Hi FF folks,

I don't recall if this was discussed or asked before (I'm drawing a blank on this and my searches haven't yielded anything useful), but is there a way to tell where parts of a mesh are attached?  Like how to tell where the collar on a mesh is attached (the neck, head, etc...)?

I guess it depends on the mesh. Tommyboy's TV meshes have the pieces attached at the scene root (I think), but if you look at Gren's, his are attached further in. If you check out some of Gren's meshes in Nifskope, you may be able to find what you need.

Tom's mesh parts have to be connected to bips, or else they'd fly all over the place when the mesh moves, right?  I just wondered if there was a way to see what the separate parts of a mesh are connected to on the skeleton.  I will take a look at one of Gren's meshes too, thank you, Cyber.

If anybody can assist, please chime in.

I totally understand your question and wish I had a good answer for you. Hopefully someone more knowlegeable will chime in, cuz I'd like to know as well.

I can tell you what I have to do is guess basically. Let's say im cutting and pasting a crown from one model to another, and I want to make sure I attach it to the same node on the new model. I usually try to guess what it "might" be attached to, like the head. Then I look at the head, and click on "children" Usually the crown will be a "child" of the head, and I know where to attach the pasted version. I just keep clicking on every node "above" the crown with children til I find it....real elegant.

But I know what you are asking, is there a way to look"up" the chain from the child to the parent when you cant find the parent, and I haven't figured that out yet....

Yeah...I can't even remember what the mesh was that I was trying to Skope now...LOL.

in response to your orignial question Dana,   with the details open you can look at the NifSkinInstance for individual pieces. That will tell you which nodes the piece is connected to in terms of keyframe movement.
