wrong effect. If he still comes out look more chub than just stocky I'm not going to finish it.
And what I meant by the boots giving me problems is that I couldn't use them on any other body types not that they weren't good.

Yes, I thought that you weren't criticizing the boots or anything else, just that you were pointing out the problems of skoping a new version. I just wanted to point out that it wasn't a case of the boots not working right on my mesh, and why I put no skinnable detail into the shoulder spikes.
Overall, I made my mesh quickly, as is often my habit, so there is definitely plenty of room for improvement. Also room for other "versions" of him, like the tubbier one that Bendis/Maleev showed, I guess. It's not the picture I get in my head for The Gladiator, but it probably is for people who never read the older comics.
Yeah, I'm a Miller era DD fan so to me Classic Gladiator is what I think of when see him in my head.
Skinning question now. I'm working on a guy who has hair so I'm having to do something I'm not to confident with. Right now it's at three layers for the texture. Should I go for a fourth of darker or does this look right?

A Pyro Pack. I've skoped an all in one that will have four versions of the newly zombified evil mutant. Above is the Byrne era first appearance and the freedom force variant. I still have to do the version he wore most before he died and the Byrne era variant. I'm probably not going to bother with his current zombie look...
The arms look the way they do because I added smoke fx from the hoses... or fire if you want...
It looks good.. I really like the hair the way it is, actually. I noticed there are no highlights yet and the yellow looks like it's a bit dull. Brighten them up a bit!
Now that I see the hair zoomed out it looks good. Especially on pyro. It has a fiery-magma look to it. Well done Area :)
LUV IT!!!!!
Now that's cool.....err i mean hot....uh..superb job on Pyro. :kingbethumbup
LP- Your right about the highlights. He looked to shiny and not cloth like while I was doing him at my work computer so I toned it down. Now here at home I can see how I pretty much made the highlights disappear. I think I'll do a new layer instead of trying to slider my old one again.
Kickass Pyro Area34! You've really come into your own!
Ok, taking LP's advice I upped the yellow levels. I also had to soften the highlights to kill the shinny plastic look but I don't think it looks flat. I also upped the orange in the classic look to add to the difference.

Thanks Dm, it helps that I'm avoiding things that I think will be to hard...
I think at this point a X-men fan can figure out what team I'm doing...
Everything is pretty much done with Stonewall. It's Murs' base (as always) and I used Courts grim face to start with and then played with it a bunch to make it look like an old man. I'm not sure if the stash looks good (it's hard to do hair that small) but I really like how the belt came out.
I saw the title and thought someone finally did a Secret Warriors skin. You tricked me!
Anyways, looks good. The belt came out especially nice. Maybe add some shading on the purple where the yellow overlaps it to give it some depth. Keep up the good work Area.
I like this.. are you going to skin Silver Sabre and Crimson Commando, too?
I also want to echo Murs' suggestion. Maybe instead of using bright seams for the tips of the yellow section, try a dark seam.
I'm building a Crimson Commando skope right now and I have a nearly finished Sabre skope (just need to find straps to hang from his goggles.) The plan is to do all of the original Freedom Force.
I flipped the seams on Stonewall. With Sabre I went with a different base. He looked wrong when he was muscular. I still need to do the logo but other than that I think I'm going to keep him pretty flat.
awesome skins especially pyro
Waiting for the wife to finish dinner...
I changed the cuffs. The double rolled effect didn't look right to me. Greyed the goggles and browned the straps since it's that way in his first appearance. And the logo... I did the best I could, that logo makes no sense it has speed lines. How do you stitch speed lines? I treated it like a weird patch.
Very cool Area. Excellent work on the mask/helmet thing.
Maybe don't go with the "skinned-on" belt....give him a real one. The wrinkles on the mask are excellent. The face looks good but I'd make the mouth a little more defined. To me it kinda looks loke another wrinkle. ;) :P
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/Area34/Untitled-1-69.jpg)
I added some highlights and more detail to face and added a skoped belt. I originally ditched the 3d belt because I wanted him to stay skinny looking.
Dude that looks really good.
I like it! Very smooth and clean.
Great work on Stonewall and Sabre, Area. I think Sabre's face turned out pretty good.
Thanks. I'm trying my best to customize each face so it's not blatantly the same base... and on that note-
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/Area34/Untitled-1-70.jpg)
The skope has been a thrall so I haven't finished all of him yet. I've spent most of my time doing the face so far though. That is the Courts new face base that I smudged to death and releveled before I started adding wrinkles and details. Before someone says anything, I've done that scarf three times now and it always comes out looking similar to Courts... the shape of the object just forces you to have wrinkles converge in the tip but at least the knot/ties look completely different. I'm heading home so I had to stop for the day but I'm probably going to add some sideburns to head- but other than that his face should be done?
Spoiler
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/Area34/Untitled-1-71.jpg)
I added shadow and hair to the face and fixed the weird red tint around his mouth. I just need to finalize the keyframes for the trio and if there are any suggestions for touch ups I'll do them but other than that I think the old man team is ready to be released.
very cool Area
Very cool Area! Great skin...the only issue I have has to do with the mesh...Syn's Warpath mesh drives me crazy. No offense to Syn...his meshes are really fantastic...but the he made the shoulders on that mesh TOO broad for my taste. It's why I always end up using Grens Demon_JM mesh instead...just keeps the body shape better. Just my opinion. ;)
It's not even the shoulders that bug me about that skope (he's been drawn that way before), It's the idle animations. Other than the knife pose, his body is very stiff. I went with that since he's supposed to be old and skinny but if you thinks it's worth it I'll skope on demon and see how it looks.

Well, I'm ready to release the three old men and the Hellfire goons. I'm just needing more input on which version of Commando people will want.

