Beyonder has created a bunch of really cool meshes with different hair types for the game.

Many can be found here: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Beyondermeshes2/files/

Now the problem I have is that I can't use any of these meshes for :ffvstr:

Converting won't work, the mesh simply refuses to load.

When I open up the character.nif file in Nifskope, I get an error stating "next block does not start with a NiString". "Failed to load nif from C:/... "

I'm not sure what this means, but I was wondering if anyone else did, or had a way to fix these meshes so we can get them in :ffvstr:

Any ideas?

I have one, but I don't know how helpful it is... If you open the mesh in nifskope even though is comes up with an error, it loads everything up to a certain point, including the biped and everything attached to it, such as many of the hair meshes.

Edit: Did some more fiddling, turns out the issue has to do with a piece in there that's a Editable Patch rather then Editable Mesh or Poly. It's nothing major enough that removing it would bother anyone, but it would have to be done via a hex editor and I don't know how to do that.

Please keep the rest of us posted. Those are some pretty cool meshes.

sup LP i was looking at a few of those meshes today and found it has a few invalid childs in the seen root, 7 of them .. starting at the bottom go up 7 remove those and it will convert just fine ..
i tried it on male_basic_hair_friar.zip and it converts fine ;)

But what did you use to do that? Like LP, I've never been able to load one of them into Nifscope correctly.

Okay, I've come up with a fix for this problem .  The Meshes don't need to be converted they need to be repaired.  I'll just explain the basic steps now, and try to give a more detailed explanation later.

As Tomato said the problem seems to be the editble patch.  I started by using a hex editor to remove the GA_hat NiNode.  Then I opened the mesh in NifSkope.  The invalid child links shouldn't be removed as Johnny Patches suggested.  Instead the tree structure of the mesh needs to be rebuilt.  Once that is done the mesh can be opened up in character tool V2 and I assume it will work for   :ffvstr: .  If anyone wants to try it out, here is a link to the mesh I've done:

Okay.. so I was messing with this a little while ago and figured something out.

The male_basic mesh piece wasn't on the available meshes in Beyonder's group.. at least it wasn't recognized. However, all the hair pieces WERE recognized.

What I did was open up the nif tree and through some copying and pasting of some nodes, I've been able to replicate all the meshes. I was able to recreate:

male_basic_hair_wolverine
_quicksilver
_bangs
_normal
_balding/friar
_flattop
_reseed

They all work for :ffvstr:.. converted and all.

The only one I wasn't able to replicate was male_basic_hair_redux, but hey.. at least I got those done!

Now I'm not going to just release these without permission, so I'll speak to Beyonder and ask him if he'd like to do something with it.

That is the only one that actually does work for me!   I hope these are releasable as I had to move some skins around when I went to FFV3R because I couldnt convert them.

Ditto.

I hope they can be released, since I've wanted to use a couple for some obscure characters.

So, I have a question..

Does anyone know how I can contact the Beyonder?

Ok, I got the go ahead from Beyonder and I'll be hosting these in my Yahoo group, only because that's the only place I have access to upload.

All appropriate credit will go to Beyonder.

I'll post info in the Releases forum when I get them up later today.

 :agentclap

I think that applause is due to LP, The Beyonder, JP, Tomato, and anyone else who looked into converting these.

Xenolith

I've always liked these meshes, so thanks for handling it, guys.
