Can you have multiple instances of FF and/or FFvtTR installed on your computer as long as shortcuts point to different directories? I have been trying to re-install everything and realize that I have way too many skins/meshes to easily put in the Character folders. So I thought, why not have the game installed to multiple locations and then have generic meshes in one and character specific meshes in another. And maybe even a third for mods. (Although that may be overkill)
Just wondering if anyone has tried this and if it works.
If you have the game on GoG, Steam, and disc, you might be able to do it.
I'd say install GoG and Steam versions first. The Disc should be installed last so that it applies the game's registry properly. GoG and Steam are a bit finicky about it.
EDIT: Actually, using GoG or the disk, you could probably just copy the directories, create shortcuts to the ffvt3r.exe in those folders, and play from there.
That's kind of what I am wondering. I have the GOG version installed, but to a custom directory. If I installed the disk version (still have them after all these years) to say a thumb drive, would I be able to differentiate between the two?
Going to try it and see what happens.
In order to cut back on the number of Meshes/Skopes/Skins in my Characters folder, I actually use multiple Character Folders (Multiple Libraries as well). I haven't put everything back on my Laptop yet, but I had most of it on a Disk, so I can show you what that looks like. It cut back on the lag time when loading, as well as a few other issues I had. Then I just used EZ Hero to point my Hero Files to the different folders, and I was good to go.

I did with the original disc version of :ffvstr:. This was back when on XP mind you and to be honest I don't think I really needed to. I thought I wanted a separate version for work and play so to speak and that somehow grew to a third for a clean version next to FFX. I don't know where things stand on modern systems nor GOG though. My thought here would be to ask can things like ini's and such be used to create multiple configurations in order to save on drive space though the creation of that effort is outside my wheelhouse.
Thanks for the replies. Cyber, that may well be what I need to do. So you're saying - as long as the hero file points to the correct location it will load in game? In other words, I can structure the folders for custom content separately and only need to keep the hero files in the appropriate folder? If so, that solves my problem nicely.
Yeah, as of yet, I haven't had any problems running things this way, and I've actually been doing it for years. To be honest, my actual "Characters" folder in :ffvstr: is my main work file when Skoping or Skinning, then when I'm done, I put the finished Character in its correct folder.