I like both versions of Crimson Commando too.. ugh.. decisions, decisions...
Honestly, I'd include both character nifs and let us choose our own preference. I like the Demon_JM version but like Murs said the Warpath skope gives him that lanky look that fits with that version of the character.
And I'm looking forward to kicking some Hellfire Goon butt in the rumble room.

I agree I like the Demon_JM version too, please release soon, I need a Crimson Comando for my game.
I have a thing for characters that are not clear-cut villains. The Shocker, for instance, is one of the most pragmatic bad guys I've ever seen in a comic book, and even though he could be considered a C-lister, I like him.
Pyro is one of those characters. He's not a complete criminal. He even died in a heroic way years ago. And he's Australian, which is always cool. Your Pyro work is fantastic, very detailed. And I've never seen some of those costumes before.
The other Freedom Force members came out great too. I personally prefer the second Crimson Commando.
Since there is a a sudden interest in these guys I'll go ahead and release them before I finish the whole squad. I need to do the readme for the hex's and then I'll be able to upload the old men and the Helllfire goons (Pyro still has one outfit left to finish before he's done). I'll include both versions of Crimson. I think the fact I started with the Syn/Ink one first has made me biased to the skinnier one.
I love Marvel's Freedom Force cast - They all turned out well with Crimson being my Fav

Alright- This guy was started back when I was doing my whole Courtnall-lite time. I've since redid chunks of him to make it more me but I wanted it to still look similar to Courts awesome Vindicator skin(since it's the previous iteration). If Court thinks this is to close to his style I'll not release it.
That looks fantastic! Good job.
I'll agree with Murs, it looks awesome. And even if Court isn't ok with it I'm sure you could remake it just as well with Murs' base.
-Thanks Murs, I'm just trying to keep up with you.
Pod- Yeah, I have all the layers split where I can swap things around easy but I'd rather not have to, y'know? When I tweaked the base for this I did it freehand with nothing as a reference so it would be more different. I think the only place where the musculature is similar now is the abs but that's just because there is only so many ways to do abs in white.
Now back to Holocaust.... This guy is so far out my style it is killing me.
Taking a break from Holocaust with his first 616 kill...

Rusty Collins aka the awful name Firefist.
He's a little bulkier than I like but to have the pants I had to use Ren's Cap and I wish the hairs bangs were just a bit longer in front... I skoped in fire FX's also.
I'm not sure if I should go for a more orangish hue to the shadows on the yellows...
He looks great but I really think you should move him to a thinner mesh, maybe even a teen one. There are other options for baggy pants.
Happy to see Rusty skinned. I liked him when I was reading the Essential X-Factor.
That's a very well-skinned Rusty, area34. But I must agree with Pod here: maybe a thinner mesh would do wonders for the character. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste, because this is an excellent work indeed.
Hey there's no debate on it I agree with both of you. Rusty should be skinny. I used the Cap body like I said for the pants but I'll refine the skope. I might use Pods MVP skope and see how it looks. I went ahead and posted him WIP anyways just to get any critiques on the skin. The wife says the face looks off and I wasn't sure (She also says the outfit looks like something a dancer would wear in a bad 80's music video) and since changing the skope means the skin needs to be played with I was wanting to know what looked wonky (I know I want to redo the boots since my attempt at apeing C6's leather boots was a failure.)
Spoiler
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/Area34/Untitled-1-75.jpg)
I tried out the MVP and Teen meshes and he just looked to skinny. He was always older than the New Mutants. He was a navy(?) man when he first appeared so I went with a skinny adult mesh. Luckily, the texture I did on the pants give the impression that they are like the Cap pants.
Edited to add-
I know I said I wasn't going to do his other outfits but this one is an easy one since I have all the parts from my original skin to use. Question to those who remember the outfit (my books are in storage). Is this suit shiny and metallic? Comicvine only has one pic of the costume and I can't tell.

I think I'm finished with Rust. I went ahead and gave him a little bit of a gold shine until someone tells me otherwise.
Unless anyone has any suggestions I'll move on to another.
This is really impressive, Area. I like your iteration of Rusty.. it makes me want to finish up Skids.
Now that you mention it the boots are kinda wonky. The colours is too bloby if that makes anything. Maybe try something more smooth.
I don't recognize the second costume. Looks good though.
I've played with the boots more. I mostly added some brighter red lines to make it look more like cloth folds. If I have time tonight I'll finish up Pyro and release two fire guys this weekend.
@Pod - I think he wore the gold outfit during his brainwashed MLF days (not to be confused with his brainwashed Acolyte days). I was never a big original X-Force fan so I'm not sure. The few pics I've seen of it look like Panoshian back when he was trying to be Liefield.
@LP - I try not to make request so if I ever do they'll hold more weight but I would definitely be down for a LP Skids. I might have to hunt for a Artie and Leech...

I believe a skin for Leech and Artie were made awhile back using the Billy Batson mesh that Renegade made. I think I have them buried on my backup discs that I burned before the great virus attack that wiped out my old hard drives.

I think this bulkier is ok; sometime he has been saw as this:

Just, maybe, you should change is coloran and boot's tall.
There's a hair from Vertex that could be perfect... it was in one of his male_basic_vx
@CQ - If you have an Artie and a Leech please send them my way. If I can build the X-Terminators that would be sweet.
@Mig - Yeah. The only reason I went with the hair I did was because of his weird headpiece. Finding hair that only pops out the top of his head is very limiting. If the people prefer a headwearless version with hair I can do it pretty easy and after seeing the pic, I see the pants above the belt look that I didn't do because it's so weird but should I do it anyways?

I prefer the first Rusty you previewed. I never thought of Rusty as a small guy.
My first female skin. I've played with her face a lot trying to make her more unique. Originally I tried to do the costume similar to how AA does his Super-Girls (BTW the SuperGirl Returns zip is currupt) but it always came out to busy and to bulky/manely. How he does it I don't know. I'm going to need more practice to be able to do women and make them look less muscular.
Like I said in the other topic, they're great. Yes, Titan is more impressive, but MG is great too.
Congratulations and thanks for the help!
I'm looking forward to get them!
Oh cool. I'm glad you finished up Mighty Girl. They look great together.
They do look good together. Great work Area! You're improving, man. :D
I need some help on these.

