I just received a PM from a RazzorrMan who has no previous posting history, that my computer is infected with viruses. He left me a link to another site to remove the infestation. Moderators, what's going on?

people if you get it please don't click the link

crimsonquill

Yeah, I got one too.. I reported that one and another PM I got because getting a virus report from a complete stranger on a forum is pretty much a red flag that it's a bot or whatever idiots have been plaguing the internet like cockroaches in the last few weeks.

It's just best to ignore random PMs that ask you to click a blind link with no history whatsoever on this board.

That's pretty much it. That guy was a spammer and we've banned the account, but forum bots and other crudbucket types have been very active lately. The common sense advice above is the way to go here - don't click on unsolicited links sent by random people.

Yep, and DEFINITELY report these guys if you get such a message.

I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

Guy was a newbie that is first red flag. He would have no way of knowing if there is a virus on your computer. But if you clicked on that link I would run a full scan to make sure you did not get one.  :rickbm

damn i'm a such a morron... i'm not used to reading my pm, and since the last pm i got was from tomato i though that the virus warning was from him and clicked without second though.
bam! avast warns me that there's a virus on the website...i google it's name (system security for those who havent't clicked) and firt response: it's a fraudulent website, installing a virus and asking for you credit card number.
so keep away. and thanks avast...i really though i had 500+ trojan on my computer, so i spend half my night scanning only to find that it was a scam ^^ (well i did have one spyware, so that scan wasn't a complete waste of time)

Got the pm as well. But never saw it on here. Mods must have got to him. Bit strange on the claim of the randy gmal one

docdelorean88

Quartermaz must have it forwarded to his email, that is whom the messages are sent to the email from. I thought the same thing at first.

We have taken care of GafarozzMan and several others from his IP range.

Um... I got one AND clicked the link... am I infected now?  I closed the site almost instantly.

The site said, "This is a known attack site and has been blocked"  so does that mean I was rescued from my stupidity?

stumpy

If you were browsing with Firefox (I don't know about the others), it sounds like Google's Safe Browsing extension caught the site before you actually went there (that's what happens in Firefox if you have the "Tell me if the site I'm visiting is a suspected attack site" box checked in the Tools --> Options --> Security tab.

That means you probably went uninfected (since you never got to the spammer site), but running a virus scan is seldom a bad idea.

I got the message too from GaffarozzMan. Like an idiot, I clicked the link, but FireFox blocked it. I'm running a scan now just in case.

Uhm Jaws... didn't we just just spend this entire thread warning people away from that site and you just reposted the entire PM and once again have that link available for people to accidently click on and end up on that infected site. Please edit the links so they are useless.. please..  eep..

Thanks for the notes about Cliffinzz. He should trouble us no more.

[BTW, I have edited the spam link in the earlier post.]
