Back in the early days of FF, we didn't have no fancy-pants FFX to spice up our mods. We had a dozen FX maybe! And we typed in every power for every hero into FFEDIT with our bare fingers - and we walked 5 miles in the snow to find the right mesh - and 80% of the time the right mesh was male_basic!
Return with me now to those thrilling days of FF innovation with a blast from the past - the legendary Super Powers Mod by Fatal_T and The Four-Eyed Avenger!
I had this on my backup drive and after checking with The Four-Eyed one himself, I took it upon myself to combine the various installers and patches into a single complete package. I also fixed an issue with certain levels that needed maps that only came with the original FF editor.
A true classic, this is one of the first DC Mods, but still among my favorites - the "Bat's In The Cradle" episode still inspires. I remember congratulating Fatal_T and Four-Eyed Avenger on their great achievement when it came out. I kind of always felt this occurs in a shared universe with my own JLA Mod as we both used a lot of the same meshes/skins and my own hero "recipes" were used as the basis for some heroes.
I'm glad we can all once again enjoy this great adventure! Grab it now on the Mods page.
Haha, I played this back in the day, and it is a great classic mod. Your description though, that's priceless.
Thanks for hosting this!
After almost 10yrs, I'm once again posting Courtnall6's Marvel skins. Only about 15 up right now (cause I'm busy dammit!)
But look for more Marvel (and other currently unhosted skins) to follow.

WOOHOO!
You are awesome... Thanks!
I don't think c6's stuff from Champions or Renegade Victory is hosted on anyone's website at the moment (although it has been collected in yahoo groups). Fingers crossed all the Champions stuff gets a new home.
Any chance we can beg and plead to get him to release some of his previously unreleased Skins, before he stopped Skinning, he had previewed some outstanding pieces of art, including a beautiful Juggernaut Skin.
nice... glad to see these finally getting a home again. we really need to do something as a community to get all the older members content off of yahoo and on to an actual site.
and i agree with cb i would love to see c6 back along with others like renegade, fusion, beyonder and gren not even for content just to see how they're doing

Agreed, I was going to send C6 a PM about something, but he hasn't logged in to FR since October of 2013. :(
I'd love to see Gren's meshes on a website.
Added 33 more skin packs to Courntall6's Marvel page, bringing the current total to 48.
More on the way.
Fantastic! Thanks Alex, this is great!
Excellent release Alex, I actually found a few things that I didn't have. Thank you.
Sweet!
Have about 100 to go to catch up to what I had originally on my site.
And then I will start adding his work from other places (anybody have his Champions of Freedom stuff? I only have some of it)
There's a good chuck of his Champions stuff located here: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Champions_of_Freedom_3/info
Champions also had the skins that used to be hosted on Renegade's Toybox, right?
Thanks for the link!
I don't suppose anyone has copies of the preview pics that used to go with his skins?
I have about 117 of the ones I used to have on my site, but that's not all of them and I have none of the Champions ones.

Unfortunately, I believe a few of us have used the Way Back Machine to try and find preview pics, but as far as I know, no one has had any luck.
I might happen to have those preview pics, if you have something like a list of what you need that would help.

President Raygun, the list above Is a good start if you have them. I'll go through my marvel list and post later.
i sent c6 a message on the ps3 saying you were doing this and to see if he had any of his stuff. hopefully he will get in contact
on an unrelated note will you be updating your hero file collection alex.
Thx . I actually asked c6 by email a few days back as well.
I am doing find hero files right now . I had gone a bunch of updates that never got released . I am revisiting and updating to ffv3r.
Posted a request for some C6 Angel skins in the Requests forum.
12 More C6 Marvel skins up, brining total to 60.
Thanks to President RayGun for providing plenty of pics which I'm still sorting through.
Automated some steps to make it go faster - 32 more skins, bringing total to 92.
46 more skins, bringing total to 138.
That will do it for this weekend, but more coming soon.
It's awesome seeing C6's stuff being collected on a site again
Another day, another 63 skins by Cournall6 added to his Marvel page! Hope to wrap this update up soon.
Man, these are some great updates. Thanks Alex!
And in today's BONUS update:
Is your Batman feeling tired from all the Danger Room action?
Crimefighting can be very tiring, you know.
Maybe he just needs a little drive through the city to relax. Yeah, and now he can do it in style - 1966 style! Get J_Foam's Batmobile '66 mesh on his page!
That made my day.
Holy old school pimp ride Batman! That's awesome.
Wowzers!
That is definitely a great surprise!
So awesome! In fact, that is too awesome! :D
Hey Alex, I've got all of C6's stuff from the Toybox if you need any of that.
Thx Benton, I may do.
Should wrap up his basic Marvel stuff very soon. And then I'll get into his Toybox/Champions of Freedom stuff.
I'll just upload the zip and send you a link. That's probably simplest. :)
It's been about 40 days since I started updating my site again.
In that time, the Fortress has:
•Posted FFv3R Mod Tools to allow people to more easily create mods when they have the Steam or GOG version of FFv3R.
•Compiled the classic FF mod, Super Powers, and made it available again.
•Pretty much completed work on a major new version of EZHero with a ton of new features (just waiting for a last beta check before release).
•Started reposting Courtnall6's Marvel skins (about 200 up already) and will continue with his ToyBox and Champions skins.
•Posted an awesome Batmobile 66 mesh by J_Foam
Some may say that's a pretty great bit of work. At the Fortress, we say, "ok, warm up's over".
To start getting into the next gear, here's one of KennX's legendary mega-posts. 25 new mesh/skin/skope thingies (you know what I mean):
Argent, Blue Beetle's Bug, Cat-man & Kitten, Fastbak, Flame-On-Action Johnny Storm, Flame-On-Action Original Torch, Flame-On-Action Toro, Flash of 2 Worlds, GL Archon, Hawkworld Katar Hol, Hawkworld Shayera Thal, Kim Possible, Mas y Menos, Mindgrabber Kid, Mr. Incredible, Plastic Man (updated), Scuba Guy, Shego, Sparkler, Spitfire, Stuff, Superman (Action#1, Hermes mesh), Terra III (Atlee), Left & Right Winger, Yank & Doodle
http://alexff.com
Firstly, I can't believe it's been 40 days already. I swear that it feels like I'm going through a time jump.
Secondly, THIS UPDATE IS AWESOME! Can't wait to check out the Beetle Bug or the Torches!
Wow! Look at all that awesomeness! That's great Alex and Kenn!
Impressive and awesome update Alex and Kenn. Can't wait to check these out. :penguinspin
Catman! I was just working on a hero file for him.
[EDIT]
It says that Catman was based on Renegade's Batman mesh. If Ren did a Batman, mesh I'd like a copy, please.
I don't think that the Catman is the one you're thinking of, Lantern.

Oooh, me too, please! :D
As far as I know, Ren never made a "Batman" Mesh, however, after looking at Kenn's "Cat-man" Skope, I would say that it is most likely based on Gren's first "Batman_Gren" Mesh.

Thanks for the catch on that, guys. I've corrected the Peruse Me file and reloaded it, so Alex can use it to replace the one with the incorrect information.

It is EXACTLY the Catman of whom I was thinking.
I think Ren had been working on a Batman once upon a time. He was supposedly working on a Penguin at one point too, IIRC.
I've been going through C6's section and have found a bunch of Skins that I don't seem to have. It's always very cool getting new toys to play with. Thanks for doing this Alex.

What a silly question... OF COURSE WE DO!
After several weeks' work, I'm happy to say the newest version of EZ Hero (3.4) is now available for download!
This new release (the first one since 2009!) boasts a ton of new features which should make life easier for modders and hero file fans:
•Fully supports DDS-format portraits
•Input a weight value directly into the hero file (no pulldowns)
•All FFX 3.3 Attributes are built-in by default (you can still add your own)
•Additional materials are supported: Air, Cloth, Concrete
•Sending a hero file to DAT will now auto-generate text in your strings.txt, great timesaver for modders
•New Smart Settings screen and Smart Paths - lets you check and set all your paths (Hero Files, FF Meshes, FFv3R meshes, DAT files) easily. Automatically adjusts to the right path based on what type of file you are editing (FF or FFv3R). The pulldowns include common FF/FFv3R paths for GOG, Steam, or CD, or type your own.
•Runs on all versions of Windows (including 7 and Win8.1) - no need for additional COMDLG32.OCX file
Grab it on the Goodies page!
Special thanks to my volunteer beta-testers: hoss20, Cyber Burn, and spydermann93, their efforts made it a much better product.

