Title: It's been awhile...dusted off the old FF CD but have some questions
Post by: kingb33 on June 02, 2010, 06:06:23 AM
Hi, i used to be a huge FF fanatic waaaay back in the day. I found my old FF CD and decided to install it and started searching around for stuff and found like 95% of the old sites are are gone (obviously).  It was food to see Alex'sFF was still around though.  So where does everyone go to download Marvel and DC hero skins, meshes, recipes, etc now? Other than here?  You know like a warehouse site that holds everything so you don't have to hunt around too much...

Also i was wondering, i used to love the old Danger Room mod where u could just "watch" your heroes fight.  Did they ever improve on that at all?  Or make something better?  I remember there was a hero limit of "4" and thought that was always a little lame. I wanted to have like 6 vs 6 type matches and stuff...

Thanks!

Welcome back KingBee.  :)

Regarding your question about playing more than four characters. Here's a link about it. ^_^

As far as sites that have a lot of content, some of the biggest left are these:

http://ffcenter.net/champions/
http://newpowerinc.com/
http://heroforce.freedomforceforever.com/

Well, there's like the Big Three(IMO) still out there:

www.ffcenter.net/champions
heroforce.freedomforceforever.com
tommyboymeshes.freedomforceforever.com/index.html

That oughta keep you busy.  Beyond that there's of course the master mesh list, which will lead you to a buttload of yahoo groups that has everything else.  Check them out here:http://yearbook.freedomu.info/

There are others like alexff and Laughing Paradox as well.  But that's a start.

I guess that's what I get for trying to do three different things and talk on the phone all at once.

Thanks Benton.

Welcome back, Kingbe (and/or Pandabe)!

Why does everyone always diss FRP2 (http://frp.unlimited2.net)? Granted, we're not geared towards FF1, but we + NPI (http://newpowerinc.com) are still some of the bigger sites around (and FRP is the most active. Site wars? Who needs that when we update every month! :P). FXforce (http://fxforce.com) is also still around if you need FX + maps + objects + hexes as are the ff1 maps hosted on the original FRP (http://frpmods.com) site.

Also, check out the FF portal by Goggles: http://ffportal.negative-10.com/index.php

THANK YOU!

I was totally thinking of FRP, but couldn't think of the site or remember it's location.  Thanks for the refresher.  Yeah, bunch of good quality stuff there.

It's just because we hate you, Prev.  No, honestly, it was because he asked specifically about skins and meshes, and I don't usually think about FRP for those, although I realize you do have them too.

Seriously, I put up the portal and noone ever notices.
I'm thinking its cause I associate with Prev.
That's it. It was on hiatus for a while, but It's time for a return.

"IT'S ALL PREV'S FAULT!"

There. All is back to normal in the world.

How dare you, goggles. I promote your dumb site all the time. It's your fault for neglecting your singing talents! Make a #1 hit pop song about it already.

Benton... I always suspected being associated with Aquaman did a number on your other traits and senses, but man:

Reading hard? I guess that's the price of being Aquadork 2.0. :P

Hey thanks everyone! Good to see people still love FF...I'll check all that stuff out for sure

Couple other things:

1) Also...I forgot how it works.  How can I tell if something I download is just a skin?  Is just a mesh?  Or is both mesh and skin together?  I remember finding the right mesh for skins was difficult sometimes back in the day.

2) What about good hero recipes and voice packs? Where does everyone go for those?

Thanks!

If it has a .nif file, it's a mesh, if it's nothing but .tga files it's a skin, if it's nothing but .dds files it's a Freedom Force vs. The 3rd Reich skin (not too many those, since FFv3R can read .tga). I know that Alex's Freedom Fortress (http://www.alexff.com/index.php) has some hero recipies, and someplace recently there was a discussion about a voicepack list. You might check the Sounds forum for that.

When you find a site with content, be sure to check out their links page; no telling what you might find that way.

Then there is Freedom Force Forever:

http://freedomforceforever.com/

It's a metasite hosting several other sites. Tommyboy's site is massive.

Really guys, it took prem to mention NPI? I mean really, I know I went away for awhile, but it's not THAT inactive. Heck, I have almost as many skins/meshes up as C6 does and he does like, 20 skins at a time.

Hi some of the meshes / skins i installed look perfectly fine in the preview window when looking through all my custom characters.  But when "in game" some textures on certain characters show up "hot pink."  Why is that when they look totally fine in the preview window?

Thanks

Memory problems most likely. I have had trouble (not lately) with hidden stuff showing up pink in the game (Tommy's meshes were just one pink blob). Same thing with some rest that have been "alpha-ed" out. Wait 'till you get the FastHeap error (low memory) or they show up turquoise instead of pink (the textures are the wrong size [measurements or resoloution]).

Things that affect memory: hero files and SFX. On my previous comptuer I had to juggle these around so I could actually load the game in less than 15 minutes.

Someone else may have better ideas or more information.

The textures are in TGA or DDS format? The game sometimes has issues with TGAs and read them as "pink", if this is the case you only need to convert them to DDS.
