OK, not really.
From some of the former irrational people who worked on FF comes.... Dreadline
Which looks a lot like Freedom Force, only with time traveling monsters and more tongue in cheek.
It has me quite intrigued.

Interesting...
Looks fun :P
Sounds like a macabre twist on John Varley's Millennium!
I was JUST going to post about this!!!

Ha ha ha! That looks so great.
The rendered 3D actually look pretty sweet (in a brain-eating mummy kind of sweet).
Haha.........well, the subject matter doesn't grab me too much, but that does look delightfully FF-ish. I'd love it if it were monsters fighting monsters...or Nazis...or anything that wasn't murdering innocent (albeit doomed) people.........I do have a secret childhood love for Monsters-in-My-Pocket.....
The game joins the Kickstarter parade. As it seems to follow the FF game mechanics more closely than most games, it might be worth your support.

Me either, but if the game is similar enough to lend itself just as well to modding maybe the game could be modded to do other things.
Yeah, I have a feeling it may be the subject matter that may doom this kickstarter. I would love to fund a FF like game from the people who made the original, but funding a game about murdering innocent people is just not something I can bring myself to do.

Won't see a dime from me, that's for sure.
Maybe if they had made it about time travellers who try to stop time travelling monsters from murdering innocent, doomed people... still nope.
A litle on the morbid side, unlike the FF games, this is not something I would want my kids standing over my shoulder watching while I'm playing. Sorry, but this wouldn't get my money.
As I figured, this failed rather spectacularly. only 23k out of the 160k they asked for. Which in Kickstarter means they get nothing. While I wish them well, the subject matter pretty much guantees this is fail, IMO.
Yeah, a shame really, but no big surprise. In addition to the subject matter, as you pointed out, Cat, these guys didn't seem to be too great at marketing. (Reminds me of a certain game company which tried to self-publish the sequel to a somewhat successful game a few years ago and had to put itself for sale afterwards...)