Forgot to mention that I also spent time going through every screen in ezhero making sure tabs worked right anf fonts were consistent. A lot of GUI cleanup basically. But it makes it easier to use.
Thank you so much for the updated EZHero! It is awesome!

Oops, sorry bout that.
Nomad (update) skin link fixed.

Two Words: Toy Box! (or is that one word?)
The Fortress continues its relentless march by making the work of one of the greats easily available once more. Yes, Renegade's Toybox has a new page on this site. I thought long and hard about this and since Renegade went on record in the forums as saying he was OK for someone to share his stuff (and since it is already being shared on the pain-in-the-butt Yahoo groups anyway), I setup a page for him. His stuff is a basic requirement for FF fans!
I also did reach out to him via PM, but realize he hasn't been active for years at this point. I used to have his email (I actually did my first skin ever for his Ray mesh) but have lost it . In any case, the first 19 meshes are up, with more to come.

Great to hear from you again!
OK it turns out it's one word (Renegade himself made it clear!) Pleased to be able to bring you 28 additional meshes now available for downloading on the Toybox page.
A little status report as well:
- Working on EZHero 3.5 which fixes a few glitches but also adds the ability to override certain settings , as requested by Yellow Lantern. More info on that when it's released (just have one bug left to crush).
- Working on EZFX 5.2 and EZFX 6.1 (may change name of 6.1 to 6.2 to make it all line up) - which will include many new FX for both games.
- Continuing to update pages by Courtnall6, Renegade, and Johnny Patches.
- Planning to start a new DevDiary that will cover my preparations and plans for the updated JLA Mod.
- A few other things I still need to reveal.

Did you know there are currently 8 versions of Doctor Fate on my site? No? Neither did I!
Until I created ... EZ Search!
Now you can easily search through the nearly 1,500 skins and meshes currently hosted here to find what you're looking for. Right now, it does a simple check through names, but I may expand it to do even more in the future. (I've got some ideas).
Try it out by clicking the EZ Search link at the top of the Skins & Meshes page!
Let me know about anything not showing up in a search, I've fixed a few typos in names as I tested this out , but there may be more.
P.S. This is one of the "few other things I still need to reveal"

Wow! It even gives the author's name after the character! Sweet!
Ohh man, that is awesome!
Very useful and a nice addition to your site. Thanks Alex.
That is extremely useful
Cool!
Awesome! It just keeps getting better and better -- yeah, this will sound a little sappy, but I think it's awesome that it feels like there's been a resurgence of interest in the game -- and I'm not necessarily speaking of new content.
Really, it's so nice to simply have the material made years ago being collected and presented. Not because I didn't have some of them, but because at the end of the day, at least for me, this game has always been about the community and being able to see the creativity and skill that has been on display for years and years now.
Then you add these new features, something like an EZSearch...again, it's a little sappy. But this stuff means more to some of us than just releases. It's about a bunch of people with the same interests who, despite the passage of time, have maintained a specific tie, even as years have passed.
I think it's more special than the average person might even realize.
EDIT: AND OH MY STARS AND GARTERS! EZHero 3.4 IS FREAKING AMAZING!!!!! Thanks so much for this!!

Couldn't have said it better myself.
Thanks for the kind words ElijahSnowFan!
(now turn around, there's something in my eye ... )
I tried the EXsearch function, and I liked it. It really does help when looking for only one mesh or skin.
the search is great! And im super glad to see Ren is around and doing well! And just as glad to see his work being brought back! Maybe we will see his elusive Super Soldier Mesh :D Thanks for all the amazing work Alex. Your site was one of the first i ever visited for downloads, and its still holds a special place in my heart. As well as a big chunk of my hard drive :P
I tried it. It worked with "Doctor Fate". Nothing came up when I tried "Green Lantern" or "Superman". Is it still in development?
The search works for me and I even tried Superman and Green Lantern to see if I could replicate Kenn's problem. I did notice, however, that in order to search, you have to hit the Enter button on your keyboard. When clicking on the "Go!" button next to the Search Box to conduct your search, nothing happens. I tried both Explorer and Firefox as my browsers and it didn't make a difference.
By the way, thanks for doing this Alex. In all honesty, I always enjoy searching your site for stuff I'm looking for. I always come across something that I might be able to use for skoping if not finding a character I've forgotten about. This will certainly help when I have to find something in particular, though.
Thanks Hoss. Hitting Enter instead of the Go Button is making it work for me too.
I'll check the go button. I probably changed the name of something as I worked on it and didn't update it.
OK GO button is ... er .. "go".
Should be OK now.
I just tested it in Firefox and I can validate that this works, now!
Just a quick rpt on the next update.
I'm putting up stuff by Beyonder, C6, and JP.
It won't be one of my 50 things updates because it's taking a bit longer to prep these files. Most of them don't have preview pics so I'm creating them myself.
JP's stuff also doesn't have std skins so daglob has kindly pointed me at his stuff . Some of the meshes have issues with Ffv3R, so I'm converting with eznif and getting help from hoss20 and Spydermann93 when that doesnt' work.
So, basically, a lot of work going into them, but I just want to make sure they work for as easily as possible for both games.

I have to say that all the work you've been putting in to your site, to EZHero, EZFX, and everything else is absolutely appreciated. To be quite honest, that is really a serious understatement.
Thank you.
Thanks man, appreciate that!

Absolutely this, x2!
These updates are amazing. Thank you so, so much. :D
Awesome!!
Great to see your site up and running, Alex. I discovered FF thanks to your Fortress and I believe it's one of the best sites to a new gamer to get the basics about the game.
Thank you so much for the great job!
CB speaks for all of us, Alex. These updates are a humongous boon for the community.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words! It really is nice to have an appreciative audience.
Well, wayddya know? It kinda turned into one of my patented Fortress Fifty-item updates!
Thanks to lots of you for helping out by sending me skins and meshes I was needing. Should be out soon!
A nice big mix of stuff for today's update. First up, two of KennX's meshes have been updated to include FFv3R versions: Atomic Knight and Icon! A big thank you to hoss20 for doing the conversions and, of course, KennX for creating them in the first place!
(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/KX/atomic_knight_kx.jpg) (http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/KX/icon_milestone_kx.jpg)
Next, we have 13 more skins by Courtnall6! A few notes on what I'm posting: I created the Daredevil 4Pack out of his old 2 Pack and 2 other of his Daredevil skins that I had but were not posted yet. I included his 2 versions of Thunderstrike in one download. Finally, I included both male_alpha and male_basic versions of Wolverine Leather in the one download as there are 2 versions of the wolverine_unmasked mesh out there.

Then, we follow it up with 7 classic meshes by The Beyonder himself. I also created FFv3R versions when needed for these. Thanks to hoss20 once more for converting Quicksilver to FFv3R.
(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/BYD/Azrael_nocape.jpg) (http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/BYD/Azrael_nocape2.jpg) (http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/BYD/byd_male_4tentacles.jpg) (http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/BYD/byd_male_old_aw.jpg) (http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/BYD/male_basic_hair_quicksilver.jpg) (http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/BYD/Rhino.jpg) (http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/BYD/Thor.jpg)
Finally, we bring it on home with 21 meshes by the skope master himself, Johnny Patches! To get them up to Fortress-spec, I've added std skins by daglob (thanks daglob!) and included FFv3R versions when needed. Big thanks to hoss20 and spydermann93 for converting a couple of troublesome meshes to FFv3R format.

