Title: Delayed damage for custom effects?
Post by: ZozmaSage on October 09, 2011, 11:49:39 PM
A lot of the custom FX I have installed work fine visually, but sometimes enemies don't seem to take damage for quite a while after it seems like they ought to. Any tips or suggestions on how to fix this?

Some FF1 fx have timing issues in FFvTTR. The quick fix is to replace the end nifs in those FX folders. Only seems to be a real issues for FX with radii.

Replace them with end nifs of fx that don't have that issue, I presume?

Right. I should have been more clear. Your best bet is to take some FFvTTR end nifs and use those to replace the FF1 ones with timing issues.

Seems to work for everything except for area attacks, which is bearable. Thanks :)

Well, area attacks don't have end.nifs; they have core.nifs. I don't know if you can find many FFvTTR replacement nifs for area attacks, but you can certainly give it a try. The fire and ice area attacks should be fairly easy to replace.

Is there a more advanced technique I could use if I want to keep the end nif?

Edit: On that note, where are the FFVTR nifs located? I looked up and down my FFVTR Steam folder and can't seem to find them, even with hidden folders disabled.

Apparently, I'm the only FX person around these parts. That's unfortunate.

First question: No. Sorry. FF1 nifs are mostly compatible with FFv3R but not fully. What you're experiencing is one of the pesky little issues that is not fixable from what I've seen.

Second question: That fully depends on if you unzipped the files from the art.ff archives in the "Data" folder. By default, they go into the "[...]\Data\art\library\fx" folders.

They don't seem to be there. I think something may have gone wrong between Alex's fx and FFX3. I'll just have to use custom end nifs from FFVTR packs, I guess.
