Lost Action RPG

Long ago in a computer system far away I came across a game that I've often remembered fondly and wished I could track down.  Well, the community has never failed me in these types of quests, so I put a new question to our collective genius, does anyone remember this game:

It was an RPG of sorts, but focused more on action, thus my description in the thread title.  In it you played as a human character in a fantasy world.  The character you started off controlling was an "Adventurer," who could repair and control machines left behind by a previous civilization.  That was his niche.  I remember very clearly that he wore a double-breasted jacket, either green or blue, that looked somewhat like this: http://www.menstylepower.com/wp-content/flagallery/leather-jackets/leather-j-double-breasted-jacket-by-gucci-3060.jpg
Later you picked up an Archer as your second character, who, of course, used a bow and was good at ranged combat.  If I remember correctly, your main UI would show you the character's skills and progress, and you could select different powers and abilities as they gained experience.  I'm pretty vague on a lot of details, but I am POSITIVE that the Adventurer and Archer were two of the character classes.

Does anyone have any idea what this is?

You do realize that SNES games have been around longer than ROMs right?  Sheesh, now you're making me feel old, and that isn't right, 'cause I'm only in my 30s.
I am the cat that walks by himself, all ways are alike to me.

Haha, I'm certain it was a PC game.  It was 2D, but the graphics were, if I am recalling correctly, better than, say, the Baldur's Gate series.

I know you are not refering to Arcanum but hey, that is a fantasy game with repairing and building contraptions!

BentonGrey

Nope, not Arcanum, that's one I'll NEVER forget!  That's one of the most awesome games of all time. :D

Haha, yeah, I remember when the SNES came out, but he said computer, so I assumed PC. But the SNES has a ton of action RPGs and it sounds familiar.

Oh this sounds familiar...like I might have already played it but I can't remember which on it was...played way too many PC Rpgs over my years to really remember.

Is there anything else you can give use to help id this game?  Something like, the combat system setup or maybe a small gist on the story or such...might help out a bit....but unsure....heh...

Well, what I've mentioned are the things that stick with me most closely.  I remember that you started out with the Adventuerer, and I THINK the combat was something vaguely like the classic D&D games, clicking on enemies and occasionally selecting powers.  You had a UI that took up the bottom part of the screen, and I seem to remember that most of it was filled up with information about whichever character you had selected.  I remember that the first mission had you crossing some relatively open territory, and after you recruited the Archer (I THINK you rescue him from a fight with some of the villains, who might have been orc-y), you entered a building, some type of ancient structure.  You transferred between areas by clicking on doors or other transition areas.  When you went into that building, you had to use the Adventurer to repair a machine to open a door.  That's about all I can remember.

I think it's Hexplore. Is it Hexplore Benton? BENTON, IS IT HEXPLORE?!

I'll be honest, things like this drive me nuts and I frantically Google every possible thing even when I have zero stake in the answer and I realize this is weird but honestly that seems insignificant next to me finding out a thing someone didn't know that I don't particularly care about.

Haha, well, bless your frantic Googling, BWPS.  I think it might just be Hexplore.  What's funny is that it looks like it in some respects, but it seems unfamiliar in others.  I thought it was a more 2D, locked camera, Baldur's Gate isometric kind of thing.  Yet, that Archer looks EXACTLY like what I remember, at least his portrait does.  The Adventurer looks sort of close.  I don't really remember the gameplay being quite like that, but I'm wondering if my memory has just embellished what I saw over the years.
