I have tried to get the game to run but it will not start.  I rarely get an error message and when I do it says it could not verify my disk in time.  I try to start the game from the disk in the drive but nothing works there either.  I can see the .exe in the process tab of the task manager for several seconds then it vanishes.  I had the game start twice out of 30+ times of trying to get it to run.  When it starts I have no problems at all playing.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled but same problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, welcome to the community.
Assuming that your CD is actually clean and unscratched (worth checking for if you havent already), and that your CD drive is fully functional (ie plays other games OK and so on), I can think of a couple of things which might help.
The most obvious is a "no-cd crack" executable. This is a version of the game that has been altered to not check for the CD. I use these a lot because I'm too lazy to swap CDs in and out. Some people frown on them as they are also used in piracy, and the people who have made the cracked versions have violated the EULA by editing the programme. For me they are a convenience when using games I've paid for, nothing more.
A quick google search will yield results, but please, back up the original executable, and make sure you have good antivirus software, as getting a cracked exe can lead to virus country.

If that doesnt appeal, there are some tools that slow down modern cd drives, which sometimes spin too fast for games to verify properly.
Again, google is your friend here.
I hope that may have helped a little.

Thank you for the suggestion.  I found one and it did indeed fix my problem.
