Yep, some friends from college went and made one which just went for sale for the Kindle.  It's cute, well written and only cost a buck, so if you have small kids, or have friends who do, check it out.

If they make a version that is Nook compatible, I would by it just to support your friends.

Luckily, one does not need a Kindle device to purchase and read Kindle books.  Amazon offers a free Kindle reader desktop application that will automatically add all Kindle books you purchase to the programme's library.  I've used it before to purchase Kindle editions of otherwise hard-to-find/pricey books (like the limited-printing Van der Graaf Generator biography ).

Thanks for the notice, cat, and congratulations to your mates.  I think my son will enjoy the book.

For this book, I would definitely not recommend reading it off a regular Kindle, since you'll lose the charming full color illustrations.  Straight off the PC as ow_tiobe suggested, or with a color tablet such as the Kindle Fire would be best.  Kindle aps are available for non Kindle tablets.

Thanks, Tiobe!  I do have a Windows machine now, besides my Linux machine.  I just don't have it hooked to the net yet, because I have installed virus protection or a firewall which I was planning to today after my next payday (Friday).  It's only my very second paycheck, or I would have already bitten the bullet and bought the software.

I use the AVG free addition, a free antivirus acclaimed by multiple experts.  Windows XP and up has its own integrated firewall, but there is also Zonealarm, a free one that's generally pretty good.

Bought it.  Read it with my son this afternoon.  It has received the Jude Seal of Approval:thumbup:

'Tis  a cute book with very nice illustrations.  I would definitely agree that it's a book that should be read in full colour.  Good luck with your software setup, T.O.

Well... if we are gonna blatantly promote a kids book that someone we know wrote...

Might I suggest  "Darwen Arkwright and the Peregrine Pact"    by A.J. Hartley?  It has a kindle version too.  Hartley was the Shakespeare professor I took the class of back in the ol' West Georgia days.  He now teaches at some college in North Carolina.  Interestingly enough, he and I still converse periodically as well.  Often via Twitter and occasionally at DragonCon.

I recommend tea and maybe a biscuit while reading.

Rhodora! if the sages ask thee why
This charm is wasted on the earth and sky,
Tell them, dear, that if eyes were made for seeing,
Then Beauty is its own excuse for being.
