When creating a mod with  :ffvstr: edit, When opening the mission.dat file: error appdata\local\temp cannot open or load mission.dat.  Is this a permissions issue?

That's one I haven't seen before.  So, what you're talking about is opening the "Mission" tab in FFEdit?  And you get that error message?  What's stored in that directory should be Herofiles and the like, so that's weird.  I'd double check your datapaths for FFEdit, but checking your permissions is also a reasonable step.

When creating a new mod within mymod\missions\mission001 it auto generates the mission.dat and mission.py file.  So when trying to edit in-game from ffedit, as it is loading it will error out with cannot access or open mission.dat.  That file is now in both mod and appdata\local\temp.  Very odd.  I checked permissions and compatibility.  I can use leveledit within charactertool2.  So I am not sure yet.  Will keep at it.  Might try Win 7.

EDIT:  Issue has been resolved for both  :ff: and  :ffvstr: FFedit and leveleditor.  Permissions and compatibility both needed to be changed.  I used win xp sp3 and both .exe files set to run as admin.  Creating the mod in ffvt3r needed .dat files and extracted level.ff.  Now both games can create mission from scratch.

Ahh, I see.  I never create things from scratch, as I'm always copying something existing to work from as I'm lazy.  I'm glad you sorted it out!
