Howdy folks, and welcome to the first developer's diary for my new project, Saturday Morning Adventures!
Developer's Diary #1: The Punk Frogs Vs. Leatherhead
This one is all about building some new characters for the mod, The Punk Frogs and Leatherhead, from TMNT.
https://bentongrey.wordpress.com/2024/06/15/saturday-morning-adventures-developers-diary-1-the-punk-frogs-and-leatherhead/
Also, I created a short video of the test fight between these characters to show them in action.
It seems nice ! There is a version more similar to the frogs from the animated series, but the 4 are not already imported, only 1. Maybe they look better.
It also looks excellent, it was just a comment.
Hey Cranlox, thanks! Where is a different version of a Punk Frog? I haven't seen one.
Great news on Mondo Gecko! SA was more of a genius than I thought, and he made Mondo compatible with male_basic keys, so I've got all the animation choices I need. The only real issues are that he doesn't have a melee_idle, so there's not a neutral position that will reset his board to his hand if he goes from, say, riding to punching with an imported key. This leaves the board on the ground, which really doesn't look too bad. I don't know if this is possible, but if a skoper could manage to make a melee_idle deal with the board, then the anims would be pretty seamless. The last issue is that his "run" animation has him riding his board, which is great, but it has him hovering a bit above the ground, which can look a bit awkward. In the same vein, the board is bigger when he's standing on it than when he's holding it. I don't know if those things can be tweaked, but if they could then I'd say he'd be about perfect. I've already been able to import all the animations I need, and I've got him built.

The work is by Style who also made the turtle truck, which I also made on my part, basically the one that is mine is imported as I did with all the Cars characters that is why it is static without animations "which it should have"
I can't do anything with most of that, but I might be able to get the boards to be the same size.
RD, that'd be great! I've uploaded my new tweaked version to the working folder:

Thanks, Cranlox! I had forgotten about him. Now I remember that Style imported a bunch of the meshes from that TMNT mobile game. They look great, but the art style is a little too different from the rest of my resources, so I think it would look a bit odd. However, I'm wondering if we might in some way be able to use that mesh's head in combination with Daglob's skopes. That's something for me to think on.
Howdy folks, and welcome to another developer's diary, complete with a new teaser video, this time featuring half (roughly) of the Mighty Mutanimals!
Developer's Dairy #2: Meet the Mighty MutanimalsIntroducing Ray Filet/Man Ray, Mondo Gecko, Leatherhead, and Ace Duck!
If you'd like to learn about these characters and discover how I went about designing them for the mod, you can read the developer's diary HERE! (https://bentongrey.wordpress.com/2024/06/17/saturday-morning-adventures-developers-diary-2-the-mighty-mutanimals/)
If you'd like to see them in action, check out the video here:
Very cool  I do like reading these and watching the videos.
Awesome! I'm really glad you're enjoying them, Dean! You've done a huge amount to make this project possible, and I am extremely grateful for your contributions. In fact, the next update is going to contain several assets you might recognize...
Howdy folks! I've got a new developer's diary out with a new teaser video. This one features a new batch of characters: Metalhead, Rex-1, Muckman, Usagi Yojimbo, Groundchuck, Dirtbag, General Traag, Lieutenant Granitor, and the rank-and-file rock soldiers!
Robots, Rock Soldiers, and Radical Mutants
Here's the video:
I've been out a few days. Checking on the numerous giants to work with for Krang, Gren's Giant Man has both ground bashing animations and foot stomping ones. I'll be trying to work with that.
 More awesomeness!!!
I obviously didn't watch enough TMNT over the years. :D
These characters are amazing, even if I don't know who half of them are. (I do remember Usagi Yojimbo though.)
Amazing work Benton and Dean!
Cross posted a bit from Dean's skin thread.
Thanks, guys! Haha, yeah, WF, we're getting into more obscure characters now, for sure. A lot of these guys only appeared in one or two episodes of the old cartoon, if at all. If you read the classic Archie series, you might recognize some of them from there. If not, they're probably pretty odd!
I'm going to wrap up my TMNT characters pretty soon and start on another setting that folks will probably be pretty familiar with!
Quick questions for anyone interested in this project. Given its literally cartoony subject matter and fairly cartoony aesthetic, would folks rather have the vanilla trails after arrows and the like or more realistically just have the projectiles themselves?
Id go with the trails as its more cartoony and fits better i think.
Quote from: deanjo2000 on June 24, 2024, 10:19:39 AMId go with the trails as its more cartoony and fits better i think.
I agree.
Same
Thanks guys, trails have it!
Alright folks, here's this week's Developer's Diary:
Mutants, Aliens, and The Foot (https://bentongrey.wordpress.com/2024/06/28/sma-developers-diary-4-mutants-aliens-and-the-foot/)
And here's a video of the new characters in action, on my new Technodrome invasion map!
It looks very cute on you, I don't know the powers of the mutantman, in your version he seems quite powerful
Always a good read
Thanks, guys!
Yeah, Cranlox, I've probably got him too powerful. But, he makes for a really interesting character in the game. I've been toying with ideas ot make him a bit weaker and more challenging to use. I'm tempted to give him the attribute that would make him take progressive damage when he was out of energy, as Mutagen Man is dependent on a steady flow of mutagen to survive, but I'd have to cut his Lesser Regeneration.
Hey folks, looking for some feedback: I made some custom "Turtle Mine" FX for the Party Wagon to deploy, using the Koopa shells that SA made. What do y'all think? Too Mario? Too cutesy? Cool?