Awesome update Alex, thank you!
Also, just wanted to let you know that the link for C6's "Thor_LordofAsgard_update" is not working.
Thx for catching that! Have fixed the link.
This is really great Alex. Thanks for doing all this!
Just... Wow. :D
Note: You might want to post a recap of all these amazing releases in the Releases forum, to give them additional visibility.
Great update & I haven't seen most of the JP skopes before
Been tied up with lots of traveling lately (work and vacation).
Driving to Boston for the weekend in about 5 minutes.
So that's why haven't updated recently.
Lots of stuff in the works, though. Hopefully when I'm back next week!
Have a safe drive and a nice trip, Alex!
Yep, no worries man! We're glad for all of the stuff you're doing!
Not sure if anybody noticed, but Alex has added a bar to the content pages stating how many items are on each page.
For example, C6 has 582 skins currently being hosted at the Freedom Fortress! WOW!
Kenn also has 324 skopes and skins on the site! DOUBLE WOW!
Thx, forgot to mention that. It's a benefit of moving all my skin and mesh pages to use EZ Search ™ to generate themselves. I got rid of 22 separate pages and now there's just one that gives you the info for what you need.
It also allows you to filter each of them, so I can see how many DC skins C6 has for example.
Hi, Alex! (Or anyone who might be able to answer this question.)
So, I've been around here for 10 years now, and I totally have a question about EZHero and Herofiles that I've been embarrassed to ask for years because it seems like I should be able to figure it out, but I just haven't been able to come up an answer.
Hopefully, Alex or someone can help me?
But my question has to do with the AI pulldown in EZHero, with CThugBat and CThugGun and CGenericHero, so on and so forth. And yes, this question is so basic, it's embarrassing to ask, but here it is:
Does anyone, Alex or anyone else who might know, know exactly which of those choices work, if any, if you select them?
Is there something more I have to do to enable custom characters to use them, other than select them and save the Herofile and run the Control Centre, like adjust something in a python file, which I know how to do?
I ask because I know, from reading the FFX Manual, that the AIs make the characters behave differently, and it's obvious from the built-in characters what they do, for characters like, say, the Darkmen or Bullet, etc. But for whatever reason, I have never been able to make use of that feature -- I select one, but it always seems like it doesn't save in the Herofile. The only one that appears to save is CGenericHero.
So, again, I'm really sorry if that's a stupid question -- it feels like it is something I should have been able to figure out, but I just haven't been able to do so and I just don't know where to go next to try to figure it out.
If anyone can help, you will have my total gratitude!
It's not a stupid question at all, mate. There really isn't much of anything in-game or on any sites that explain it. However, in FFEdit, if you click "Help" and go to "Contents," it will bring up a really helpful documentation of the tool. After browsing around for a while, I found an AI documentation that explains them all.
I uploaded it for you: http://www.mediafire.com/download/kw117wa3kzc00yf/AIs.doc
I hope this helps you out :)
Alex i am a little late for the party but i found out about your site update and man i want to raise a statue in your name. The preview pics for the skins and meshes are so helpful i wanna cry :D :D. I used to download every single mesh and copy it to the game folder so i can see it with character tool. No more of this now. Thx man we owe you much.

Thanks for taking the time to do that, Spyder! I appreciate it!
I've seen that documentation before, years ago, but one thing I may have read over back then might be more relevant than I realized. For anyone who might have read it, is it saying that where the power is slotted, and what kind, has to match what the AI has, no matter what?
For instance, if you select the Darkman AI, then you have to have a cloaking power in a specific slot?
Quote from: ElijahSnowFan on August 16, 2014, 01:52:18 PMFor instance, if you select the Darkman AI, then you have to have a cloaking power in a specific slot?
I believe so, yes.
I'm sure that if you look at the minions in FFEdit, you can see exactly where the powers would go.
The long-awaited August update is finally here! and it's a big one ...
Let's start off with the big news. The Fortress is very happy to welcome our first new artist in years - DaGlob!
And he gets off to a fantastic start with 21 impressive creations!

Special thanks to hoss20 for the FFv3R version of Fantasticar which is included in the download.

Update: Blue Beetle Begins' download link on DaGlob's page doesn't seem to work.
Thx for letting me know. I've fixed the link.
It is very awesome to see Daglob finally get hosted proper.
This is another fantastic update Alex, thank you.
 I was never a huge fan of "Skrull-ified" characters ... until now! Nice work, Daglob and JP
Alex pls tell me you are planning on adding Gren's meshes in the near future :D :D.

Congrats, Daglob. It's great news!
Great, just great! Even more skins and meshes for my already overally full hard drive. Anyway, looks like some good stuff from everybody, but as someone who especially likes silver and golden age heroes, I particularly like daglob's participation at The Fortress.
The September update is starting to take shape - 16 skins/meshes in so far and a lot of others that will likely make it in.
Also, some blogging from me on JLA mod. Coming soon.
A bit late - but a big 43-skin/mesh update today.

The AFF November update is coming soon.
Can't wait!
This month's update is here! We start with 43 skins and meshes (by Beyonder, Courtnall6, DaGlob, and Johnny Patches)
Special thanks to hoss20 for fixing a couple of glitchy meshes so I could include a FFv3R version.
In other updates, I updated my menu with new buttons and icons. And the first installment of my JLA Mod blog is finally up on the newly-renamed Blog page!

Fantastic update and really nice blog entry, Alex! I love the new look of the menu items, too!
It still surprised me too see how many skins C6 released. With every update, there are at least a few that I had never known about, before. I also can't wait to add all of those stretchy women DaGlob and Windblown made! They look fantastic (as does Black Widow's army :P)!
Working on a new batch - there's still tons just sitting on my hard drive I need to post!
I'm having to make preview pics which slows me down a bit, but I've gotten faster at it.
Even creating some in "REN" style . He had such a nice style, I don't want to make mine totally different, so I'm trying :)
If anyone has any REN preview pics for meshes I haven't posted yet, please send them my way. (I have no Capt America pics for example)
Here's the 1st three I've attempted :
The preview pics are looking good, Alex!
I unfortunately don't have any of the preview pics saved. And using the Wayback Machine on Renegade's old site didn't work, either (the images are no longer hosted by the provider). :(
Great job on the preview pics Alex. Nothing but compliments for those.
I finally had a chance to read the JLA Mod Blog, it was a very cool read, and I look forward to seeing where the Mod goes from here.
Hey man, awesome work on the Ren-style preview pics! What a nice touch!
So many updates in progress, I'm splitting it into 2 updates, so I can get some stuff out there. Here's Dec update #1.
New skins, meshes by Courtnall6, Renegade, DaGlob, El Insensatez, and Johnny Patches.
Plus a JLA Mod Blog entry.

I can't wait to see your updated hero files. I always liked your hero file style :P
Sooo can't wait to get home tonight so I can go on a downloading spree.

With every update, there are at least a few that I had never known about, before.
I have to agree 100% here, there always seems to be something I find that I didn't already have in my collection. Thanks for putting so much effort into collecting all of these into one place.
As the other guys have said, there is always a lot of stuff in these updates which I've never even seen before and its great having them all hosted at one site. Thank you!
wow, I can't believe how much I've missed since I lost popped in here. it's just awesome how much stuff you have hosted here alex.
Sorry, been really tied up with RL, so the 2ns part of the holiday update is still in progress!
Hope to have something out soon.
Alex, I just caught up on your blogs, and I love the info about the JLA mod. I definitely hope you get to release an expanded edition!
Nothing major today, but I did post a quick blog update on the JLA mod. This one focuses on the story I want to tell.
That's all really interesting, Alex!
Spoiler
Shame that DC "beat you to the punch", but I still can't wait to see how you write this all up. I'm still very much looking forward to your future issues!
As always, a fantastic read. It's really awesome seeing the thought processes behind other peoples creativity.
Yay! I can't wait to read this!
reading your blog update, Alex, I can't wait to see the 40-50 issues as they play out. It should be interesting to see you add in your version of the multiverse.

Aside from all the other awesomeness posted here, it's great seeing some classic Firestorm Skins included here.
Great blog post, Alex. I really enjoyed the read. We've got very similar reasons for our DC projects. Of course, your JLA mod was, as I've told you, a bit part of my inspiration for creating the DCUG, though my ideal was more Bronze than Iron Age. :)
Amazing update, Alex!
So many awesome goodies!

