Getting sent to the title screen

Hi
I recently started playing through FF1 and I'm currently on the missions against shadow, almost at the end in fact.  However, on the 2nd last mission where you have to pull the 2 ropes to open the door to shadow's lair, it takes me to the mission complete screen as normal.  Then when I click OK to get to the next mission it just sends me straight to the title screen!  No error message, or crash to windows or anything.
I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, playing using the recent patches, without the patches, defeating all the enemies, rushing past them.  I don't have a clue what could have went wrong, according to the mission debrief I've done everything asked of me.  Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?  :(

I don't remember that as being a common problem with that mission. It might be helpful to post your script.log from right when that happens. (See the Game FAQ for more info on that.)

Thanks for the help so far!
If I understand correctly I think this is what you suggest I post:

>>> system\tredir.py executed
>>> E:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force\data\temp\mission.py executed
Approached the door
cshelper: Cutscene [open the doors together] submitted for playing
cshelper: Now playing cutscene [open the doors together]
Step 1 of 2
speakInternal
Step 2 of 2
cshelper: Cutscene [open the doors together] has ended
>>> Pullswitch2('_impobj_bellpull2', 'hero_4')
Switch 2 is pulled
>>> Pullswitch1('_impobj_bellpull1', 'the_ant')
Switch 1 is pulled
Door should be opening
cshelper: Cutscene [win] submitted for playing
cshelper: Now playing cutscene [win]
Step 1 of 3
speakInternal
Step 2 of 3
Step 3 of 3
cshelper: Cutscene [win] has ended
Hurrah, well done!

Doh!
Doesn't matter anymore.  I saved my games to another folder and uninstalled everything related to the game, then added the saves again.  Unfortunately for me I must have deleted something I needed since those save files aren't enough to load up a previous game.
Looks like I'll just have to start again from the beginning  :doh:

BTW. Are you the same stumpy of the 4ft fight club from city of hero's (EU).

I don't notice anything odd in the script.log. I wonder what the script.log, ff.log, and ff.err contain right when you are sent back to the main menu?

Sorry you lost your saves, but you can have fun replaying the campaign up to that point, especially if you up the difficulty a notch or two.  ;)

That must be a different stumpy on COH, since I have never played.

Thanks.
Shouldn't take me too long to get back to where I was, fingers crossed nothing odd happens once I get to the missions against shadow.
Think I might save some logs for comparison in case something does go wrong later.