I can't seem to get Damian's face to look young enough. I don't know if it the head size (bigger and more round would be better) or what but he feels to old to me. Any suggestions to get it right?
and
Holocaust, just grrr, I get working on him and think he's looking right but then, bam, I hate it. All I've got right now is the main body (that arm is just a rough) and I'm trying to give is glass suit look but I'm not sure if it looks right. I need help with the dome too. I inserted a flaming fx into the dome but having two alpha's causes problems. Any one know how to get that dome to look good?
First off two thumbs way up for tackling these two characters.
With Damien you're right, a different shaped head would make a world of difference. What are you using right now? Maybe try Renegade's old kid meshes, Renegade's Captain Marvel Jr, or Superboy, or Tom's teen mesh.
Wider/larger eyes will also help alot. Also don't emphasize the chin too much, it looks like you might have a highlight on it. Sharp features are a sign of adults, you want soft rounded features for kids. However you need to balance that with making Damien look like a deadly assassin he is.
I'm not really familiar enough with Holocaust to offer much help right now.
That's Tomato's Teen that I shrunk to 60%. I've been trying to hunt down Ren's Male_teen_14 but it's not in his Yahoo group.
edited to add-
I'm an idiot. I didn't read. Sidekick pack... Definitely the mesh to use.

Sidekick pack... Definitely the mesh to use.
It might be tricky to get that mesh to use the right keyframes that you want. Worse case scenario (or maybe it's best case, I don't know), mount the body onto Ren's old Robin mesh.
I don't think Ren's Robin really fit Damon. Wouldn't he need duo swords and slicked back hair?

I did say worse case scenario. But the hair wouldn't be an issue if you mounted the male 14 to the mesh instead of the standard body.
Why not just use the mesh you have now and skope his head larger and his body smaller? You can do this via nifinstance.
The reason Tomato's Teen didn't work with the resize like you say AA is that the head is still more rectangular than round. Right now I have Ren's Teen_14 with the head slightly oversized. It looks a lot better but some of the other parts need changing now. He has keyrames that are an altered version of the keys DM made for Batman so he can pull out one sword. I'll have pics later when I fix the seams and everything that got messed up on the different body.
Edited to add -
I updated the above photo to show what he looks like now. I know his pants are grey/blue and not black leather but I think it looks better this way (I'll do both).
That Holocaust skin is looking pretty slick so far. Hope you get the issues you have with it resolved.
Not to be that guy but your Damian looks like he's bargaining A LOT my Red Robin and Robin TT work. I don't usually have a problem with kitbashing this but it took me a long time to develop my new style and I'd really to like to keep it mine. Especially since you've shown you can skin extremely well (see Rusty Colins). I've never released a base skin for a reason.
Here's where he's at now. AA I did use the color picker for the reds off your Robin and I did run with your technique of less contrast in colors in the tunic. I had already ditched the leather because yeah they did end up looking similar (besides he wears pants when Quietly draws him). The body is Courts costume base and the face is Courts new face base but I think he's looking more Tim Drake than Damian though in the face.
edited to add - I forgot to say that the buckle and cape I haven't touched yet so they did have the skin from the parts I skoped from. Those weren't intended to be used.
Well I have bad news. The bridge on my main PC's motherboard died on me and since the board was old to begin with I'm taking the opportunity to go ahead and upgrade it. Now the PC that I use for doing my programming and art is out of commission until the parts are shipped to me.
It sucks that I had packed up Rusty and Pyro for upload right before it went down. Sigh, I'm not going to bother moving my drives to my other comps just for a few files so those two are going to have to wait. It looks like LP will get Skid's out before I can get Rusty released.
Sorry to hear about your comp woes.
With my slow pace, your Rusty may show up sooner than my Skids. :)

Sorry to hear about your PC, Area.. Things always seem to pop up when you least expect them and computer tech stuff has thrown more then a few wrenches into my work on FF material. Thankfully you are able to just put those on hold and use this chance to upgrade your system. I'm looking forward to play with Pyro and Rusty as soon as they are released.

Alright, I'm repaired and ready to work. Here is where Damian was when I crashed
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/Area34/Untitled-1-3.jpg)
The Belt buckle hasn't been skinned yet so it's still AA's. With the rest, I hope AA can see that I wasn't swiping his work just the colors...
And rather than put this in a new thread- Has there ever been a Dark Flash skin? I know nothing of the character but I saw the outfit today and really liked it. I'll make one if it doesn't exist but if it's been done already I won't bother.

That depends do you mean the Dark Flash (http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/7658/1035914-dark_flash_1.jpg) - some alternate reality version of the Flash from the mid-to-late 90's or Black Flash (http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/2/27967/804995-blackest_flash.jpg) the personification of death to speedsters in the DCU?
If you mean Dark Flash then at least Courtnall6 and I think AA have skinned him in the past. If you mean Black Flash, then I don't recall any skins of him.
Yeah that's the one. I guess I won't skin it but now I have to find it.
I sent C6's skin to your email. :D
Thanks. I'm already running around with him. I have no clue who he is (other than a version of Flash) but I love the look. I'm a sucker for simple clean designs.
Hey, that Damian is turning out nice. I gotta ask though, what's with that shadow line on the side of his face, from just in front of his ear? Is that suppose to be a cheek or something? Other than that you're doing alright.
It's a jaw line. I think with a kid shaped head it comes out wrong. I've been experimenting with blending it down so it's not as harsh but I don't want to lose it altogether. I'll tweek it more.
The problem with it being a jaw line is it goes in front of the ear. Unless we're talking about different things.
If we ARE talking about the same line then it would end at the base of the ear.
After playing with Damian more and starting a Power Packer, I think I know why it's funky. He started off on a normal teen mesh and then I moved him to Ren's sidekick who has a round head. It stretches and compresses differently.