For Relay!
Still working on a bunch of updates for later this month - EZFX, EZHero, and more skins and meshes. In the meantime, I just wanted to post that it's Relay for Life season for me once again. As a lot of you may know, I lost both my father and wife to cancer a few years back. Since then, I have dedicated some time each year to captaining a team to participate in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event.
If you can, please consider donating whatever you'd like to my team this year. Perhaps in honor or memory of a loved one. Or maybe even if you just like my FF site! Thanks !
My donations page is here:

It's a great cause, Alex! I'll donate
Thx Starman! Appreciate it
Sorry for no updates recently - had to completely rebuild my laptop. Just got it going again and will post a bunch soon before I travel next week.
Spring has sprung and that means it's time for 43 more skins and meshes! Enjoy!

Awesome update Alex, just a heads up though, the Doctor Strange Link isn't working.
Thanks for catching that CyberBurn! I've fixed it now.
HUZZAH!!! ANOTHER RELEASE!!!
Just in time to save me from finals!
Thanks for the the new goodies, Alex and C6, Daglob and Firestorm! Some of these skins bring back memories!
I'd also like to add that your preview portraits do justice to these skins!
I love how you keep with the themes that the original artists came up with!
Awesome! Look at all this cool stuff! Thanks Alex!
Sorry for the long delay, but it's finally here - a summer update!
First up, 20 new skins and meshes for you today, courtesy of DaGlob! (and I probably have 1 or 2 he's sent me I still need to prep besides these- will do asap!)
These 20 new downloads bring me to a milestone, our 1,800th skin or mesh on the ol' Fortress! Thanks to all the artists who have contributed over the years!

Also today - an update to my EZ Hero utility, now up to version 3.5. Did most of the work for this last year but didn't realize I hadn't posted it until recently. As always, any bugs let me know.
Changes include:
•Added ability to use ALL EP Costs for ALL powers in either game, FF or FFv3R! EZHero will say "(FF)" next to options that are only officially supported in FF
•Removed weight boxes from Send To DAT screens (as hero files can now hold custom weights)
•Bug fixes to EP Cost display for Special powers
•Bug fixes to Batch Send To DAT function
•Bug fixes to Active Defense display
Fantastic update, Alex!
1,800 skins, meshes, and skopes. I'm astounded by the shear numbers of custom content for this game. Even with so much, every update to the Freedom Fortress feels like Christmas!
And I was wondering what happened with EZHero 3.5. I'm glad to see the public version finally released!
I'm still looking forward to your Hero Recipe release. I always loved the creativity behind your hero files.
I also can't wait for your JLA mod update. It's going to rock!
1800 Whoo Whoo!!!!
Congratulations Alex. Let's hope for 1800 more. :D
It's wonderful that the Freedom Fortress is still around. It has always been one of my favorite content sites.
A huge thank you for keeping it alive.
Congrats for the skin/mesh milestone and the Herofile utility update, but I've got a question about it: Does it now cover all of the FFX3.3 attributes? Because, in the Herofile utility I'm using, some attributes (such as Combat Expert, among others,) that I added in-game disappear, and I have to re-add them in-game later on. Does this update fix that, or are there still some attributes it can't handle?
Congratulations! Your site was what got me into Freedom Force series in the first place. @kkhohoho: There is an ini file in the programs directory where you can add any custom attribute to the list.

@kkhohoho: There is an ini file in the programs directory where you can add any custom attribute to the list.
I've tried, but next to every full name of an attribute, there's a slightly different version of the name, like so: 'Accidental Change, accidentalchange'. And the second version comes out differently for each attribute, such as: 'Air Superiority, ffqairsuperiority'. So unless I know what the second version of the name for an attribute like Combat Skill is, the actual attribute won't register when loading up a herofile with such an attribute. Does anyone know how I can get a list of FFX attributes that look like those second versions I'm referring to? If so, please let me know.
Open up the "strings.txt" in your mod's "Lang" folder.
Search for the attribute's name, in-game.
For example, look for "Human Cannonball" and you'll find:
attrib_cannonball_01, human cannonball
attrib_cannonball_desc_01, when you blast off your skin is surrounded by a shield and you cause an explosion when you land.
The name in bold is the "other name" that you're looking for.

Thanks. Unfortunately, while I managed to find the proper name for Combat Skill and edited into the Hero File Editor, the attribute still doesn't show up when I load up my Batman, who I gave the Master version of the skill to. The skill shows up in the dropdown box for attributes, but I'm not sure if the attribute will actually work or not when I boot up the game. I guess I could just give it a try for myself, though that won't be for a bit.
Hmmm... that's pretty strange. Which version of EZHero are you using?

Now, I'm using the latest, 3.5.
Alex, thank you for everything you have brought to the Community. Your site is part of the reason that it's still going strong.

You might be wonder why I'm posting this picture here. Well, Alex isn't in his Freedom Fortress at the moment; he and his family are travelling. And yesterday, after more years than either of need to admit, Alex and I met in person yesterday.
Hope you guys made it in time for the complimentary breakfast ;) That being said that is awesome guys
:minute: :mentor: FOR FREEDOM! :eldiablo: :manbot:
Awesome!!!
That is very cool
Nice to see some Old Guard hanging out.
That is really cool guys, I would love to be able to spend an afternoon and hang with some of my fellow FR Members. Color me jealous. :D
Yep finally meeting KennX himself was an epic moment! :)
Quick update today - I fixed the Send to Text bug in EZHero. You can once again create text file summaries of your hero files. Thanks to Benton for pointing out the bug (which was likely there for a few versions - I don't normally use this feature so didn't notice the problem!) I improved the code a little so it now also automatically names the text file the same as your hero file and puts it on your desktop.
Sorry there's been no update for a while. Job and RL keeping me busy.
Do have some stuff from DaGlob and Kenn that I've been slowly(!) putting up, so hopefully an update very soon.
Finally, an update! (thx to DaGlob!)

Kenn... yep. Sorry, that's going up in the next update (I mention it on the home page)
spydermann93: thx - I've fixed the FF link. The ant-Man (DC) is actually not up there yet - in the next batch, but I mistakenly put it into my db. Will remove the entry for now
The Kookie Quartet, by the way, are DC characters. They had dealings with the Inferior 5.
oops. fixed that! (had copied a record to make a new one and forgot to change that column)
Today, I have a nifty new Wonder Man pack with various incarnations of Marvel's Mr. Williams. Courtesy of KennX!

i have a big problem with your fantastic Wonder Man Stuff...it doesent work in the CharTool2 and when i convert it with EZNifconvert the Program stops with an error message...
are the meshes for FF1 ?
All my stuff is for FF1. I don't have and have never used FF2.
There's a thread... I think in the Hex Editing section... about my meshes not converting to FF2. I'm still not sure what it is that I do that makes the conversion process break.
Oops. No it's in the Requests section http://freedomreborn.net/forums/index.php?topic=57119.msg773167#msg773167 (http://freedomreborn.net/forums/index.php?topic=57119.msg773167#msg773167)
Since Heroidosilencio had the same problem while he was trying to beta-test for me, I'll ask him and/or Hoss20 to send the FFvt3R versions to Alex so they can be added to the file.
Thanks to hoss20 for converting Kenn's Wonder Man pack to FFV3R. Both sets are now included in the download.
Thanks, Hoss20!!
And, thank you Alex.

Quick update today - more great stuff from DaGlob (and more on the way)

Hurray! Another great update!
Quick question: Is "V for Vendetta" supposed to be in this update? I see it in the update on the site and on DaGlob's page, but I don't see it here and the link's broken.
It's not an update (although I think I fiddled with it a little). I couldn't find it in my groups, and someone else said it wasn't there.
What a great update, I love seeing these MLJ Characters. I'm so far behind on my Skopes right now, otherwise I'd be joining you in seeing more of these guys.
I've fixed the v for vendetta pic and link
(my server is case sensitive so sometimes typos screw up links)
Thank you Alex!

Appreciate the donation, WyldeFyre!
Been going through tons of old FF stuff in folders on my drives.
Found a few meshes/skins I didn't know I had which I will post.
A recent cleanup/reorg of my hard drives turned up a number of skins and skopes by Courtnall6 that I had not yet posted. Some are older versions of skins I did already have, some are updates to standard skins C6 did for meshes, and some are golden oldies I came across. I had to create new previews for most of these, as well as adding keyframes when needed, so it took me a little while. Putting up 24 in all right now, with more to come in the future.

I continue my cleanup/reorg of my hard drives by posting 26 classic meshes by Beyonder. I've added preview pics, keyframes, and FFv3R versions as needed. I am also working on some additional Beyonder goodies for my next post.

