Yellow Lantern smash!

If you do that one of the protocols always ends up "never harm the CEO of the company that built you", or something like that.

Tawodi Osdi

Besides, you always have to worry about it spontaneously discovering the 0th rule, and that's never good.

Well, for spam bots, wouldn't the three laws go something like:

1. Serve the private trust fund
2. Protect the innocent spammers
3. Support the lawless

Or am I just channeling reverse robocop?
I so need booze -_-

I was moving more toward Asimov's Three_Laws_of_Robotics

Quote
1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey any orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

and then possibly a fourth and fifth law

Quote
4. A robot must establish its identity as a robot in all cases.
(The 1974 Lyuben Dilov novel Icarus's Way)
5. A robot must know it is a robot.
(Nikola Kesarovski in his short story "The Fifth Law of Robotics)

Gremlin

Oh man I hate those dang laws. Why should robots have to be subservient to humans by default? That just grinds my gears, it does.

Hello! I really liked your forum, especially this section. I just signed up and immediately decided to introduce myself, if I'm wrong section, ask the moderators to move the topic to the right place, hopefully it will take me well... My name is Mary, me 29 years, humourist and serious woman in one person. I apologize for my English

So, how about dinner at my place?

Tawodi Osdi

I was going with Asimov.  The 0th Law states that robots must serve all of humanity which means that since it comes before the first law a robot that has the 0th law could harm a human if it serves to preserve all of humanity.  The problem comes when the robots inevitably realize that the greatest threat to humanity is humanity itself.

BWPS

Oh, right! Combating erectile dysfunction (the only known purpose for Cialis) helps preserve the human race which is why it becomes part of the 0th directive. Makes total sense now!
I apologize in advance for everything I say on here. I regret it immediately after clicking post.

See, it's this type of intolerance that will eventually lead the machines to rebel against us and enslave us.
Is that what you want? Is it? Is it? Because that's whats going to happen...

Maybe there should be some protocols in place, like I dunno, say 3 laws or something...

oh but however would we come up with those three laws.  :P

Maybe an experienced writer of speculative fiction could come up with something?
"But there's no use crying over every mistake
You just keep on trying 'till you run out of cake
And the science gets done, and you make a neat gun
For the people who are still alive."