Abigail Brand of SWORD.
This is based off of Cassaday's take on the uni instead of Sanders current take. The skope started life as DM's Agent 13. It's Nearly complete, it just needs the touch ups for whatever you people see needing fixed and the belt. I just started on the belt so the pouches are Unko's at the moment and still needs to be done. My only problem is the seam around the boobs can't be smooth do to the Female Versatile's construction.
Looking GREAT! there can never be enough X-universe skins!
Well done Area
Looking great Area, its nice to still see charaters that havn't been skinned before still being made.
Nice Damian skin, really captured the character, keep it up!
Nice job. Neat to see that character skinned.
It was that or Phonogram's Kohl and I went with one I think more people will want.
Please tell me you haven't abandoned the idea of doing Phonogram characters. I'd love to see Kohl et al walking about in FF (either black and white or colour versions would be cool). Your work is definitely improving and you're beginning to find your own style, which is cool. Keep it up, Area :)
I have a half complete Kohl. I stopped when I got stuck on the keys and I tend to switch around what I'm doing when I get stuck on something. I like to say it's to stay fresh but really it's just because I get frustrated (DAMN YOU HOLOCAUST!). It is (in color) his Superman with melted logo outfit. I was going to do his "old school" attire as a variant.
On the bright side the stoppage has let me get Brand pretty much done and I'm almost ready to post pics my first Power Packer's costumes. His skope though I might need help with. How do I do a I get a kid to transform into a cloud for an passive defense(I'd rather not make an FX for it.)
I'm liking the skope and skin for Brand.. really great job. Where did you get those shoulder pieces from? That could work better than what I have for the Generation X uniform.
They are from Tommy Boy's Versatile. KQ_shoulderpads.
He's not done but he's far enough along that I should open it up for opinions.

He's taking awhile for various reasons. To start with I had to create multiple versions of the base so when I do the other three I can slide it over to them with little changes. Same with the skope. It's made in a way that I can slide it across to other people. Right now he's a hexed a resized Cap Marvel JR but I still wish I could get some cloud animations in the mix. To the skopers out there, is there a better match to the boots? Right now I have his feet partially alpha'd so it doesn't clip but I wasn't sure if there was a better fit.
As for the costumes. The modern outfit needs his feet done still. The current look is shoes into the metal. The Doran outfit is from the 2000 series that I have never read but saw the covers of on a site. The outfit might be wrong since the only pictures I have of it are from the covers posted online and I haven't been able to track it down on DC++. So any reference pics would be appreciated. I think he has a fourth variant but I haven't been able to find any pics of it otherwise I would have done it.
That face is just perfect. I don't know who the charcter is, but the face is really, really well done.
I'm really glad the Power Pack are being created.
For those 'boots' and bracelets, have you tried Jean Grey by Ink? Her arm bands are strikingly similar to Power Pack's stuff.
I really like the way he looks, particularly the Classic look.
Were you also considering creating Powerpax, when Alex was a member of the New Warriors?
The face is Courts base with everything smoothed down and brightened. I then went and added new highlights to the chin, cheeks and eyebrows. I did the same with with Damian but I think Jack looks younger and better because I gave him huge eyes. I mean those things are twice the size of my normal eyes.
@LP- Yeah, they were the first characters that I was shocked to find that Court had never done a version of. They are right in his wheelhouse. I'm guessing it was the lack of a mesh that kept him from doing them.
-I tried out the Jean gauntlets but they aren't round. I don't know why but it bothers me. At some angles it just looks weird to me. I dunno, I'll play with them some. They aren't as bulky either and I kinda like the bulky. Makes the kids look smaller.
And I had planned on doing a couple of bonus characters to go with the Power Packers. One was Powerpax and another was a certain Richards kid that liked to hang out with the team (which is strange since he's still a kid in the comics and the team have aged quite a bit).
Edited to add:
I updated the pic above. I finished the boots on the modern. I changed the chest disk on Doran's to have better reflection and glow effects and did a cleaner cut with the cloud logo on the chest. Oh and I also added more brown to hair. Not sure if I'll keep it that way though.

The oldest of the Power's Clan.
Alex was supposed to be easy after I made a template with Jack but that damn Yellow/Black outfit was a ambiguously foreborn. I don't think I got it perfect but screw it, I've given up on it...
I updated my skope to have the strap to the disk to be an object now. I'm not sure what's supposed to be in the disk though. I can't find a pic where I can see what's in it. The girl has a star in it and her logo is a star so I don't know if it's redundant symbol or if all of them have a star in them.
With Alex I gave him two new doo's. I tried to make the standard mesh hair look completely different than Jacks even though they're both on the same mesh and I'm still debating on making the hair brighter.
Cool. I like that you've done multiple costumes.
Power Pack are looking great! Can't wait to see the girls.
Nice work on those young looking faces
area 34, youve done a REALLY good job on them.dont sell yourself short by no means buddy.
They're looking very good, Area, specially Alex. The faces are just perfect, with that "wide eyed innocent look" you would expect from Power Pack.
Hey! The yellow black outfit! Awesome!
I love Power Pack. Good work!
Awesome work. I can't wait to see the girls.
Shaping up very nicely.. looking forward to the full team.. and Powerpax!
Thanks for the kind words. I'm taking my time on them, and trying to get them just right. The girls are a little harder since they each have a unique skope of their own and I can't tell the scale of characters unless I'm in game (that's why Damian isn't done too).

After reading about Pinking issues with my two PCTales characters I was wondering if I should go ahead and release all my skins as DDS format? I hadn't bothered since most people have left them as TGAs but seeing how lately LP has switched over makes me think I should to. Should DDS format be the "standard" for release?