Gotten a long way through cleaning up my hard drive and the good news is it pays off in more goodies. Today, I'm posting 16 more downloads from The Beyonder. I've grouped his classic male variants into a few multi-pack downloads, so the total number of meshes I'm posting is a big 78!
Special thanks to the folks who made this update possible:
- DaGlob for whipping up 10 brand new standard skins for the male_cape variants. Check em all out, some nice work there!
- Wyldfyre for skoping a male_cape_gloves variant (and nobelt version) when I realized it didn't exist (and I really wanted a complete set! :) ) .
- Hoss20 for fixing a problem with the hair meshes so they would work in FFv3R as well as FF. He also corrected a texture issue I was having with the male_cape_gloves_boots mesh.
- And of course Beyonder for making all this in the first place (plus Firestorm for the many default skins)!
- I've also included a never-released male_bald_suit mesh Beyonder did for me when I requested it for the JLA Mod. (meant for Lex). Never used it in the mod, but now you all get to have it, complete with a quick default skin I whipped up.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I've updated EZHero to properly handle the paths for the GOG versions of both FF games (now that there is a GOG FF game!) I personally use the GOG versions of both games so I've also gone back and updated the installers for various other add-ons and mods to provide GOG paths in the informational help (I had Steam paths there for a while and now show Steam, GOG, and CD paths). I've done this for EZ Danger Room, FFv3R Mod Tools, Real Reich, Superhero TV, DC Universe Mod, JLA: Pawns of Darkness, The Super Powers Mod, and the X-Mod.
Didn't do EZFX yet as I'm planning big updates for both of those installers.
Very nice—much appreciated, Alex :) And great news on EZFX!
Awesome work Alex! I'm excited to see all this stuff being updated and added! :)
And now it's time to dim the lights, turn up the music and pour a glass of Courvoisier ... yes, my friends, The Ladies Man (aka Interceptor) is featured on today's update . I've put up 25 of his fine meshes and skins for your gaming adventures. Enjoy!

Great update, Alex!
But I have one question: is it just me, or is your site acting really slow? Usually, I have no problems browsing your site, but the downloads and images take a very long time to load.
I thought that it might have been my connection, but other image heavy sites load just fine for me.
EDIT: Seems better now. I have no idea what was going on, lol :P
I completely forgot that Emma Frost mesh existed. Wow. Thank you Alex.
Wait now that I think about it didnt Beyonder have a similar Emma Frost mesh as well?

Yes, AA, Beyonder had a mesh of Emma Frost that IPS skinned that I think was called female_basic_noheels_flats..or something like such. Know he did do one thugh.
Female Platforms BYD.
DG, can you send me that mesh by BYD? I've been collecting all his female ones and hadn't come across that one.
On its way...

Plus, I've started a new visual record of maps (an Atlas, if you will) as an aid to modders, available on the Goodies page. Only a few maps from the original game listed so far, but it will grow.
More Globby Goodness and Map Madness!?! Count me in!

Daglob is a Machine! :D Releasing more Content in a Week than I do in a year...Man, I'm jealous. :P
Alex, the Atlas is an awesome idea, what a fantastic Resource. Thank you for all the work you're putting into your Site.
A big-time update today to welcome in August.
First up, more lost treasures from my backup hard drive. There are 20 skins/meshes from the resident artists. And I'll pause to point out that, with this update, the Fortress now proudly hosts over 2,000 skins and meshes !
(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/EI/BaronZemo_1964.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/EI/Falcon_1972.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/EI/Golden_Archer.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/EI/Madame_Masque_1977.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/EI/Mandarin_1964.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/EI/Nekra.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/EI/Nighthawk_1969.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/EI/Nuklo_1974.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/EI/Powerman_1.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/EI/Swordsman_1974.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/EI/The_Cat_1972.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/EI/Umar.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/EI/Yellow_Claw_1967.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/FS/DoctorDoomFS.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/FS/parademon_acidFS.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/FS/parademon_energyFS.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/FS/parademon_fireFS.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/GC/UltraBoy_Classic.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/JF/TM_archer_gloves_bootcuff.jpg)(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/LM/Firestar.jpg)
But wait ! That's not all! Alex's Atlas has been updated and now shows all the maps from the original Freedom Force game - 68 in all! I've also converted the Atlas to work off a database, to make future maintenance easier and other features possible in the future.
I have updated art on some of my "Goodies".
And finally - a quick update on mods:
As I've done for other mods on my site, I've updated the Suicide Squad Mod installer to more easily support the GOG and Steam versions of FF (default is GOG). I also added a launch EXE like I have on other mods. The installer places a shortcut to this on your desktop when installing. Basically, it just makes it easy to install and play the mod (plus using the latest install creation software made the download file a bit smaller)
I have done some work to get the Freedom Force (original game) Mod working properly. Fixed the Mission 2 bug by scripting a workaround. Fixed some maps that weren't working right, added some missing head.nifs, and fixed the strings throughout the game. Hope to get this re-released in the near future. Thanks to Yellow Lantern and Spydermann93 for their testing help so far!
Whoot! New art looks great.
Fantastic update.
Great stuff!
Cool stuff. Zemo looks great!
Man...2,000 Skins and Meshes!!! Incredible!!!
Just realized the Zemo skin was missing the hexed nif. I've added it to the pack and also created a version that works for FF in the same pack.
Always great to see your site rockin steady. Congrats on hitting the watermark.
I've been tied up with lots of real-life stuff, but wanted to put something out to let you know the fortress is still here.
I've updated the FF mod for FFv3R (after many many years!). Now renamed "FF Classic for FFv3R" - several bugs have been fixed, so it should work all the way through at least level 10! May work further but I haven't played further. Let me know if you find bugs! Get it on the Mods page!
A huge special thanks to yell0w_Lantern and spydermann93 for testing the mod (and thx YL, for the fixed abomb nif)!
Coming soon (hopefully) ... I am just about ready to release the long-delayed EZFX 6.1 as well as my still-nameless app that auto-installs meshes. Look for them in October!
And a Fortress update wouldn't be complete without more magic from DaGlob (this time, with a collaboration with J_Foam as well!)
Enjoy the 18 new skins/meshes !

Hey Alex.
Great Update. I'm getting a 404 file not found error on Swamp Thing and Whisper. Just a head's up.
Hey Alex, I might have a few more FX for :ffvstr: floating around that I had done for Benton's Marvel Mod. If you're interested, I could try to find them for you.
The zip for Whisper is broken.
Thx WF - both links fixed now.
Cyber, sure more fx would be great.
Re-posted the FF Classic Mod, the version I put up a couple of days ago was a slightly older build than the latest one (oops!). This one has corrected even more bugs. I've titled this download FFClassic_v3, so you'll know you have the latest. Grab it on the Mods page.
Question: has anyone heard from Alex recently? Am a bit concerned a bit seeing as there's so much there and would be sad to possibly lose it.
I have been e-mailing him, last time I got a response was Friday. He mentioned recently that he, too, was having computer trouble. Hopefully he has enough stuff now for an update...
Thanks DG, I was worried something worse had happened or that we would have to start dling and backing up the site. While rough, comp troubles are the best possible problems.
@abenavides:
Been awhile since I popped in at Alexsff. PC got wiped out and wanted to thank you for having all the set-up stuff nice, neat and handy. Saved me a lot of time and I'm back up to making stuff already. I really like the :ffvstr: tool installer, this was my first time using that one. Not a pertinent request mind you but is their anyway to make a nif converter without dot.net? I can just as well convert my stuff through Blender but I miss the convenience of that program. Problem is 8.1 has compatibility issues with dot.net. Like I said not a pressing thing but just in the event you can. Thanks again for the great long standing site Alex, don't know where we would be without you.
*edit: Actually nvmd, I got it working. The trick is to copy over all the needed files into the program directory.

