I just installed Freedom Force on the new computer and it seems to lock up during mission play - I've already installed the patch as I'm running on Windows XP but cannot seem to figure out why this keeps freezing up.

It will freeze - mouse will not move - cannot switch off screen - only way to get out of it is shutting down the computer and re-booting.

Any ideas?

It's tough to tell what's going wrong here. If I play FF on my Windows XP machine, it plays well for a while and then starts getting a little flaky (weird little pauses during cut-scene especially) and I know it's time to save and restart the game.

Part of the difficulty during these freezes is that Windows doesn't always reset the graphics when you quickly Alt-Tab away from the game. I find that I need to continue holding the Alt key down for several seconds or it won't switch back to Windows. Or, rather, it will switch back to Windows, but the FF screen is still showing. Another option is Ctrl-Alt-Del and then hit the T key to get to the task manager. From there, you should at least be able to kill FF without restarting the machine.

Do you have FFX installed? It may be worth posting your log files after one of these crashes (ff.log, script.log, and ff.err) in case they give some clue.

Installed FFX like recommended and have not had the problem since - will keep you posted if it does happen again but thanx for the tip - seems to have done the trick at the moment  ;)