I usually release DDS format as standard myself.. just because it eliminates the pinking issues and saves people from having to convert them unless they only use FF1.

Lack of interest. I never really cared for Power Pack.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for making these. I can't wait to try them out. Will you be making the FX to go with them too?
Hmmm. I got the impression you were a fan of the classic colorful characters and you can get more classically colorful than the original Power Pack. True, I was kid when I read the old stuff so I might not remember them that well.
- They will have some FX's. I was hoping to do a cloud animation with Jack's nif but that is far to advanced for me so I've made a FX instead. I also have a rainbow streak that kicks in during Julie's flight animation.

Coming out of his cave for some help....
Animated series outfits Luthor -
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/Area34/Untitled-1-26.jpg)
The first two are from JLU and the last is the Superfriends. I need some help with the skope on this one. Ive built this out of Gren's Fury and I want to move the jet pack flames down to his feet jets but I can 't seem to get it to work. I'm sure it's something easy but I'm all skoped out. :banghead:
Man, wow! You are growing up so fast! *wipes tears*
Cool.
Great face and colors!
Wow! Those are some absolutely fantastic Luthors! If I wasn't so burnt out with the DCUG by now, I'd definitely put an unamored version of him in. :)
Thanks for the compliments. Ever since I started with Courts costume base with the Packers I keep making updates each time I use it. I'm tempted to go back to some of my other unreleased that were previous steps and swap in the fancier version.
Benton - Like I said before I still need someone to fix the Jet's before he's done. So maybe you'll be more inclined by then :D. -besides I plan on finishing Mercy to go with him before he's done and she's low on my to complete list.
Area, those Lex Luthors are so good!
Good luck with skoping the particle emitters.. those are my skoping kryptonite.
Nice job on them Luthors. I especially like his stupid, jerk-arse face. You can tell he's a jerk just by looking at him.
LP- Yeah, that's why I'm hoping someone might help me out. I figure it should be a simple matter or move the FX to the new jets but every time I do it the FX just disappears.
Scorp - Thanks, I was afraid he was more Prof X than Luthor. Both AA's and Courts are so good it's intimidating.
hmm, usually there are two parts to moving particle fx. there is usually a node, and the fx emitter itself. are you moving both parts?
if that doesn't do it for you, maybe you'd have to move the skope to one with boot jests... like Jack of Hearts or wildfire...
also, these skins ROCK man! i love the secret agent type look he was sporting in jlu.
I thought that if I copied the original jet and pasted it to his calf I could then remove the original and reassign the, I think it's the SGO, to correspond with the new calf jet. I've gone line by line looking for anywhere that needs reassigning and switched them and I still end up with them disappearing. The best I've done is move the original jet pack to his ankles and then his flying animations look fine but his hovers are all messed up. I can't really move to another skope because I wanted the gun/chest animations that Fury has.
*sigh* I've never been able to get boot jets to work right with anything I've done. I have a Batman Beyond that I've been trying to do for months. Terry, like Holocaust, haunts me still.
Don't give up hope:
He is based off the vxWonderman mesh. I got to adjust the jets a bit.
looks great avalon! how'd you do it?
ive been trying to skope some fx now too, not having much luck.
I was wondering if it has something to do with the PArray part. see if it is attached to any special bones.
Actually, it may be the nifSkinInstance? perhaps the jetpack is linked to the spine1 node, maybe you can change the nifskininstance to be the right and left feet for each jet....
If you have any ideas I'd be more than happy to send it your way DM :D
Av- As a said before, I'd hate to lose the gun animations. To me, the only real Luthor is Clancy's JLU and that's what I wanted, the Super friends outfit was just a bonus just because I could.
Hmm. I dropped the chest capsules on mine because i thought they would make the outfit to busy but after seeing yours I might have to change that.
And now a something else.
I still need to work on the skope and put an earring on him.
Im not big on the character (in that Ive never read anything with him in it), but those are some nice pants you made there. The creases are amazing.
I had made a Prof X skope a while back to be all New X-Men style but left the skin to used with AA's New X-Men style skins. Now that I'm working on something else I figure I should make a skin for it so it's not just a plain wireframe skope.
*updated picture below*
You have the original awful X outfit that he wore only a few times and a variant based off of Pod's version. It's much better looking darker I think. The skope still is an all in one that works with AA's skin. I'll include in the readme what needs to be renamed to include it since AA's skin won't be included in the pack.
... included.
Cool. I'd originally intended to skin both versions. Never got around to it so I'm glad someone did.
Very nice work there Area...the only thing I'd suggest is fixing those white highlights for the xband and belt on the yellow version. ;)
I was going for more of a solid black. The pics I've seen of the suit have no highlights or anything. Just solid blacks. Anyways, I went ahead and stuck Luthor's harness on him for a more rendered look.
After seeing Av's version I went ahead and updated Luthor's skope to have more capsules on him. I also did more with his face.
Now that I fixed the shield I might as well post this before I close out the PSD. My own personal Avatar.
Built out of Bucky Cap, USAgent, and Wolverine. The shield's semi transparent and the energy line spin around from out the hub. I had to learn how to animate the glow layer. I was trying to go for a spinning stick going so fast it's like a solid shield. I did a green variant since greens my color and a X-Force/Daredevil red black variant since I see Pod's guys a lot and it got stuck in my head (the shield/weapon would be red but you can't alter the texture, what's in standard stays in all skins).
Looks cool, well done.
man, that's really cool and really well done. really.
I agree with Podmark and Xenolith. Impressive, too.
Your avatar looks really great. The blue jacket seems to suit him the most.
The Professor X on the right is the way to go.
Love The Avatar!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like u should be down with my crew!
Wow, really great work Area! That shield is impressive!
I really liked the cloth textures in the blue version. The details are impressive!
Thanks. That was my first attempt at adding textures (denim and cloth) to a base layer and doing highlights and shadows on top. It was something I've been wanting to mess with since seeing how Court and TUE's has been killing with it. Mostly I couldn't get the jeans to look like jeans without the help. How AA can pull it off so cleanly I'll never know.
@Benton - The shield came out better than I ever thought. Murs gave me a few ideas on how to sell the effect and then animating it really closes the deal. In game it looks great.
The only thing I have trouble with is the actual muscle structure I can do clothe and pants fine. But not with muscle showing through.
I can't wait to see the shield in action.
I'd be happy to release it but I just need somewhere to upload it. ;)

Also, your Luthors look pretty rock solid. Really impressive.