I have been e-mailing him, last time I got a response was Friday. He mentioned recently that he, too, was having computer trouble. Hopefully he has enough stuff now for an update...
He has a fair amount of my crap I sent him recently.
Hey, Kenn! Great to see you!
So, we'll get new stuff from you? Great news. Looks like this will be a great anniversary.
Oops, forgot where to promote releases, it's been so long!
Anyway, EZFX 6.1 now available at my site.
Thats amazing alex, right in time for some new hero files. Do i have to merge the dats to ensure the existing fx i have made will be maintained?
Yes, as always, if you have manually installed FX, backup your fx.dat and sounds.dat files before installing.
and them merge them back in using ffedit.
Sorry I didn't get to finish up those last few FX/sound combos Alex, maybe for the next release?
Awesome! I can't wait to check this out! Thanks for creating more amazing content for us, Alex!  Also, I love the big, extensive reference for it. That's going to be handy!
No worries, Cyber. Definitely can include in an update!
Benton - glad you like the update. Hopefully useful to you. I started doing it 4 years so I would have more stuff to use in mods myself.
Yes, I have now doubled the number of 2019 updates.
First, a minor (but useful) change to the site. The EZ Search feature now appears right at the top of all Skins & Meshes pages, saving you clicks if you're looking for something.
Alex's Atlas has 49 new map entries: including the 4 "blank" terrains from the original Freedom Force game (they came with the original FF editor) and all the FFv3R maps! It's just one long page with pics right now, but hope to make it filterable soon.
And finally, more offerings from our resident artists:
- A sweet new Wonder Woman mesh and 5-skin pack from DaGlob
(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/DG/wonder_woman_gren_hex.jpg)
- Still cleaning out my folders all these years later. Here are 11 more meshes and 24 keyframes files by Beyonder.

Probably been years since I did 3 updates in a month but here we are! First up, more works by our resident artists!

But wait ! There's more! The first new EZ Hero in 4 years!
This new 4.0 version adds some significant new features:
NIF Convert - yes, you can now convert a mesh from FF to FFv3R format directly in EZ Hero. It leaves your old mesh as a backup (renamed with an "ff_" prefix). It does not require NET framework to be installed and also supports stumpy's lighting fix as an option
Mesh Install - instantly install a mesh to the right folder! Great for newbs or lazy people like me! Select a mesh to install with the button or, EVEN BETTER, just drag and drop a mesh (or multiple meshes at once!) onto the EZ Hero screen to get them all installed. EZ Hero will warn you if a mesh folder already exists. Also, for mesh archives that have FF and FFv3R files in them - it will even install only the ones you need for the game you have listed in your settings. Check out the EZ Hero page for more info! NOTE: The vast majority (I'd guess 90-95%) of mesh archives will work but those that use uncommon folder structures or multi-packs won't. Always have backups!
This is great news, with EZHero 4! Great work, Alex!
Also, I just love the pose of the nearly naked guy in Daglob's new additions! That's hilarious!

Great job on that new version of EZ Hero. Very robust yet streamlined, I like it lots.
Thx! I spent a little time thinking what I could do to make it very fast to use when converting stuff. So I designed it that way,
An update of EzHero! That is a great new! Thanks Abenavides!
With summer coming up, I'm back with another Fortress update! For starters, I've added a little slide show of Freedom Force pics at the top of this homepage. Will add more pics in the future as this initial attempt was just a quick test of some code .
Also in this update, I post more classic stuff from Renegade's Toybox!

And finally, I've created a new version of the FF Classic Mod, the first one since 2016! Version 5 has a number of changes, including:
Fix for missing truck error in mission 4
Fix for crash in mission 5 when Nick speaks and for clicking on "dead" Nick
Fix for turrets in mission 4
Fix for some missing caption text
Adjusted Mission1 point awards so MinuteMan can purchase power in mission 2 tutorial (FFv3R has different pt calculations than FF, which causes a problem)
Added the original menu screens from FF
Added the opening Irrational animation (Sea Urchin) from FF
Added the credits from FF
Added the start intro from FF
Relabeled TEAM button to TRAIN and RUMBLE ROOM to DANGER ROOM
New, cleaner launch shortcut
There are likely still bugs left to find, but this version is much closer to the classic FF experience. Grab it on the MODS page!
Woohoo! Thanks for all the great updates.
Wow, awesome Alex! Fast work!
Thx guys!
Benton, the new launch method I'm using might be interesting to you. It avoids false anti-virus reports and that dosbox message when launching . I'm using a very simple vbscript . I will eventually update all my mods to use it.
Let me know if you need any help trying it out for your stuff.
Hey Alex, I'm not sure if anyone has said anything yet, but just in case, in the new releases, in Renegade's section, the "Jade (female basic green lantern)" has a broken link.
On a side note, it is so cool having you back in the game and seeing the Fortress getting updated so frequently.
Thanks for all the hard work that you're putting into this.
What he said. It's nice seeing those Ren meshes, invokes a lot of nostalgia from when I was a kid (thirty something ahem). I obvs. have a thing for those Lantern ones.
Thx guys! I'll check that link right now, Cyber
EDIT: link fixed.
Thanks, Alex, I more than likely already have that Mesh downloaded half a dozen times, but I'm feeling lazy today and don't feel like digging my disks out, so it's just much easier to redownload everything. :D
lol. I do that all the time too.

I just tried the EZFX links and they both (FF and FFv3r versions) worked for me . What msg are you getting when you try them.
One thing to look for is some browsers block downloading EXE files by default (fearing they are a problem). You just need to tell it to keep it anyway.
A quick but historic update today. It only took about 18 years, but I've now posted the remaining Beyonder meshes I had on my hard drive. His X-Men Evolution collection is now complete. I've also split the generic male mesh packs into individual downloads with keyframes (over 70 meshes). Finally, I've added the female generic meshes (more than 50, featuring standard skins by Firestorm!) If there are other Beyonder meshes I'm unaware of, let me know!
Note that all the downloads in the artist sections now indicate SKIN or MESH, so you know what to expect.

Also in this update, I've posted an updated Freedom Force Classic Mod (v6) to correct a problem with the installer. Thanks to spydermann93 for catching it.
Finally, a special thanks to DaGlob for creating FFv3R fixes for some older meshes by Greycount (Flare, Lamprey, Lightning Lass, Phantom Girl). Thanks to him, we can now enjoy them in FFv3R. He has also sent me some fixes for a few KennX meshes which I will add to my next update.
Keeping the streak alive, here's another update for all you Freedom Force fans out there!
First up, there's a new update of the Freedom Force Classic Mod (now at version 7). This latest update fixes some missing NIFs that cause a crash on the Prehistoric Panic mission. (And I double-tested the installer to avoid my usual mistake when I build this mod for distribution!)
Also this month, the EZFX credits pages have been updated to show the version of EZFX that a specific FX was first released in. I also changed the formatting to make it a bit easier to read and corrected a database problem that was causing the page to not always show all the FX. I am still working on EZFX version 6.2.
Thanks to DaGlob for putting together FFv3R versions of some KennX meshes that would not convert to FFv3R. They are actually found in Lightning Man's Gallery, as Kenn did them for LM. We can now enjoy them in FFv3R!

My site? It's up.
It was down for a bit yesterday. Kept getting IP address cannot be resolved error. But it was working again last night so I dunno.
Funnily, I couldn't get to Freedomreborn for a day or so last week.
I didn't get any message from my ISP re: my site , which I normally would, so must been some internet glitch with DNS or something.
First post of 2021. With the everything going on in the world the last few months, haven't played around with FF lately, but I do have some updates in the works!
A quick one today - a new update of the Freedom Force Classic Mod (now at version 8). Even though I'd added missing NIFs for the Prehistoric Panic mission in v7, a lack of mesh bounding boxes meant it as impossible to complete the mission. Thanks to NyDedes for sending me a fixed NIF file. I've also patched up problems in Missions 10, 14, and 16. I am aware of an issue in Mission 19 (that will require a fixed NIF file - I just have to make the time to fix it). There's also a minor issue in Level 1 if you're doing the tutorial. Other than that, FF Classic should be playable up to 19, so we're almost 100%. Get it on the Mods page!
Question and site note if you're around. Wondering if you know anything about installing FFX on Windows 10 x64. It just won't install the paths correctly which are pretty important when it comes to this game of course. Else site is you're zip link for Ren's WW2 Captain America is broken.
Hey SA,
Try this fix: http://www.freedomreborn.net/forums/index.php?topic=60434.msg825588#msg825588
It has worked wonders for me.
Also, sometimes running the base game can get Win10 to recognize your game's path correctly. It's kind of hit or miss, though.
Just to be clear then the target is the installer exe? This makes sense by the way. And yeah Win 10, at least it's current version is way hit and miss anyways especially when it comes to older games.

