Is it possible to create a Vanilla Mod for  :ffvstr:?

Essentially, I want to set up a Mod that is basically FFvt3R right out of the box, no EZFX, no FFX, just totally Vanilla. The sole purpose of this would be to isolate the FX that I am making so that they are easier to find and edit. I really don't want to get rid of everything else I already have installed, which is why I'm thinking a simple Vanilla Mod might serve my purposes.

Is this doable? If so, would anyone have suggestions on how to set something like this up?

And if possible, the same would apply to  :ff: as well.

I guess you could do that by making a new sub-folder and place the vanilla .dat files inside the folder.

Cool, thanks Spyder. I know nothing about Modding, so I wasn't sure if this was feasible or not.

I never tried it myself, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Obviously, you won't need any of the script files that come from FFX to run the mod.

Heck, you could probably just make an empty folder, name it whatever you like, and then dump the vanilla .dat files into the mod folder much in the same way as you would any other mod folder.

Of course, you'll need a shortcut linked directly to the mod to run it.

Cyber Burn

Cool, I'll give that a shot.

Not sure if this helps, but I sometimes just zip up the clean DATS into a backup zip, which I just unzip when I want to go back to "Vanilla"

Well, I was experimenting with this a bit last night. I re-named my "Freedom Force" folder to "Freedom Force Updated", and then re-installed Freedom Force from scratch from the disk. So now I have a "Vanilla" game to experiment with for the FX that I'm making, and I still have my regular game with everything installed. The process took some messing with to get it to work, but so far, it seems to be working alright.

For whatever reason, FFvt3R would not let me re-name the main folder though. So I will be trying to create my first Mod to give me a Vanilla game. If I just place the original Dat files into a new folder, along with a Shortcut to get the game to run, would I need anything else to get the game (Mostly the Rumble Room) to run? Since this is for the purpose of FX creation, I'm assuming I would need my "Art" file in there as well?

Thanks for being patient with me on this guys, I definitely appreciate the help.

You might just be able to copy the "Data" folder and rename it to something else and then use that as your mod folder.

For example, go to your base-game directory and find the "Data" folder.  Copy the "Data" folder and paste the copy inside your base-game directory.  Once you do that, you should have a new folder called "Data - Copy" or something similar.  Rename it to whatever you'd like the folder to be named and make a shortcut to that folder like you would any other mod.

Thanks Spyder, I'll give that a try tonight.

Well, after a really bad day, which left me with very little patience, I ended up un-installing/deleting everything, and started over from scratch. So now I have a "Vanilla" game for FFvt3R.

Not sure if this is possible or not, but can I have two FFEdits open at the same time, with each pointing to separate FX DAT Files? My goal is to have one Editor open to the FX tab for the basic FFvt3R game, and one open to the FX tab for one of the Mods for FFvt3R.

Basically, I want to see how I have my FX set up in the Mod File, so I can set them up the same way in the base game File.

I don't necessarily want to merge DAT Files though, because I just want the information for the FX that I made.

Yes, you can, but you have to be careful when switching tabs as sometimes the second FFEdit will switch to the folder that the first FFEdit is pointing to and it won't warn you.

Very cool, thanks Spyder.
