Title: Pulp Voices
Post by: BentonGrey on July 24, 2016, 10:07:36 PM
Howdy guys, I'm putting the finishing touches to my Pulp Adventures mod, and I am looking to add voices to my roster of characters.  I've found packs for several, (the Shadow, Phantom, and Rocketeer), but am looking to find appropriate fits for the rest.  Any suggestions would be welcome!

Any suggestions?

Have you been to this group:

There used to be sites with audio clips from assorted movies and such, but I can't find exactly what I'm looking for now.

  • Conan: I KNOW there's something fitting for him; I just can't find it

Any suggestions?

Have you considered male_knight?

Thanks for the responses, guys.  I'm a little surprised that there isn't an Indiana Jones voice pack.  I imagine someone more enterprising than myself could cobble one together out of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, but I can't even find the sound files there.

Hmm, good suggestion Or, but I think that's a bit too noble for Conan.

I've been toying with this today, and here's what I'm thinking:
Mandrake = cq_drstrange
Spider = cq_moon_knight
Miss Fury = cq_elektra?
Avenger = male_menacing
Green Lama = maledruid
Kato = MaleMonk
John Sunlight = sh_Magneto
Doc Savage = sh_superman

Obviously, I'd need generic versions of some of those, but that's easy enough to do.

Mandrake was on radio also. So was The Avenger, but he was changed to be more like The Shadow (the radio version).

Me, I don't know how to make voicepacks out of this, but someone may.

Yeah, I've listened to a few of Mandrake's episodes, but unfortunately they don't have that many of his, it seems.  I've liked what I've heard.  All the King Features shows were good.

Ohh man...the Avenger...I really can't stand that show.  It's just such a cheap ripoff of the Shadow.  I was so excited when I discovered it existed, and then I was so disappointed when I actually listened to it.  They took an actually unique character and settled for a second rate Shadow.  Bah.

Here's hoping!

I've got a lot of voicepacks, if you need any, Benton my friend.

Dana!  It's always great to see you around the community, my friend.

I bet you've got something that could serve for Tarzan and Conan, what with your D&D work.  Any suggestions?

For Tarzan, I really don't know.  He'd probably sound somewhat British, since those are the first people he met who spoke English.  But for Conan, maybe male_crusader by AMHEsquire?  I do have a lot of VPs that are fantasy/adventure related that I put together for my mods...I'll have to take a look at what I have and get back to you.

Please do check out your VPs, Cmdr; I imagine you've got something that could be useful.

So, I've found a lot of things that will work, but I'm still struggling with Tarzan and Conan.  I've found the "German_Muscleman" pack that could work for Conan, as it is a parody of 'Ahhhnold,' but it is a bit goofy for the tone of the mod.  I've still got nothing for Indy.  I even looked around trying to find voicepacks for him and came up goose eggs.  If someone wants to try to create one, I'd be very thankful, but I imagine that isn't going to happen too soon.

I'm thinking maybe:

Tonto = cq_Black_Panther or sh_martian_manhunter
Kolu = Male_Knight
Captain Midnight = cq_nick_fury or male_superhero

I found some fodder for an Indy voice pack, if anyone is willing to do a bit of editing and arranging:

I probably won't be much help here, but with Tarzan, it might be easier depending on which Tarzan if you want. If you want the Tarzan from the books, you'd probably want to find something tough and strong, and yet still fairly articulate. (Bonus points if it's British.) However, if you're more partial to... just about every Tarzan adaptation under the sun, it might be a bit easier. After all, 'Me Tarzan, You Jane!' isn't exactly all that demanding. ;)

Well, I decided not to wait for someone else to do it for me, so I went back to my roots and created an Indiana Jones voice pack.  I'm not 100% happy with it, but it is done and it is usable.  You'll find it in my first Yahoo group.
