Problem with meshes

I noticed that the meshes that I downloaded mess up a lot when I put them into the game (The Third Reich). Sometimes they work fine, but most of the time, the characters' bodies turn pink. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

The skin textures are in TGA or DDS format? If they are in TGA you just have to convert them to DDS.

Rick Jones

That must be it. I checked and they were in TGA format. But how do you convert them to DDS?

John Jr.

There are a lot of free DDS converters on the net. And you can just get some plug ins to Photoshop.

Before you do that (and you will need a program that will convert graphic file formats for it) you need to know that sometimes it is a memory problem. Does it show up in the standard skin only? When you have a pink standard, do you check the others, then check the standard again? Is it still pink? If you only have one skin for that mesh, create a new folder under Skins and name it something like take2 or standard2 or something, and see what it's like to switch between the two in CTool.

You can also get a pink skin sometimes if there is something funky with the glow or reflection textures. Since I do my own skins, I can create a black glow or reflection file to check that out, but some can't.

Usually Ffv3R has no problem with TGAs. But only usually.

The skins seemed to have been the problem. I got it fixed now, thanks.

If you don't mind me asking, which fix worked for you? If you converted the tga files to dds, what program did you use?
For anyone, and everyone, who has ever done anything to improve the FF/FFvs3R gaming experience, I want to say thank you. Life is so short, and you have all brought me so much joy. I hope that one day, I am somehow able to return the kindness and generosity that all of you have shown.

And sometimes, it's just a simple matter of the glow or reflection file just not being included in the skin. Of course, the solution is still the same one mentioned by daglob. If you don't have access to a graphics program, you could copy a reflection or glow tga from another skin. It will most likely result in having effects where you don't want them, but it's more to check if a missing file was the problem (the pink should disappear).

Rick Jones

I fixed the problem by adding another skin, and titling it Standard2.

Cool, the majority of my issues are with standard skins, so this is good to know.
