I've recieved a notice that Al Williamson died over the weekend. I haven't seen any confirmation about it.
Al Williamson was one of the premier Sf artists in the '50s, working at EC on its SF comics. He also did some movie adaptations of some obscure little thing named Star Wars, and apparently some Spider-Man comics (2099 maybe).
He also did a little work with a guy named Frazetta, and I'm pretty sure he helped Gil Kane out on a Flash Gordon comic.
Maybe I'm wroing, but...
Newsarama is reporting it as a fact. (http://blog.newsarama.com/2010/06/14/legendary-al-williamson-1931-2010/)
He'll be missed.
Among numerous more notable works, I'll remember him first for the great job he did as Romita Jr.'s inker on Ann Nocenti's nice Daredevil run. JR Jr really coming into his own at this time is probably not a coincidence.
He'll be missed indeed.
