I am having an issue with  :ffvstr: not starting.  I click on the icon and my screen blacks out like it is getting ready to start it stays that way for few second then returns to my desktop with out starting the game or giving me an error message anyone have idea how to fix this?
At the end of the day all that matter is that I tried, right?

stumpy

The first thing is to reboot. Once in a great while, some part of the system gets tweaked and a restart can fix it. I know that happens to me with the original FF from time to time, although there it is related to the init render alert.

Check the last modified dates and times of your ff.log, ff.err, and script.log files. If any of them were changed when you tried to start the game, post them, or note if they were empty.

Also, what version of Windows are you running and are you running the game under any compatibility modes, etc?

FF.err was Empty.

I restarted and nothing.

Look at the end of the FF Log you posted: it says "error" and seems to reference... files or something else? Do you have custom content installed for the game? If so, it might come from it. Otherwise, I'm out of ideas :|

stumpy

From your ff.log, it looks like it is trying to load the attributes for an FFX-enabled mod (like FFX3), but it is stopping before it loads all of it. Those bitset enum errors are supposed to be there for such mods, but there should be many more of them. It's possible that the game is trying to load a DAT file (like ffx3/attributes.dat) but is crashing partway through.

If you try loading that mod again, does it always crash at the same place? That is, do you get a new ff.log (new time stamp on the file) that ends at the same point? That would seem like a strong indicator that the DAT file is bad and re-installation of the mod may be in order. Of course, it's still possible that something else is crashing in the middle of loading a good DAT...

Just to be sure, are you trying to run a mod? What happens when you trying running the base game? Keep in mind that you may not have ff.log or the other log files (or they won't be changed) for the base game, but the base game uses different DATs, so it may indicate a bad DAT file if the base game loads but this mod doesn't. Also, you can check running a different mod to see what happens there.