No, you target your ffxedit2.exe.
It's the third "C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich" search result that you find that you should replace.
It'll be awhile but I'll come back with results when I do. I "think" I was having an issue where the initial installation itself failed but don't quote me, it's been a long year. At any rate this stuff should be documented and perhaps provided in a doc with the download itself.

Also, sometimes running the base game can get Win10 to recognize your game's path correctly. It's kind of hit or miss, though.
So I followed this to a tee (nothing needed to be zero'd out that I saw though) and the result was an unusable .exe. To be clear found third instance of "irrational games". Replaced C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich with C:\GOG Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich (this highlights in red after copy and paste Ctrl+V). Only zeroes after until the "r". Saved. Unusable .exe with no icon with a .bak file next to it, trying to open it gives an error warning. Where did I go wrong? It's been years since I used hex by the way, in fact same program and it was Alex that suggested to me at the time as well (was on XP S2 then I think?).
Also noting this here, I kind of get this but I don't understand where this change is supposed to made?

Ok, so I think I saw your directory in your post.
I'm not sure which is correct, but download the one that is correct and put it in your :ffvstr: directory.
C:\GOG\Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich: https://www.mediafire.com/file/p2ncloirrhoymmz/ffxedit2-1.zip/file
C:\GOG Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich: https://www.mediafire.com/file/p27huvreuep437t/ffxedit2-2.zip/file
If neither of these are right, lemme know what your :ffvstr: path is so I can correct them.
Same directory yeah, I typically keep FF games in their native for the obvious reasons. And thank you, either or works. So what was your method just for my knowledge. I figure I skipped some important basic Hex step here, again it's been so long. Feels like as like as DOS.
Maybe an idea that Alex here host that patch on his site. Most people are going to have the same directory as it is.
Going to ask while I'm here if there's a straightforward tutorial for scripting. Say I'll want to know how to futz with the summoner, amalgam and or driver attributes (I don't know if driver summons a vehicle or not). I have an idea of some things I think would add comic book type functionality to the game that we're otherwise missing.
1) So is it working for you now? If not, lemme know.
2) When I opened ffxedit2.exe in HxD, I searched for the third entry of "C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom". On the right-hand side, in the "Decoded Text" column, I replaced this
C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich.....r
C:\GOG\Games\Freedom Force vs the 3rd Reich..........................r
I made sure to type my path in the "Decoded Text" column and and anything that wasn't needed after my path in the Offset block in the middle column, I replaced with "00" up to the "72" (the "r" in the "Decoded Text" column). That's what is sounds like you did, but I'm not sure what went wrong. Perhaps you added some bytes by accident?
3) In your "ffx3\manual" folder, open up the "Index.html". That has a guide on every attribute added through FFX3.3. It should guide you on how to make the changes you want. The FFX Control Centre (ffxedit2) will allow you to modify some attributes, but others you'll have to open your "ffx3\Missions\Scripts\ffxcustom.py" or "ffx3\Missions\Scripts\ffxcustom2.py" file to add entries manually. Once you get the process down, it definitely gets easier.
I do recommend using Notepad++ if you don't have it already. It's a great (free) tool that helps modifying text and python files a lot.
If you're asking how to change the actual code for Summoner, etc., and not just modify a character's use of it, that might take some more python know-how than I can readily provide. The code for the attribute should be located in "ffx3\Missions\Scripts\ffx.py"
Your files work yes, either or. I didn't add the additional ".'s" That's what I missed.
Just a quick note - have updated the look of the site. It's been the same for years now so I thought I'd make a change. Nothing radical, just color, fonts, and the layout of the toolbar. May make other changes in the future, but this will do for now. Hoping to have some more content soon.
As part of my ongoing quest to organize my Freedom Force files, I'm posting a bunch of 15 meshes/skins by resident artist - Interceptor. All of these should work in FF or FFv3R. I have been going through all existing meshes on my site to make sure they work for both games, including conversions when needed.

Awesome! Thanks Alex!

Love what you're doing with the museum, WF. and yeah, I still have plenty to post for my resident artists.
As many in the Freedom Force community know, we sadly lost resident Fortress artist and all-around wonderful guy DaGlob earlier this year. DG was a source of not only great content for the FF games as you can see on this very site, but also a font of comics knowledge and genuine good will. He always went out of his way to help others, including me. Whether it was tracking down that elusive skin or mesh or just answering questions about the game. I still remember asking him to be a resident artist. He was surprised that I was interested as he tended to focus on obscure characters from yesteryear rather than those from the big 2 comics publishers. I explained that's why I loved his stuff. His enthusiasm and knowledge just leaped out at you.
I still have items of his to post and will continue to add to his gallery here. I managed to find an FF-version of his Spider-Girl Arana, so I've updated that file so it works for both games. I've also added Claude Raines as the Phantom of the Opera, Spider-Girl, 2 versions of the Werwolf of London, TM Man-Bot X, Green Goblynne, Granny Goodness (thanks for making a FFv3r version, Randomdays), Airboy, Cobra Commander, an armed Sailor, and Tarzan with abs. Thanks for everything, DG.

Alex, I'm very glad you've found more of our friend's work! Thank you for helping to preserve his legacy.
I am going to separate and pass you things that DaGlob did for me because I had asked him for help in various characters.
Thank you for these Alex. I miss Bill's knowledge and helpfulness every day. I'm glad to see his works still popping up.
Due to health issues i havent been able to visit this forum as much as i would want to this past year so i only recently found out about Daglob. I'm so sad to hear it and he has always been a force of kindness and putting aisde his own problem to help others. May he rest in peace
If I could bug someone here, everyone seems to have this down. So FFX for GOG (Win10 x64).
All installed in the proper order and that ffxedit2 patch as well.
It's been awhile and I was on XP back then so some of this was different.
My only icon present is a shortcut to Play FFX.
It leads to nowhere and there is no FFX.exe in the installation directory.
Clicking error prompts and asks me to located ffvt3r.exe
Doing so of course just plays standard :ffvstr:, not FFX.
What am I missing?
Ok, so apparently I cannot post any file directories since they give me a server error when posting, so here's a screenshot of my post:
Start in line was identical to Target line sans exe. I change it match yours and added the last two lines. I have the ffvt3r.exe and in it's proper directory, :ffvstr: works the same always. But Freedom Force X isn't opening at all, it just opens into regular :ffvstr:, like without any modification, new attributes and so forth. Noting that options Data Folder and Customizations are also blank when it runs, I know that should look different.
*edit: You got me thinking about something by mentioning paths. I remember having a problem where the FFEdit paths where messed up. Screenshot as well then. This doesn't look right at all does it?

Quote from: SickAlice on May 23, 2022, 08:14:27 PMThis doesn't look right at all does it?
FFEdit uses those paths to know where to look for the .dat files to modify.
The path for the game exe and the level editor exe are in the main game folder.
The primary path should point to the mod you want to modify, that mod can be the container folder of ffx3 or any other you have.
Once you indicate the paths for the primary, the nifs library (art folder) and the sound library (sound folder), the tabs available in FFEdit will be activated for you to be able to modify attributes.dat, characters.dat, fx.dat, powers.dat, res.dat (resources) and sounds.dat.
Mostly i use FFEdit to add, delete or modify the fxs in the fx tab. And the resources tab, to add fxs for use in the control center (attributes fxs: metal eatr, accidental change, etc)
Change the \\shodan\project\justice\ to \ff\
oktokels: I know those what are used for. That's why I brought it up but thanks.
bearded: Thanks, that's what I thought.
Still nothing. I run ffxedit2. Click the Play FFX 3 shortcut. The game is still normal, no FFX stuff. ffxedit2 values are still blank.
Can you post a screenshot of the properties of your ffx3 shortcut? I'm thinking it's something with that or FFX3 wasn't installed properly.
And yeah, as for your FFEdit paths, it should be ffvt3rInstallPath\Data or ffv3trInstallPath\modName
Yeah, it sounds like a problem with the shortcut paths, check that any commas or symbols are not misplaced
Should I be assigning a secondary path related to FFX in the edit? It's been a long time and installation on this OS is just weird.
spydermann93: Here. It's a patched file, you actually sent this to me earlier in this thread.
Ahhh, I think I see what the issue is.
It looks like you double-layered FFX3 into your ffx3 folder. You see how you have an ffx3 folder in your ffx3 folder? That shouldn't be the case.
Basically everything in that ffx3 folder there should be moved up to your Freedom Force vs the 3rd Reich folder.
You'll see in my data folder I have an ffx3 folder as well as ffxedit2.exe
Spoiler

and here's what my ffx3 folder looks like; you'll see no extra ffx3 folder in there