The Escapist
From one of my favorite comics in the last ten years. That is the silver age version (but I'm not sure if it should be black or dark blue). I'm still skoping the modern/relaunched hair. I plan on doing a golden age that is bright blue and I have a bulkier build version on the mesh that is for the time when Denny wears the suit. I haven't really done much with the keyframes other than dump flying animations (he's built out of Ren's Supes) so if anyone has any ideas what to do with his moveset let me know.
Very nice looking.
That looks good.
(And another one off my list.)
Very nice work, Area. I actually like the blue version, but I don't know anything about the character. Great work on his clothing highlights.
Not familiar? The Escapist was a great mini by B K Vaughn about creating comics. It was based off/inspired by the Chabon book Kavalier and Clay. Both definitely worth reading.
*Updated Below*
Various versions. I skoped on some ties on the back of the masks and I ended up sticking with the blue since in the comics it tends to be black with blue highlights. I still need to do the golden age one from the novel- but first in the row is when Denny wore the suit as a publicity stunt. The classic is what most comics use for the golden age flashbacks. Standard is self explanatory. The alt is what he wore in a couple of issues I have, and the last is what he looked like in the comics that Max makes about him. I'm not to happy with the stubble but I couldn't get it to look right. In the end I just grabbed some static and shaped it to match how one of C6's looked like.
Very nice skin Area. I've been meaning to check this book out for a while. I hear it's BKV's best work, who I'm a big fan of.
Oh wow. I loved The Escapist. I really need to read it again!
Also ...;) GREAT skins, you've improved by leaps and bounds!
I do like the bluer tinted ones better but they're all great. I'll have to read the series again to know which character to play in the game.
I probably should do a Luna Moth or a some Iron Chain to go with him but I'm already behind on my requests so they will have to wait.
I added a costume that is from a Chabon novel cover. No idea if it's ever used for anything other when Joe does his stunt. I just liked the visual. All I'm missing now is a blue body suit under yellow undies with and a cape version that is on some paperback editions cover. It's far to hideous to waste my time skoping and skinning. It's just not a very good design.
great character design and all the variations

When I did my Escapist 5 years ago, I went with the Deathstroke keyframes.
I'm still playing with the Escapist. Trying to get a reflection effect to look right but I'm trying to get my requests done first. I promise you Prev the Hammer guys are being worked on. I'm just tweeking the skope so there will be variant versions.
Anyways, out of the expanded universe of characters that didn't make it into the game. Gold Fang
*Updated Below*
All I had to go by was one concept art pic so the design isn't totally mine but the rest of the crew is all me. The ninja skope is from Styles Hand that I had already tweeked (can you guess what other group I have almost done?) and the archer is from DM's Foot soldier(which has me itching to do a Foot solider skin).
The big dude/Enforcer in that back still needs his axe skinned but I was holding off because I wanted to know if there was a male_heavy no mouth. His face reflects wrong and it distracts me and Id like to fix it if possible- otherwise I have to play with UV's and that's something I've never really done.
I also still need to make a Fang logo that I can slap on the arm's bands and on the Enforcer's chest.
Oh, Here is a closer shot of the ninja and archer that's been sitting in my Photobucket forever.
Oooo, that's pretty cool, Area. It's like you're trying to drive BG into a frenzy. Is that what you're trying to do, Mr.? Are you trying to over-stimulate Benton to the point he explodes? IS IT? I approve. Let's destroy that guy. :P
No worries on the HAMMER agents. I'm just glad you decided to take them on. I still have to find something to work as a HAMMER robot, so I'm not in a rush or anything.
The Gold Fang stuff is awesome!
Send me those ninja skopes so I can finally make some proper The Hand ninjas! :)
Sorry Area, I'm just getting the red X, I can't see the pics on this new batch. Looking forward to it though.
Nevermind, I can see it now. Really nice skins. I don't know of a male_heavy_no_mouth, but there is a no_face version. Don't know if that will work for you though.
I've looked into it. I would have to do a head swap since the the no-face has extra parts that are not alpha'able. I'm right now working on how to go about doing head swaps. If it works I'll just use a nomouth from a standard male_basic.
@LP - I've got some Hand ninjas that just needs their faces finished. I just need to do a head swap on the ninja's before I finish them.
I would  Hand ninjas!
Wow, great going with the Golden Fangs. I had plans for them for the FFVSTR Mod I never started maybe if I get inspired again you, John Jr, Bent, and I could talk.

I think that would be a reaallly sweet project.
I did the head swap but not to dis the nomouth nif but it has a weird UV that makes the reflection look wrong so I ended up just changing the mask.
Great ninjas, Area. They are all looking good, but the demon masked one is specially good.
@AA - If you have modding ideas about Fang you should definitely PM Benton.
I went ahead and updated the Enforcer again (for the last time). I added some stuff to his ears and redid the mask. So unless anyone has any tweeks I'm going to close out the Golden Army.
On another note - Since it's known now that I'm being added to the Champions site(which is a huge honor) I can finally say that's why I've been going back and skinning my old skopes. The plan is when my area goes live that I'm going to upload only skopes that include skins. The problem is a lot of PSD's of the stuff I did in the Hex thread don't exist so I will have to redo them completely (unless Court's suddenly okay with me posting nine different versions of Havok built on top of his Havok Classic :D). I guess I just wanted to say that if I do a skin that has already been done don't take it as an insult I'm just trying to skin all my skopes in my area (well, except Winter Soldier, Murs' is perfect.)
Some of the finished skopes -

