Old Radeon with only 32MB of memory, possibly shared? Looks indeed like an obvious suspect. Mind you, I initially had an older 32MB nVidia card and could see alpha correctly in FF1, but that game's Radeon support was flakey, IIRC.

It's kind of a dice roll with FF and alphas.
Some videocards work, some dont. Some drivers work, some dont.
If it wont work, you can try other videocard drivers, but that's about all I know of.

Thanks guys I'll check my video card out.

That doesn't seem right. Maybe it just takes major surgery or something (like opening the case), but surely you can change video cards.

Not exactly... Style's likely got a laptop with a graphics card that is integrated into the motherboard. I had the same sort of setup with my previous laptop... which caused me all kinds of grief.

Now, technically speaking you could probably replace the graphics card by replacing the mother board, but at the price it'd probably be better to get a new laptop.

Funny thing is fellas  :ffvstr: on my laptop the alphas work fine!    :banghead:

Well, yes, it would.
As has been said every time this has come up before, FFV3R has no problems with alphas on any machine(as far as I know), only FF does.
It's because they are different game engines (FF being netimmerse and FFv3R being gamebryo, essentially a later iteration of netimmerse).

A recent discussion with Commander Koenig reminded me that the "values" of gray (I don't know what else to call it... opacity of fill? what percent transparent it is?) in an alpha channel behave differently between the two games. Stuff that is semi-transparent in FF1 is often either solid or just plain gone in FFv3R. There is a narrower "band" of semi-transparency in FFv3R, and it messes up stuff when transferred from one game to the other.

Hmm.  I'm actually curious about this with respect to the 'Credits' tab.  I noticed the names in the credits that scroll is just a file with the names in white on a gray background.  When I attempt to make my own file with white words and a gray background and replace it, the gray is no longer transparent.

Is my gray just not matching exactly?  Is there any fairly easy way to accomplish this?

Are you using an alpha layer?
If not, thats your problem.