yes definitely very mario. I make some turtle-themed mines or grenades if you want and I'll send you to see if you want to choose any.
Awesome, thanks, Cranlox! That would be great!
here's a quick little tmnt disk

a simple grenade tmnt classic

These are great, Canlox! I think the disk one will work well for the mine. Can you give me a version about twice as big that doesn't spin?
Ok, I'll send it to you today.
Thanks, man!
fx rally turtles!

I DIDN'T PUT SOUNDS
Excellent! It looks great, man! I can take care of the sound. I've already got a sound clip for the Transformers one.
the disk you ordered

Thanks, man! They work great!
Howdy folks! This week's developer's diary is going to be a bit different. So far, I've really been showing off the depth of the mod, doing deep dives with a wide range of characters for one setting, but I've been wanting to show off the breadth of the mod as well. To that end, I've spent the last week and change working on designing and building a selection of main characters from each setting. I've put in a ton of work on these guys, not just in the usual design and testing, but also in a lot of custom FX, hunting down sound clips from the shows, and more.
I put in extra work to polish and prepare these characters because I wanted to put together a teaser for the mod to show off something of a proof of concept, and I just finished it. I'm going to try out the premier function on Youtube, so I'm releasing the video tomorrow at 2:00 Eastern, if anyone wants to drop by my Youtube channel and give it a watch with me. This may not amount to anything, but I thought it might be fun to try.
https://youtu.be/JRvl5UTY-nQ?si=gyy-XqC73aV5BbHO
I'll be working on the developer's diary itself tomorrow, and I will hopefully have it posted in time to coincide with the video's release. Cheers!
Well, that took a whole lot longer than I expected! The new developer's diary is finally finished, and it provides an overview of each of the newly added shows, as well as background on the characters and the usual overview of the design process.
Developer's Diary #5 (https://bentongrey.wordpress.com/2024/07/12/sma-developers-diary-5-main-character-madness/)
Very ambitious!
Make sure you identify Destro by name, as opposed to the C.Commander typo!
Really good read. It's rejuvenated my love for these shows.
Winters, thanks! Yep, it's a pretty ambitious project. I'm sure I won't finish everything I have planned this summer, but I'm hoping I can get all the characters designed and implemented, as well as at least a few of the campaigns.
Thanks, Dean! I'm really glad to hear that!
Quote from: deanjo2000 on July 12, 2024, 07:26:35 PMReally good read. It's rejuvenated my love for these shows.
For me as well. Started watching Thundercats again last night. I plan to revisit He-Man as well. Although I was a little late to the TMNT party, I do remember their early cartoons, and have them on the list as well.
I forgot that Silverhawks was only one season long. I don't think I ever saw the later shows, but I remember that theme song! I'll be getting those again too.
Thanks for this trip down memory lane Benton!
WF, that's really awesome! I'm delighted that my little project is helping folks (re)discover some of these classic shows! Definitely check out the 2002 He-Man. The old one has nostalgia, but the newer one is an improvement in a lot of ways. As for Silverhawks, it is only one season, but it is the crazy 65 episode season, so it FEELS like a longer-lived show in a lot of ways, though it didn't have the time to really develop.
Howdy folks, as proof that I've had a bit of time for some modding, I've got a new teaser video to show off what I've been working on! Meet He-Man and the Masters of the Universe!
https://youtu.be/rbYhoTqDWvs
I will hopefully have time to put my developer's diary together tomorrow, so stay tuned!
Looks so good  I do like watching these videos.
Almost like watching the cartoons again.
Quote from: deanjo2000 on January 20, 2025, 06:23:06 PMI do like watching these videos.
Me too!
Thanks guys! I really appreciate it!
Dean, I'm annoyed at myself. I forgot to copy the new Man-E skin over to the mod folder, so he was still running around in thigh-highs when I made the video. I've fixed that now, though, and he has proper pants. :D
wardrobe malfunction in FF!
I like watching He-man and his companions in action. I'm currently watching the She-ra cartoon and I'm liking it even more than the He-man one.
Howdy folks, I finally found the time to write up my latest developer's diary, covering the He-Man characters I've been working on. Hope y'all find this interesting!

Good stuff as always, Benton!
Rest in peace, John Erwin :(
Thanks guys!
Right, Spyder. I forgot to include a note to that effect with my post, as I started on it before I heard the news.
Farewell to the man who brought He-Man to life.