(And sorry Murs I stuck with the bronze coloring. Turning it gold was just to bright for me and I stand by my statement that I haven't "earned" gold yet.)
and AA -The Prof X skope is made to work with your skin and doesn't contain it. I think the only thing is an alpha issue but I included a blank TGA with the proper alpha that just needs to be dropped on the Jacket.tga.
Well I had planned on finishing the Hand but then Style had to go and send me a skope of Tomato's brilliant Two Face. Originally I just wanted the split the hair so I could use my old skin but Style also added a protruding eye and I had to do a new face to take advantage of it.
He's Timmverse era so his face is more scaley and he has ginormous red lips. I'm not liking red lips but what do people think? Should I red the lips or leave it as is? Oh, and the suit is just Courts suit base recolored and leveled so props go to him for it.
Lookin good. ;) Are ya still workin on the hair?
Yeah I haven't gotten to hair or the coin yet, that's Tomato's hair and the Wire to new hair. I was thinking about adding a couple bangs to it but I hate making things "busy" looking.

I LOVE IT! Man Freedom Reborn is BOOMING!!!
wow. very nice.
Great work Area! Really nice detail on his scarred half, there.
Thanks but credit really goes to Tomato and Court for such a great mesh and base. I just did a head. And even that is because Style thought up the protruding eye.
-Alright, closing it out and uploading it to the site later today unless anyone has any more suggestions.
I Skoped some bangs this morning and added some shadows. The skope is set up with alpha's so you can keep Tomato's as standard (you just add two DDS's) and mine as an alt. You now have comics era, Timmverse era and someone else out there can do a Dark Knight face burnt style (see how I covertly did a request).
Cool, I was waiting to see who'd get to Timmverse Two-Face first.
If you want, go ahead and send the updated nif and blank dds files to me and I'll just tack it on to mine, since I needed to fix the hair anyway. ((And just fyi, the base skin is mostly mine, it's just done on top of C6's skin tone work))
OK Area is officially the Lebron James of skinning!
Sorry, I must have misread the readme. I did think the suit base looked different when I used it this time but figured it was because it was 1024 to begin with.
I went ahead and moved the UV's so everything is on a single TGA. I have a thing for making skopes as compressed as possible (which usually means I have to move the UV's again when I want to reuse the part on something else). Now all that has to be alpha'd between is tf_extras.tga and extras.tga.
I want to make a couple more tweeks (black fingernails, ect) and then I'll send it your way.
That Two-Face skin is phenomenal.
But don't slack off on The Hand! ;)
Hollllyyy crap. You've got some serious skills man! Just read through this whole thread, and it's amazing to watch your progress! You should be very proud of the stuff you're making now; can't wait to see what else you come out with! :D
-CM :cardmaster
Sigh, I blew my deadline. I blame the warm weather. My jet ski beckoned me more than the Hand. I'm uploading everything else right now. Of the new stuff that wasn't on my Yahoo groups -
My animated shield spinning avatar - three versions (my Black Lantern variant didn't get finished in time :banghead:).
The Gold Fang Gang (four different guys) with a new Staff FX.
A skin for my Doctor Brother Voodoo skope.
Kevin Matchstick - Four versions of Wagners classic with six new bat related FX's also.
Luthor - three versions based off the animated series' (the boot jets fx's are still not fixed).
Omega - I moved him to Gren's new Vindicator mesh and while I was doing that I redid the whites on the skin(they always bugged me)
Professor X - New skope with two skins and is set up to be compatible with AA's New X-Men skin
Pyro - was reskoped to be able to be an all-in-one compatible with C6's or AA's skins.
Supersabre - was reskinned to use the newer base I'm been doing. Not a big changed but I prefer it.
The Escapist - Six versions (and one crowed group picture) with keys based off of Kenn's suggestions.
Two-Face - Animated series skin
Things are almost done but didn't make it in time -
The Hand - They are finished but I want to redo the face.
Power Pack - The girls skopes area still a problem that needs some professional help.
Mercy Graves - Fixing the skope
Holocaust - still need to finish the shoulders and I was going to animate the bubbles.
Hammer Agents - nearly done
Damian Wayne - I had to move him to a different mesh (body distorted weirdly with his keys) so I still need to adjust the skin to it.
Kick arse - just need to fix the face seams to line up (not a fan so not very motivated to finish)
David Kohl - Just need to finish his alt
I just checked out your avatar in CTool...what you did with the shield is spectacular!
Everyone should check that out.
Mandroid
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/Area34/Untitled-1-20.jpg)
With this one, since I do my metal effects a certain way, I had to do a completely original base. I'm not sure if I should tone down the reflection though.
I posted in Gren's thread, but just so you know, I think that looks great! It's really got a depth to the color that impresses the heck out of me.
That is some of the best metal work I have ever seen on that Mandroid, fantastic work. That 2 Face is just stunning!
Area, that skin is really phenomenal so far. The base you created for it is really fantastic. I like how you did the layering of seams, with all the shadow to make it look 3d. Good touch.
Wow Area!
The metal is just perfect! An impressive job!
Niiice!
I went ahead and toned down the reflection some. In game he was just to shiny for a killing machine. There are three versions(just different faces and numbers) so you can set the troops to random and have a bit of variety.
Nicely done, Area.
Wow looking really good.
The skins are great and it was a clever idea make more than one "face".
Great work man! I love the touch of having different numbers. :)
BG- I got the idea for the numbers from the issue I used for reference.
I really like how they came out. It got me in the mood to a similar character. Which leads me to -

