Agreed.  It's an absolute classic.  It's simple, minimalist, yet perfectly evocative.  Just about the only thing that could be improved is the logo, and different artists handled it differently.

I really feel like I shouldn't like this costume. It's all red and pretty basic, but it completely works. The colour, logo, and horns all play nicely to the devil motif, and I've always liked how the red eyes as they remind me he is blind.
It looks great in classic or modern art so I gave it a love.

Right Pod, it shouldn't work, but it does.  It's the kind of thing that could only work for this character, though, as it fits him so perfectly.

You guys said it best, and I agree. This is way too simple, but it just works. Love the costume.