Glad you got it working now!
spydermann93: And I laughed at myself which is good. I was having a tough day. Thanks again for all the help (I was looking right at it lol!).
As I started posting this update, I realized my site is now in its 20th year! Never would have predicted that when I posted a few hero files way back then. Thanks to the artists and fans who still drop by.
This update has some skins from my archives (my slowly-getting-organized hard drive) by Saracen, including the complete classic Royal Flush gang!
(http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/SC/rfgace.jpg) (http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/SC/rfgjack.jpg) (http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/SC/rfgking.jpg) (http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/SC/rfgqueen.jpg) (http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/SC/rfgten.jpg) (http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/SC/hi-jack.jpg) (http://alexff.com/images/skinmesh/SC/CaptainNazi.jpg)
But wait! There's more ... I finally get around to posting some of my own skins and mesh skopes. I don't consider myself an artist but I did pick up some Photoshop and skoping skills over the years. Some of these have been on my hard drive for over a decade, just never got around to releasing them. I do have some others I need to clean up a bit, so there will be more eventually. For now, I'm starting with skins for Amazing Grace, Desaad, Etrigan (updated for Ink's mesh), and a Psycho-Pirate 2pack. For meshes, I have a classic Aquaman skope and a Kyle Rayner skope (with C6 skins) .

20 years and still going strong. Beautiful stuff and I?m grabbing all of them. Thank you.
Congratulations on 20 years strong!!! Here's to 20 more!!!
Congrats on 20 years Alex! Always been a big fan of the fortress.
A marvelous achievement Alex! And an enormous source of material for all the :ff: lovers.
Thank you man!
20 years of service and we are thankful for it. And your skins look great, you know what you're doing.
Congratulations on your 20th birthday, your webpage is a classic, and one of the first i found when entering the :ffvstr: modding community.
Here's for many years more.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away i discover this website. I thought at the same time: I'm dreaming? A lot of characters for DC and Marvel and mods too for a game? Finally i discovered Freedom Force , this forum and the people creating characters, mods, tools and lot of pages too. Now, compare a game of Marvel or DC for Android for example with a mod for Freedom Force. The mods for Freedom Force has voices, animations and jobs of geniuses. The games for Android of DC and Marvel are ridiculous and they shutdown these games in few years. Congratulations because you're the true hero here for never give up and never shutdown this website. And the "normal" games? For every ten people that i see on the internet one person praise and nine say to boycott these games. If Marvel and Warner hire the modders of this forum this problem will disappear(Lol).
20 years, that's amazing! Alex, your site has meant more to me than I can say. It is no exaggeration to say that your site, the herofile formulas, and your DC mod, are directly responsible for everything I've created. Thank you for all that you've given this community!

BentonGrey, do you remember the movie with Will Smith(I Am Legend)? Is exactly what you and Alex are. If i pay a good money for you create mods Benton ? This would help you have more time to create mods?
Haha, why thank you, Borgaster! Man, I'd love to get paid to create mods, but I would hesitate to take money right now, because I couldn't promise to work any faster. I have a lot of responsibilities and commitments by which I am bound, and my time for FF is limited. I have thought about putting a donate button on my site, though, just for anyone who wanted to throw money at me, haha! :D I couldn't do a Patreon page or anything, because I couldn't guarantee any kind of return on an investment, but I wouldn't mind it if fans bought me the occasional cup of tea!

Benton, i understand because i has the same problem. Because of it that i never will be time for study and create a good mod for this game. Modders like you are billions away distance of me for create a good mod for this game. But only in this place will be possible with these mods appear good games about DC and Marvel. So I thought to myself : Why not put my money on the guys like you that really understand what is a good game for DC and Marvel ?

Hello oktokels, how are you ? Yes, i pay, but, ok, let's start for the game of my dreams. A game about Superman with all characters of Multiverse, all actors of the Movies and Series. Is better than this mod be standalone(The game with the mod), So, a total conversion of the game. If you do it i wiil transform you in a billionaire(Lol). You accept?

But maybe later if i'm out of cash, unemployed and have more time available I'll contact you.
For now, maybe there is someone else who has more needs and more modding knowledge than me who can help you.
Or maybe you can spend some time studying modding techniques so you can make the game of your dreams come true. I bet this community will be willing to contribute with their knowledge.

Yes, Benton, i agree, Aquaman inspired your life and Superman my life. I started to practice martial arts since i was a child because of Superman, i did my best to be a better person because of Superman and finally i found a spiritual philosophy calling Gnosis(that believe in Jesus) for try be Superman(Lol). oktokels , thanks anyway, i will not give up because this is a matter of honor and personal(Lol). The best Animation that i watched was Justice League and Justice League Unlimited(this in the case of DC) that was amazing like any good japanese anime. Warner missed the chance to win millions for don't create a game for this animation. Have a great week !

Yeah, Aquaman definitely deserves a good game, though I would hate to see what the modern masters would make for him. There was a fairly bad game for the XBox once, years ago now.

Benton, the problem is that good or not they in the past made different games. But, i agree, bad games, maybe only save Justice League Heroes and Injustice 1 & 2. The problem is not DC but these guys of Modern Warner that don't has IQ. The case of new game Gi Joe Operation Blackout(GameMill), good game that is possible play with Gi Joe or Cobra. Jedi Academy and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (Classic, 2005) never will die because good modders are creating total conversions for these games and put all characters of Star Wars Universe. An example of a japanese game that never will need one single mod : Saint Seiya: Soldiers Soul, this game has all sagas of the anime, all characters for unlock and mode VS inclusive with CPU x CPU. Because of the tools, mods, and a lot of characters created is possible make the same thing with Freedom Force. I'm registered in your channel of Youtube and in your Page. Don't is the case to the modders of this forum create channels for show the mods, the pages and attract the people for this forum ? Has a lot of people that don't know that Freedom Force exist.
Thank you Alex...
Awesome!!!
THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE GIVEN US
If I could be a pest once more, I find I'm getting results in this thread. I've resolved most of all installation issues now except one which is generating language files. I've used various settings, that is changing the spaces within the speech txt, pointing to level up directories and having the sounds within a named folder or not to not avail. Everything is where it should be and everything is set-up as it should be in the Editor. I note that I am not new to this, that seems to come up for some reason or another? I've been with you working on this stuff since the first game came out, before Nifskope existed and when one version of Max was the only tool available to make nifs with. I've added voices and sounds without any problem over the course of a decade easily. All this only started as of this new laptop, OS and Steam version of the game. Assume the settings are as they are standard. Security has been enabled for all files and folders as well. A generic error message pings back with no description as to why it is when I attempt to generate language files. No voice is present in game either in spite of being assigned. TY to anyone who can crack the case.

Grab it now on the Mods page.
to which DC mod is he referring in this
The Super powers mod. It's on my site.
Bravo on twenty years of the Freedom Fortress, Alex (and to the other folks whose work resides there)!

Hey, I don't come around often anymore, but I wanted to say congrats to this! Your website was one of the first I'd ever seen, and it got me into skinning in the first place.
Thank you so much for your efforts!
it is a pillar in the community, good job
A shot in the dark I've been trying to figure out for over a year in the event the FFX crew knows. I've had a problem finding settings for :ffvstr: and otherwise I just look at in game files and figure them out.
I know there is something in map called "teleport". This is a marker I think where a character say steps on spot A or interacts with it will move to an established point B. But I have no idea what settings need to be added or changed where and can't seem to find them anywhere. If anyone knows TY. I have some big ideas for this.
Just for example we can see Dr. Mike mentioning it here. But what the variables that need to be added exactly?