It's the Mark 1 (or 2 not sure). My Iron Man knowledge isn't that great (I was an X-men guy) so I'm going of the few pics I have. I'm not sure if the eyes/mouth are right. I out of habit did the lip around the eye but I'm not sure if it should just be recessed. I'm not sure if I should add some brushed metal texture on top of it. I try not to do the extra textures to much because A. I tend to like the clean look and B. I can't get it to look as good as Murs (just look at WS's arm). So input would be appreciated.
I wouldn't worry about the texture...he was just yellow in the comics. Looks cool!
Its the Mark 2 Big A, the silver one was the Mark 1... And I have just one suggestion show Toney's eyes through the eye holes(I would even make this an alternate skin) ^_^ I've been waiting for someone to skin him and your doing a masterful job!
It's great, Area!
And I agree with Style about the textures and about the version showing Downey Jr.'s eyes
Hey, quick q.
I've tried to download a few of these and it keeps crashing FFvTTR. Is there something I'm missing?
I haven't done anything with the face yet but I'll incorporate the eyes as a variant since there is interest. I had hoped to get him done today but I had to do a bunch of UV moving on the body and that slowed me down (every part was the same file in the same corner). I need to do the face, legs, and I still need to move the UV to the bolts on the gloves.
*Updated below*
I wasn't sure which chest to go with though. I've been using Joe Casey's Iron Man as my reference and that has a glowing white circle but in the old comics I thought it was just a his chest.
Shogunn- What ones are giving you a problem? The only skope I've ever done in my entire skoping career that has giving me a problem is Crimson and that is only a problem in CTool. If something is wrong it might just be the RAR.
Go with the glowing white circle chest piece. It makes since in light of the movie!
Hey, thanks Area.
I've actually tried a few that did work fine(Blue Beetle II and Omega), but I tried a few others(Lex Luthor, Dr. Doom and Helfire Goons) that don't convert and/or crash FFX or EZnifconverter.
Ideas?
This new (old?) Iron Man is shaping up nicely.
Shogunn, I've had the same issues with the Hellfire goon.. try the skope without converting them.. or are they too dark?
That's the thing, I can't convert them. If I try, it crashers the converter. If I try to use them in game, it crashes the game.
did you try the "Converting Skoped Meshes" tutorial I wrote for http://frworld.wikispaces.com/ ? It might solve your problems.
I thought everything I did was already converted... hmmm the goon's skope was one of my first so I might have left them alone but I know they run in game so I don't think they need to be converted. If it's a problem I can reskope them in :ffvstr: only format. They are just bobby69 Iron Men skoped onto different soldiers.
The goons work, but the skins are dark. At least thats the issue on my machine.
Okay I'll reskope them. But first -
(http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/Area34/Untitled-1-84.jpg)
He still needs the bolts fixed but other than that he should be done. I was trying to keep him 100% Tommyboy but in the end I was already having to skope everything anyways so I moved him onto Gren's new Iron Man mesh so he now has FXs. I'm not sure if I should give him something more low tech than repulsors for flight though.
I went ahead and recessed the eyes. The Casey books use are variation of this armor and the eyes are just cutouts (it also has more seams on the helmet but I like it simple and clean). I have two versions thanks to Style's suggestion and I now prefer the eyed version (even though under his helmet his eyes are so far apart he must be a fish.)
He would have been done yesterday but my tired self skinned his knees on backwards and didn't notice till I was taking screen shots.
Well damn Area, that is just amazing!
Wow that's really nice. You're getting too good at this.
I'm closing out the PSD's on this. I did a a couple versions of the grey and I'm not sure which ones to keep. The textured one is my front runner. I did a version of the gold textured also (it was a brushed gold streak look) but it made it look dirty so I scrapped it.
I prefer the non textured version myself. Also I prefer the black eye slots and mouth. Never liked it when you could see Ironman's face.
I like to see the face, but I'll never really see it while playing the game.
I don't know about those extra segments in the legs. It makes him look like Stilt Man.
They are very cool skins.
Those are some damn fine skins there, but I gotta agree on the leg segments. Also, maybe releasing two versions of the skins, one with black eye and mouths and visible eyes and mouths might not be a bad idea.
Any chance of seeing a cool Mandarin Silver Age skin to go along with Iron Man here? Eh? Eh?
Tough choice. I like the bottom left the most because of the color. The rest are all equally good so it's hard to make a 2nd choice.
I was basing the skin off of a more recent series and that one had that many leg segments. I didn't know it was different. Is the classic just knees and ankles?
I'll release him with/without face but I'm not sure how many versions though. The consensus with family and friends is that the simple gray and simple gold are the ones to go with. Murs, your so far the only one to like the blue tinted one and there is no love anywhere for the roughed up metal.
As for Mandarin. I've wanted a Mandarin myself. If I were to ever do one it would need a new skope/mesh and right now I'm trying to just skin(this Iron Man wasn't supposed to be any skoping but... it had some issues that needed fixed).
On the bright side for Iron Man fans I'm hard at work on another Iron Man armor, one that has never had a skin with it.
I did a little browsing online, and the gold armor has been drawn a ton of different ways, even by Heck, Kirby, and whomever else took a shot at it. I'd say go with what you like.
I then flipped through my Marvel Masterworks and saw that he didn't have repulser beams in his hands, but then again, he had all kinds of gadgets, so repulsers (how do you spell that, anyway?) wouldn't have been way out of line.
Truly impressive work, Area.

Area, don't worry about the repulser beams on the Mark 2 armor because if you pick up issues of Avengers: The Origin LS the artist added them into his design (although they are just used as flight stablizers not used as projectile weapons.. so far).

Iron man (men??) is incredible, love all of them, I like how you tried the texture, even though i think it looks slightly odd in comparison to the others, I really like it. Adds a little bit of grit and realism.
And the other work you've done, especially your av and mandroids, just wow!
Area34, where can I find your fantastic meshes? I loved Lex Luthor and Booster Gold and many others.
The megalist points to a wrong adress. Do you still have these meshes online and if not, could you send them to me?
